When Youngest Son still lived at home we went through a lot more than we do now. I still buy the large quantity, though, because I can get better stuff (basmati instead of conventional) for a better price

Rice is useful. Some people take the 2 - 5 pound bags, nuke them, and place them on sore backs or other places. The bags are large enough to stay put (and not wander) and they hold heat. This was done for me. I have not done this for myself/by myself.
Anyway, after work and the grocery store (not a shop), I am at home and doing some of the endless little jobs around the house.

Getting the plugs changed on our 2003 Crown Vic, with about 211,000 miles on it!! I noticed it had been idling just a bit rough lately. Went through my old invoices of services done that I keep in the glove compartment.....the LAST plugs changeout was 75,000 miles ago!!! Can you believe that??? I'm sure my car will be a bit happier now!!
Dad's having a surgery mid October for knee caps. Apparently, there is a gap that's causing a lot of ache. My sister has a big house and a lot of domestic help at home. She lives closer to the hospital in the city. Mom and Dad didn't want to bother her but she booked their tickets and they would be staying with her till his knees heel. My nephews are so happy to have grandma and grandpa for a couple of weeks though they want them to stay there for a month at least. Wish I could have lived closer to them.
Besides reports: laundry, folding and storing laundry, kitchen clean-up, . It is 96 F outside, with very high humidity and code orange air quality. I am happy to just be inside, in cool, filtered air today. But by Friday were are promised the start of at least 10 days of REAL autumn weather, with overnight lows as low as 45 F. Everyone except the DC baseball team will be glad when the nights are that cool.

We are a little ahead of you, walesmaven. We began work today when it was 36 F. That is my idea of perfect! When we go out again for errands, it will be in the 50. This is within my perfect range.... aaahhhhh...

Fall is here and I love it...a cool 74ish, my kind of weather. Eye Allergies always better after summer when pollens get washed away with a bit of rain, and we had rain......tired, taking a nap then deciding about dinner, it will be light.

I am going to prepare my small front yard for spring. Right now, it's all weeds. I'm researching everything I need to do to prepare the soil.

Books! My bookcases are finished, and all I have to do is fill them. This is my kind of a wonderful day! Since errant and previously homeless books comprised 70% of my clutter issue, putting the books where they belong will make an immediate and significant impact. I also have to make sure that my October merch schedule works. At worst, I add an extra day or two. At best, all goes well, traffic is always reasonable, and I can do just one more location per day on half of the days. (As if!) In the middle of all that is a much needed mani-pedi.

Don't nuke them in the plastic bag or you will have a plastic melty mess in your microwave, LOL!!!! I used to make rice bags in colorful, soft cotton-stitched bags and put essential oils on them, then gently heat them to use on my clients during massage therapy sessions back when I was still a practicing therapist. Gauge the heat so you don't burn yourself. Additional caution: do not use heat on inflamed or injured areas, as this can cause more harm then good. Sure, the heat feels good on a sore back right after you hurt it, but heat actually draws more fluids to the area and makes the inflammation worse. Ice works better as it "chases" the fluids out of the sore area. As the inflammation subsides and the swelling goes down, the pressure on the nerves also subsides, alleviating the pain (and ice helps to numb the area). But be careful not to go too long with the ice, either. After 72 hours, contrast of ice to heat works well since it will flush the tissues, which aids in healing faster. Do not prolong the heat or the ice as this can damage the tissues and nerves in the area.

A long-overdue pedicure! Grocery and wine stores. Careful planning of the next 7 days of shops and travel preparation so that I can fly to Seattle to begin my long haul Amtrak adventure/vacation. I will have 2 nights and one full day in Seattle and plan to eat as much fresh seafood as possible while there. Most of the day and one night will have me, literally, next door to Pike Place Market (courtesy of Marriott Rewards points, thank you!) That will provide great food, interesting walks, and a chance to stock up on wine for the trip. (Note to self: don't forget to pack the !@#$ cork screw!)

Well, I just hope not to get snowbound on the train in the Rocky Mountains. That seems to have happened along this route for a day last week, lol. I will take some snacks, since trains do not carry more food than they are likely to need for the planned number of meals. Learned that the hard way a couple of years ago. That trip was 10 hours late when the rails were blocked by a disabled large vehicle. Fortunately we were in a place where the conductor could have enough fried chick meals delivered to feed passengers and crew and impromptu picnic! Not many KFC outlets in high mountain passes the last time I looks, lol.

My grandma used to compost eggshells and coffee grounds in her back garden area. She was also a big fan of chicken manure.
I just got home from route which was about half as long as I expected since one of the MSCs didn't approve the shops in time. I can do them tomorrow, they are the closest ones LOL. Now it's coffee, a home made brownie, and reports.

Just got home. Now starting dishes, laundry, planning for Sunday's spiritual gathering since I am in charge of snacks. I'm thinking hummus with pita chips and carrot sticks, and grapes. Any feedback for me? One of the attendees is allergic to tomatoes and eggs so that cuts down a lot on what I can take.
K-Cup grounds, egg shells, and veggie scraps are going in the soil. I live near an equestrian center and will get poop from them. My honeysuckle is going to be the bomb!

Flu shot. More laundry; test packing for my coming fly/rail vacation. Charging up some travel electronics: Nook, speed charger, maybe the tablet. Paying bills. Filing travel plan with bank/credit cards. Playing my new favorite game: a missing object game abut London locations. I have to set a timer so that I do not end up losing track of time and thinking I have played for 30 minutes when it has really been 3 hours. Cleaning up backing up my main computer.
