Using 8 msc's instead of 20!!

I am now down to using 8 of my many msc's registered with. I seem to go with those that have no $$ problems (that I know of), and have schedulers I can relate too....just not taking chance's anymore. Funny thing, they pay more, so can do less, and happier about not killing myself

I also find myself working for fewer and doing fewer shops. Instead of the volume of lower-paying shops, I am doing the higher-paying and passing the low ones by. Of course if I see a fun cheapo, I can always take it.......
AustinMom...agree 100%, but it took a long time to pass on those lowball's, guess we got smart!!!

I don't think you mean that those who take low paying shops are not smart!

If I only took the higher paying shops, I'd shop much less, and earn much less. There aren't enough high paying shops with, let's say, fees of $20 and up, that I can get. When I do get them, I may do them as stand alones, or build a route around the higher paying shop and flesh it out with lower paying.

That's what I've been doing. I've only been doing this a short while, but I've learned a lot reading this forum. So thank you to all that participate.

I'm no so fortunate to be THAT picky. But I try to do the higher paying jobs and then do some lower paying ones around it to justify the day.

I find that as I do more I am getting better at it and can do it a bit faster. That makes it more pallatable.
No, I didn't mean that at all. I take whatever is in my immediate area and 10.00+, my point was, I don't drive for miles to do 2 low paying shops, by the time you figure gas, wear and tear on my car, etc., it's not worth it. Unforunately, I'm unable to do the quantity you guys do, so, I had to limit myself...I find many 25.00 shops, which make it all come out o.k., without the stress.

It seems there are three kinds of MSP's: old, steady, reliable ones; old, crummy, low paying, unreliable ones; and new, untried, and dangerous ones.
After the years have rolled by I find myself doing 80-90% of my work for the old, steady, etc. ones. All the rest go into a separate folder marked "Others." I have three specific company folders (Certified, Service Intelligence, and Shop 'n Chek). I like them specifically because they are self assign, pay promptly and correctly, and mistakes are few.
The "others" category is for very large shops that I don't do often (high end restaurants, really slow pay, and new guys that I don't trust yet). I just got pay from one for $110. I've only been stiffed on a couple of jobs (totaling less than $100) over the years, so it has been a good experience to do MSing for a little extra income. And I mean little!
As for low payment shops, I tend to take them when there are a lot of them so I can batch them together and make one run that adds up to something worthwhile. The real problem now is that so many have cut back there aren't enough shops to add up!
I did my first few jobs from BestMark at the beginning of March and I just got my check from them two days ago. I've done quite a few jobs besides BestMark and I haven't seen the money yet, but it's still early.

I can't believe that BestMark has paid me already and it's not even the end of March. Reading the forum it seems like sometimes it's hard to get your money.sad smiley

I hope I don't get too many of those.
I also have "Old Reliables" that I can count on for calling me with bonuses shops. After six years mystery shopping I have finally decided to add a few merchandising gigs that pay very well for the work involved. Also have a gig doing "house-sitting' on the weekends.I only do one FF chain, Five Guys, one of which is located on base and gives a great bonus. I was gaining unhealthy weight when I first started out doing those Mc D's, now I can't stand their food. All in all if the shop takes to much time, I'll bypass.
This year for me has been the best first quarter ever in this biz.
Yay for you, HB. That is really good. :-)

Exactly what I meant. With a fulltime job, I don't have a lot of time. Initially, I took a lot of lower-paying jobs for the experience - and the money, too - but I have gotten much more discriminating and consider not only time to do the shop, but driving time and cost, and report time.

Understood. A full-time job and moonlighting to boot! During the months when I work fulltime, I'm also more selective.
I find I have a stable set of 8 companies that I complete shops for every month; then I have a rotating set that have few shops here and the ones they do have have year long rotations, so I do about 1 shop per quarter for 8-10 companies. Then I have ones that for whatever reasons, I don't do much for. That's another set of about 20 companies. It might be that they have little here except a random shop, or that they don't pay enough so I only shop for them when they call and bonus me, or the shops that they have hold little interest for me. The rest on my list I either have no offers from or have decided not to work for.

There is always the "sleeper" company that you never hear from, then, they need a job done in my area, yes, I'll do it. Last night I did my regular healthy FF burger job (two restaurants in all of L.A)., and both of them in my town. I do them over and over, enjoy them, and they pay $13.00 + a 9.00 reimbursement, and I love the company, just straight up!!!! I'm actually working for them in finding new restaurant's in my area, as they are from back east....never any nonsense with them, pay in a month. That's what I'm talking about.

Absolutely I don't mean people who take cheap-o shops are not smart. I take them .... sometimes for the product, or because I'm going to be nearby, or even just for the fun of it. I support anybody taking any shops they want to take....I certainly do. I shop for the money and the fun of it .... if I stop making money or it stops being fun, I'll stop shopping.
We're on the same page......once it stops being fun, I'm done!! AustinMom Wrote:
