What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Some books are rich with possibility. They contain so much condensed information, or at least hints of where to look for more information, that they are small libraries.One to a binding, please!

Anyway, this morning was a rare treat. Early job was early. We returned home long before the deadline. I could become accustomed to this. !

I'm finishing up grading for spring semester!

Then it's preparing content for a Facebook page I manage for a non-profit I work for.

Tomorrow is back to shopping with the start of an overnight gas station/car wash loop.

Are they fiction, non-fiction, or reference books? My hubby held on to his college textbooks for a lonnnng time, despite me pointing out multiple times over the years that the information was either outdated or could easily be found on the internet. And then all of a sudden one day he came in and announced he was ready to let go of those books.

I like old textbooks and old teaching materials. They begin to answer my long-standing question, "What the #@#$@%^& are they teaching!?" It has been fun to find specific publication dates that represent when changed ideas and philosophies would have reached education environments. "Aha! So that is when someone, somewhere, began to have tacit or mandated permission to shun thus-and-such and promote something else. Educators and/or administrators had to choose, approve, and/or create the materials. Looking at a larger context, is it reasonable to suppose that various events over time have their onsets in the backgrounds of these text changes?" But this is one wee aspect of history, and some people do not want to study history after they finish what is required in school.

LOL. Come here and get them if you're into Sports (especially golf and skiing), meditation, YOGA, sports medicine, judo, jud-jitsu, philosophy, the human body, knives, etc. just to give you an idea.

Very, very few fiction unless it's a classic or something he has assigned his students. Lots of reference books. I get rid of my books as soon as possible. I don't like reading on a kindle for some reason. I guess it's not the same. I have a shared library at my job; that's where all of my books go. He's got a two volume hard cover medical reference book that is so outdated, it's laughable. He does not go on the internet unless forced to. Uuuughhh. Neanderthal. I read mostly fiction and non-fiction now.

What a waste of space. We have re-located this dang bookcase 3x already and he just cannot let go. He loves books, kept buying them for me until I told him to STOP! He refuses to use a Kindle, laptop or tablet to read. He cannot let go. I told him to sleep with them at night, LOL!

Madetoshop, I agree with the waste of space, but I understand your husband. I love books. I read all my books on my phone or tablet now, but I have a whole bookshelf of books I read years ago. I know it's a waste to keep them, but I can't seem to let them go. They're like old friends.

I suck at cooking rice. I made rice on the stove top last night. I burned the rice, onions and pot in under 20 minutes.

Instead of another defense of actual books whose paper pages are easier on the eyes than screens and inserting a nod to Cicero who noted that a room without books is like a body without a soul, I need to remember Mom and Dad and say something that will make a positive contribution to the community.

Get a small, inexpensive rice cooker. follow the directions. It will turn itself off, but keep the rice warm for hours after it is done. Saves pots!. Also, a rice cooker is a multi-function item plus you can add seasonings to the rice that you cook which is how I make great yellow rice.

Books are ridiculously easy to list on eBay. I'd pull a few and list them. If he has as many as you say, he won't miss them. You could always list the ones he bought for you.

@HonnyBrown, I agree with @walesmaven. So glad I have a rice cooker.
Start it before the rest of the meal prep and it's done and keeps ready to serve while I do everything else.

Today, I am going to Get Things Done. Clean car first, maybe.

Zoom meeting, with mutual fund guy. Zoom meeting for book club. So, must read book.

Schools are online in Alberta for 2 weeks, so no excuse.

I went over to my sisters for Mothers Day. It was a lovely BBQ with many loved ones. I have an offer on my house. I will be finally getting my back surgery when Medicare starts in August. Things are finally falling into place. I am one happy woman.

So today was mostly free and completely fun. During our little road trip we had fog, rain, sleet, snow, cold, critters, three counties, and assorted signs of springtime everywhere.

wales, I didn't have any luck with my rice cooker either. The rice would cook unevenly: burned on the bottom and crunchy on top. After several variations of this, I gave up.

The point of the Eddie Murphy movie was simply that his character needed to do one thing-- just one thing-- in order to inspire or persuade his young daughter to give up her blankie and her imaginary friends. What is Madetoshop willing to do in order to inspire or persuade her hubby to give up something she does not want him to have?

So today is all about catching up on news, laundry, and projects. If there is any free time, I am taking it for me! I need a nap and a workout.

This banker who wears extremely THICK glasses, loves to read....all the time. He takes his lunch and reads in the large bank vault....now this is the late 50s/early 60s....newspaper headline reads: A-bomb could go off at any time...guess what??? It does.....but because he was in the bank vault downstairs, he is the only one alive....he is devastated at first, even though there is enough canned food to last him. I don't want a rice cooker cluttering up my counter so even though I have one, it stays inside a cabinet. I make rice by putting it in a bowl and adding some liquid in it and then put it in my steamer. Set my timer to about 25 minutes, depending on what kind of rice and how much I am cooking. I put a lid over the bowl and it always turns out great. No burnt bottom to clean, just one bowl and the plate only got wet. You can check it to be sure it is cooked, if not, then steam some more. After the rice is cooked, I usually turn off the stove and let it sit in the steamer for about 20 minutes and then take it out. Easy peasy.

My small Hamilton Beech rice cooker lives in a cabinet and comes out only when I make rice. It works like a charm, with no issues and the working parts all clean up in the dishwasher. Easy peasy.

My rice cooker always results in burnt rice on the bottom and the dishwasher is insufficient. Always have to scrub by hand.. Have tried varying the amount of liquid and I just can't get it to work, but the steaming method always works for me. Everyone has a different method. LOL

Hopefully cleaning and organizing. In a slump in that department.
