The nearest Goodwill warehouse is hours away. I do not know when I will get back there, but my first visit was a kick!

Early job is early. Later there will be more work, delving into a library book/new-to-me author, and searching for a missing shoe. I needed it yesterday but found found only one of a pair. These shoes have slight heels and make it easy for me to reach the top shelves in the library. I hope the shoe is having fun wherever it is..

(So the latest silly deal was: if hubby gave her $100 on Monday, later that evening two boxes containing a total of $30,000 in cash would be delivered to him. The driver was to be an off-duty delivery driver who could be hired by private parties-- or something. Courier, messenger, and other recognizable terms were not mentioned. Then the story was that it was too late in the day and the money would be delivered the following day (Tuesday). The next change? The first driver tried to steal the money and the second driver called the police; the police had the money. I did not ask when the second driver entered the scene and whether they came via stage left or stage right. Instead, I gently suggested that hubby could call the police to find out if they were in possession of any parcels that were addressed to him. I added that this was a reasonable way to verify her story. Hubby felt that it was okay to verify her story with her. According to hubby, she promised to call the police and instruct the police to call him. If you are still awake at this point in the tale, and if you guessed that no cop has called hubby, you win. Kudos!)

Oh dear. I could not deal with all that @Shop-et-al
Somehow you have to take control of his accounts.

Once again, I am hoping no one calls me to sub, unless it is for 1/2 a day. Garden and house need me.

I get my second jab today.

@prince:

Good luck with the second jab! I hope you have absolutely no side effects from it.

I was hoping that he would never need to have someone else control his accounts for the purpose of preventing others from robbing him. He does have a right to distribute his funds as he chooses. He is unable to stop there. He is compelled to create a situation in which he indirectly controls the distribution of my funds. His inability to understand boundaries renders him unable to see how what he does impacts on other people. That is the crux of the problem. I did read something encouraging the other day, though. In The Winding Ways Quilt Bonnie's hubby hid money from her. Near the end of the book and after a little help from her friends, lots and pots of money were restored to Bonnie. The overall situation here is not quite the same and I do not anticipate lots and pots of money, but the hubby/relationship deterioration is strikingly similar. Book hubby crudely and freely went to a new wife. As far as I know, we will not need to see him in future books in the long series. This real life hubby will not have such an opportunity. Alas. But I can speak of him less often.

Going to go see if I can get my tires rotated in about an hour. It's a small local tire shop where we buy our tires. So if I don't have to wait too very long to have it done, I may go for my walk after that.
I am more ruthless, @Shop-et-al I guess. I would be getting myself out of the situation somehow. I watched a loved one deteriorate her funds due to her son's gambling. Now that she is gone, I will see him on the street before a penny of mine helps him.
Another friend is in a similar situation with her son.

Hubby and I each have a child with whom we have no contact. Sad, hopefully they will figure things out and eventually have a wonderful life, but they won't send us broke.

@Shop-et-al. Why is he doing this? Is he too trusting/naive/not aware of internet frauds? Has he ever seen this woman in person? Sorry for asking so many questions but this situation just makes me go Wow...
Questions are good. Answers are elusive and more theoretical than solid. I know a few things, but they might not fit here. Way in the background is hubby himself. He and his family members hate many people for real or perceived wrongs, such as having money, status, high functioning, ability, and possibly a few other attributes. I have not figured out who is "allowed" to have attributes and who must be punished ! for it. There seems to be a multi-layered formula that is changeable as per barometer, mood, food, or something ineffable and unrecognizable. He has promised/threatened to leave for several decades. I always tell him to save his money for the divorce costs as well as the costs of starting a new life. He has not saved one cent, as far as I know. Our money is mostly separated. Enforcing 100% distinction is a pita and it is just easier to relax and attempt to collect basic expenses from hubby. When he does not pay in full or timely, I have to make up the difference. Even before the little girlfriend, I have had to make up the difference in many months of many years. I have pushed so hard for so many years to make up the differences that I have to stop doing that now. Most recently, his reason for withholding is this person-- this little girlfriend-- with whom he has been communicating electronically for more than one year. I know little about this person. I believe this is a female and that she may or may not look like the picture that was e-mailed or texted to hubby. I know that she contacts him at any time of night or day to ask for money, whine if money has not been sent immediately, and to provide ever more reasons for needing still more money. As far as I know, they have an electronic relationship with sexual, financial, and other overtones that qualify as aspects of an ongoing relationship. The financial aspects are disturbing. She has some persuasive skills! For several of his accounts, she persuaded him to give her access, even though financial institutions recommended against this behavior. Her efforts involved questioned funds and resulted in frozen and closed accounts.

More of this scam story is in another thread. It is a common scam theme. Delectable* Damsel in distress is denied rich daddy's money. Daddy's will** expressly demands that she be married in order to have access to the alleged millions of dollars and control of vast and alleged property holdings. In order for him to marry her and help her to meet the requirements of the alleged will, he must be free of me. And boy, what a bonanza that would be! He would get a rich heiress and [presumably] unlimited access to untold millions of alleged dollars and use of untold acres of alleged property. He has a vested interest in this get rich quick scheme and no ability to extricate himself from our marriage with a simple divorce. He is not well designed for marriage, and he is less adept at saving small amounts of money, let alone specific amounts for a divorce and a new life. As mentioned earlier, he has been wanting out of the marriage for many years. Before this scam, he just made threats and hoped they would make me conform to whatever nonsense was expedient in that week or month. Usually, the nonsense of now/then had to do with supporting him in as lavish a life as he could extract from my few bucks and threatening to make me shut up about it. He hates being thwarted by simple concepts such as no, not now, later, after we pay for something else, and please tell me again why I am supposed to use my meager funds to support your rich little girlfriend instead of investing a little more money each month. This his made him so angry that he has lashed out in a nasty soap opera fashion. He has gone as far as yelling at the top of his lungs for any and all to hear that I have abused him or accused him. What really happened, as we can learn from punctuating those incidents, is that he has a flair for timing. Anyone tuning in at that moment would assume the worst of me-- and probably would not stop to wonder what preceded his tirades. Fortunately, this trick appears in at least one legal beagle book and is well explained there. There is a precedent for it, by gosh! grinning smiley

Now, he is at full throttle and hurtling toward his goal of nabbing a babe, and money, and land, and cash, and stuff, and freedom, and victory., and the destruction of me! Whee!

*I was shown a picture. He seemed to love how she looks. Delectable would be more of his point of view than mine. I was skeptical and wondered if it came from a wallet or was photo shopped so that he would never see what his actual scammer or scammers look like.
** The will, or portion thereof that was shown to me, was not written in a legal language or format that was familiar to me. All the legal documents I had seen up to that time were generated within the United States and had a certain similar look and feel, or format. The alleged will was typewritten and not hand written and included language that did not seem like that of other legal documents.

What did you do today?...
Oh, I replaced a leaking 4WD front differential seal ($17) and CV joint axle ($56). Took about 3 hrs not including getting tools out, putting tools away, and cleanup. 273K miles and still rolling along. [A repair shop estimate was about $600.] Knowledge = winning. smiling smiley
Better yet, power of attorney.

Power of attorney might be helpful. Before I get to that, I have to catch up on this morning...

... Silly day here. Early job was on track to be on time, and even a little early. That was before the flat tire. But all is well now. The car is at the shop, the final delivery was made exactly three hours late, and I am just going to plunk myself on the porch and read the second library book for awhile.

I closed on my house. I'm still in shock. But very happy! This is a life changer for me. I can slow down a little on mystery shopping and be more selective.
Thanks to all of the grocery shops this week, I am stocked on meat, frozen veggies, paper towels and nuts.

So today the early job was truly early and without mishap. I am thisclose to the end of the second library book in which Abby and her "minimadre" are now having a little adventure in the woods. I had not read from this series in years and years and years. It is good to get back to those puns, wisecracks, and [in this case] multiple identities. These characters would be good in mystery shopping as well as in detecting, haha! Talking of detecting, I need to get back to the 'Silver Earring' game. Holmes and Watson have been on day two of their their five-day script for more than two days. It is time to plod along toward whodunit-- who killed Lavinia's father.

Talking of father... Happy Fathers' Day to all who for whatever reason might need a little encouragement on that sometimes squicky holiday.

Tire light came on and I took the car to Jiffy Lube to get air. It was on again this morning. I took it to the dealership to get a plug. I ended up getting a new tire due to the low tread.

I cleaned my kitchen. It looks showroom new(ish).

Early job was early. Yay!

So now the rest of the day (until nap before work) is for laundry, workout, and celebrating that yesterday's second wonderful salad-- the strawberry walnut one-- is better when served hot the next day than cold on the first day. That was so good that I might make it again soon.

Washing clothes. Later I'll vacuum the pool and add the chemicals.

Going to Walmart later to buy a dual-bluetooth record player. Gonna take it up to son/DIL/grandbabies later this week. I still have a few OLLLLDDDD children's songs LPs that my son used to listen to. My granddaughter is 5 1/2 yrs now, and I'd like to see how she likes the idea of a record player. And the fact that it's dual bluetooth means that if they only have room for it in a closet, they can still run it and have the music come out of a bluetooth speaker somewhere else in the house....oh, which, BTW, I also got for them....a handy 9" portable one. (speaker, that is, not house LOLOL!!)....easy for the grandchild to carry around the house while listening to music. Both she and my 2 year old grandson love music.
Manifest is a very good show.

Wasn't Mikala's ex married to her best friend? That was never developed.
