What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Finished the scheduled ten minutes and did thirty more in a other room. Extremely pleased with the results! Will finish the quick read soon and then play eany meany with pants that have not fit me since 2019. Which ones for Monday? Tuesday? Etc. (Silly but necessary non-caloric celebration.)

@HonnyBrown: Thank goodness Sweet Pepper is safe at home. Can she sneak out-- perhaps as a stowaway on an axle-- when you drive in/out of the garage? We had a cat that liked to ride the axles. A real character. Feline version of riding the rails?

After work Hubby and I took some compostable items to Youngest Son's pile, then walked to get coffee. A decision to go a different way back to the car meant that it turned into a long walk.

A local chain of gas stations offers 60 cent drinks when the MLB Cardinals score 6 or more runs. In the past week that's happened five times! Once again Hubby and I took advantage of the promo, but went to a different location. A walk was also involved :-)

Plenty of opportunity to see greened-up town and enjoy sunshine.

Errands. Legs. Get rid of stuff. Soon: pick up Rx for legs and take a much-needed nap.

Perfect evening and end to perfect day. Worked extensively on contents of four bookcases, worked out, did extra stretches, and finished a book. Now it is time to chill while cool fresh air wafts in and my fave versions of the various Ave Maria's play. Starting with Chanticleer and the Biebl Ave Maria and moving on to the others... aaaaaaahhhhh... smiling smiley

She is a little escape artist. That's the best I can figure out. I had a cat once that rode the axle to a park where I went hiking. When I got back from my hike, he was digging a hole next to my car. I had to wrangle the cat to get him in the car.

We're having our new dishwasher delivered today. Hubby is quarterbacking the installation (which is wonderful, as I was in charge of all such for the last 35 years).

Watched 'Granddaddy Day Care' and contemplated moving to the patio for the duration of this welcome, cool weather. Started a new-to-me book series: White House Chef Mysteries. The book I am reading includes recipes from several White House luncheons. The recipes seem do-able for home cooks.

Got my Substitute Teacher's License on Tuesday and applied to several nearby districts. I hope teaching would be a great experience as I have always loved it. I also like the flexibility of hours and locations. I already have offers from a few schools. Went to Social Security Office to update citizenship info. Took most of the morning.

Last night Hubby got an email from Spectrum (our internet provider) that the system would be down from 11 pm until 8 am, which meant I couldn't read the newspaper online with breakfast or take care of emails. Based on their track record I wasn't surprised that the internet was spotty until closer till noon.

Started pricing the White House recipes... unless someone catches me a brace of pheasant and butchers the birds just because they can, I will not be able to afford the pheasant that is stuffed with rice mixture and served on sauteed spinach. Hmmph. It is otherwise within my skills zone. Then there is steamed lemon pudding that calls for Patent Flour. ? This required a foray into detailed baking lessons. I get it. Patent Flour for spongy dessert but not for bagels. But I might not be able to afford to get the Patent Flour. Alas. OTOH, Cornish hens might be an alternative fowl, and lemon bars with dustings of powdered sugar might be an alternative dessert. Hmm. I am making myself hungry. Think I will switch to the grammar review book. Nothing mouth-watering in that! grinning smiley

When I had Comcast, my internet was down more often than not. I used my cell as a hot spot.

I woke up after a full night's rest and went to work in my home office at 730. After about 4 hours, I realized it was night and not day. Insomnia at it again!

@HonnyBrown - Done that a few times. Such a weird feeling. But, I use military time, now. No more being fooled.
Hubby and I got home about 30 minutes ago from taking our 15 year old (on June 25) fur-baby to have his teeth cleaned, ears cleaned and nails clipped. Now...there is NO way on this green earth that anyone could do this without anesthetizing him, so down he went!! He's prone to yeast buildup in his ears, and his right ear has an extremely narrow ear canal, so that one is always the worst. What a bunch of gunk they got out! I brought along some Miconazole cream and had the vet dr rub some in each ear, down deep inside. My fur-baby lets me put some in the top part of the ear maybe twice a week, but putting some deep down ought to help with the yeast buildup as well. Now he's home, sleeping off the anesthesia!
I was wide awake at some ungodly hour. A possum strolled into my house. I had the patio door open for Pepper. She's fired. When I woke up this morning, the possum ate Pepper's food, drank her water, and pooped on the floor. Pepper isn't going back outside (again).

So glad to be out for the summer. Kindergarten really took a toll on me this year. Today was our first day being out. I took time enjoying taking it slow. I did get together my To Do List for the summer. Yeah. Enjoy a nice dog walk. Or two. I did my first mystery shop in over two weeks.
@Honny, your precious Pepper doesn't seem interested in being a "guard cat", does she! But your stories about her antics are always interesting! Thanks for sharing them!
Pepper is only interested in being adorable. She is good at that!

Major kitchen clean-up; cooking and freezing items for future meals. Watering newly planted flowers in front garden and in pots on deck. Quick trip to pick up Rx, groceries and wine, later.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Living room looks like a thrift store. Hubby has gout and can't walk enough to help me take this stuff to the car. I decided to sort everything I could and get it ready to go. Sooner or later, it will.be outta' here.
In this process, I found my cook ahead & freeze book and my cooking-once-a-month book. These, and Graham Kerr who teaches to make enough to freeze enjoy now and freeze some for later, inspired me to do what walesmaven does. Have not organized life and people around the once per month concept, but it is generally a goal. How few hunting and gathering efforts can I get away with, and how soon can I get an extra freezer or three to hold my food?

Lovely, relaxing garden party at my Auntie"s home today. Beautiful weather and day. Mom made these cannoli cupcakes that were scrumptious. My Aunt made this Tiramasu cake that should make her eligible for CAKE BOSS.
Soooo Scary!!! I have possums that stroll through my backyard at night even though there is a fence! One time I did not know one was out there and I let one of my dogs out. Luckily, she not much into confrontation! She just barked a bit and came back in. Scary!

How did you get the possum out? Did it leave by itself?

Interesting day, historically: Amnesty International, Pentecost, and Spanish Armada (among others). Have been watching old episodes of 'What's My Line?' and wishing for technicolor. The panelists' dresses must be as gorgeous in color as they are in design. Sad about panelist and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. What really happened?

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all who observe! smiling smiley

I'm hoping that because Pepper's food is untouched, the possum found his way out.

I woke up with the intention of cleaning out the fridge. I did a deep clean of the kitchen and put together the new touchless trash can. The old trash can had worms in it. The fridge is still icky.

I have a bunch of boxes, unopened, in the garage. One of them has the batteries needed for the new trash can. All I can say: good luck with that.

The little cat is grey tiger striped with a white underbelly. She found a muddy puddle to crawl in.

I am afraid of 'possums, but have been told they are not aggressive or mean. Raccoons are. But 'possums look scary. I have had many of both in my yard, but since I have "acquired" many more dogs they no longer come into the yard. But, once a mother 'possum was moving her babies out of my yard and one fell when she was on the fence. I heard lots of commotion from my dogs, but my one lab, Morticia, picked up the baby and took it to the side porch to keep it safe. UGH! I was proud of her, but super scared of it. I had my son put on some steel-lined leather gloves and place it in a 5 gallon bucket. We took it to a lady nearby that does rescue work for them, squirrels and other animals. She reached into the bucket with bare hands and lifted it out like it was a puppy. She put it into an incubator with a heating pad and had other animals in other like enclosures. I asked why she handled it like that and she said they were not mean and she also gets the vaccines regularly in case any of the animals bite her. She gets some sort of compensation from the State. I know of people that have them share cat food with their cats on their decks. My cats are indoor and would be scared of them. But, if one got into my home, I would die of fright!

More 'What's My Line?' and more fabulous vintage dresses. Some are more spectacular than others, of course, and those are the ones that fascinate me. Have my eye on two gigs. Finally! I might be able to do a little paid work soon. This would be the first jobs in... nine or ten months? Hoping... smiling smiley

Just puttered around doing small odds and ends. Cooked up burgers (inside, since our grill isn't working), baked french fries and fresh corn on the cob. For dessert, we'll have Lemon Lush, which I made on Saturday.
