I have a confession to make

There's something I have to tell you all:

Charles Stiles is my hero. Long live the illustrious overlord of Mystery Diners! I wish I could grow a mustache just like his.

All hail the glorious Charles Stiles! I'm currently lobbying to get his face printed on our currency. I'm building a bronze statue of him in my front yard. When completed, it will be forty feet tall and portray him smiling benevolently down upon a grateful world filled with blissful people enjoying exquisite cuisine delivered by dedicated, enthusiastic servers.

I watched that show once and thought it was the worst piece of garbage I ever saw. I could not make it through the first 20 minutes.

That show did not depict anything like what the world of mystery shopping is really like.

I just did a search and in 3 seconds I found an article about the show Mystery Diners being fake...Called Mystery Diner Fraud. tongue sticking out smiley

I dislike that show for how it misrepresents what mystery shopping is or how it works.
Heretics. Great men are often unappreciated in their own time. History will be kind to the effulgent Charles Stiles.

I remember strongly, the loud mouth jerk on the show. Is that him? tongue sticking out smiley
No, Charles Stiles is a mousey kinda guy. I'm not sure how he ended up with his own show. There is some Jon guy that yells a lot are bar owners so maybe that is who you are thinking of.
I love the show Mystery Diners. While it is not like my experience as a mystery shopper, I really like the reveal when they call in the bad guys and the look on their faces! I caught one the other night when they had some food truck changing names from afternoon and evening and running a side business with the owners truck! I gotta admire their cojones for trying, but when caught and saying "no, no, we're doing it all for you boss!" was just too classic. When you dance to the music, you gotta pay the fiddler.

Hey Sunny, I really don't have too big a dog in this fight, and don't really care if the show is fake or not. I still like it. But that has got to be the cheesiest website link I have ever seen.

The show is called "Mystery DINERS", not "Mystery Shoppers. They bring in Charles and Co. when they already know there is a problem and need to find/fix it.

The loud-mouthed guy is probably Willie Degel (from Queens - does that explain a lot !?!), owner of Uncle Jack's Steakhouse and host of Restaurant Stakeout.

Both of these shows feature reataurants only and only those where there is already a known issue needing to be fixed. No client is going to routinely allow an MSC to rewire the entire place once a month for a mystery shop.

You can like it or not whether you are a mystery shopper or not - it has nothing to do with our profession. Unless they get enough poor shop reports . . . ?
I actually think it's a pretty good show. I do find the scenarios totally believable. Of course there's editing after the fact, as with any TV show, but a lot of the things they catch people doing have got to be real (or based on true events at the very least).

I agree with Paul that the "expose" website is laughable. There's no evidence other than that they KNOW for a FACT that it's FAKE!!!!!

My evil plan is working perfectly. I have sown the seeds of discord within this forum. Soon, a schism will erupt, and there shall be war between the true disciples of Charles Stiles, and those unworthy, contemptible foes who slander his name...

There is a disclaimer at the end of each episode which states (not verbatim) 'Part of the show have been reenacted for dramatic purposes'.
Disclaimer was added after they were busted in 2013. If you Google 'Mystery Diners Fake', an article shows up from Radar Online.

I remember watch a singular episode of South Beach Towing (think that's the title), the camera kept zooming in on some sorority girls feet, then 'magically' she fell off a porch onto a vehicle. Oh, and she was 'magically' just fine after that.

Scare Tactics is another one that was so badly faked, you (ME!) could actually SEE visible cords and microphones worn by the victims of each episode.

I'm pretty sure that Restaurant Stakeout, with Willie Deagal (sp?) has no such disclaimer at the end of its episodes.
Well! look at it this way what we do is try to keep the place off of a show like that. We help nip it in he bud so to speak.
