I am going camping this weekend with some friends Saturday 7/3 and Sunday 7/4. I am so ready!
Not quite a vacation, but I am going to my mother's house while she is on vacation to "steal" an oak desk that is stored in my childhood bedroom. Her husband is OCD and has the room stacked with boxes from floor to ceiling. He has the only key to the lock. This desk was made for me by my father and goes with the bedroom set my father also made me. My children use the set now and I want the dang desk!!!!! I have been asking for two years. Her husband can't handle people touching his things, I get that - but his things are in my old room on my old desk made for me by my dad that I am giving to my boys. Whew I am ranting today.

Funny thing is, two years ago my mom and her husband had the house remodeled. Every room but the one with the desk. That door was locked tight. Guess who my mom had re-model the house. My dad, her ex. The only contractor she trusts. He just found out that my ma and her husband are on vacation till mid July and they haven't handed over the desk yet. He called to tell me he has a key to the front door (so do I) and he will get it for me. This could get crazy. I just have to put everything back very neatly... I am losing it.
Now that I done ranting and have had a somewhat decent nights sleep I can say that my mom took my kids to Disneyland for a week. We bought a huge pool for the backyard and will spend a lot of time there this summer. Last summer we took the kids to San Francisco for three days and they fell in love with it. We will go again this summer. Also on our list is a day trip to Old Sacramento and the train museum. Mostly just spending time together and getting ready for the next school year.
fiteybitry, good luck getting the desk.
Just heard a fun story today, family goes "camping" every Saturday night in their backyard- free vacation all summer. Kids will get an adventure. Yes work on the parents part but sure a free vacation.

How did it go, fitebitey?
I am still waiting for the stinking desk. My dad flaked out (big suprise) and when I brought it up in front of my mom and step-manster (lol) he decided to get the flu and didn't come out of his bedroom for four days. I swear I am going to break in.

Mert, can you tell I am still a little frantic over the matter?
Sorry. I imagined you going in on tippie toes, wearing white gloves. I was hoping you had retrieved it before going off to Hollywoodsmiling smiley

Just going to Oakland - not Hollywood, but I did get my kids room all set up (sans desk) with a big empty spot where it is supposed to be. My mom is coming over tomorrow so she will get to "see my vision" for the room.
Planning to go back East Sept. 10th to see my "friend", staying at Oceanfront in Jersey...they have a private beach and, stopover in Chicago to see my daughter, she'll meet me at the airport (I have a 4 hr. stopover). Hope she brings her boyfriend as I've never met him. CVan't wait...best part, no msing.

What's a vacation? I haven't been on one since 2006. :-(

Dee, your life is a vacation, living in Hawaii.

Live consciously....
You'd be surprised how little of Paradise I get to enjoy on a regular basis. Too much time spent earning money to live here.

My idea of a vacation is eating out with no reports to do.....I know going somewhere for a week, and living there are two different animals. I hear Hawaii is very expensive, enjoy the view!!

dee, you have to remember you combine the earning with the enjoying.

Enjoy your steak dinner in paradise :^)
Some days are like that. :-) Others not so much. I can't wait till Sunday night for great steak!
