"Dear God"...

Removing any sitting President does not change how things are done in Washington. Congress makes the laws, Congress passes the laws. The President has veto power which is useless if Congress overrides it. Washington elite live in a bubble. They have no concept of the middle class financial struggles (food, shelter, adequate health care, higher education, etc). Every person elected to Congress for the first time may have the best of intentions to change the system, but most will become just as corrupt as the career politicians who get reelected time and again. There are two driving factors for the Washington elite, power and money. Lobbyists feed on that knowledge and it becomes impossible to stop the cycle. Once a person gives up their principles to achieve that status it is extremely rare to change and give it up. What is the solution? I'm not sure. The closest thing I can come up with is term limits, and until it is implemented - who knows. But it will never come to be because Congress controls the process to make it happen. There are many passionate opinions on this thread. There is no right or wrong opinion. Each one of you have certain valid points. Keep voting. Maybe vote for the new guy. Maybe if we get enough new guys in Congress we might see some real, positive change.

well, for openers, stew on this nugget.

sen. orrin hatch has been 1 of the 2 senators from utah for...42 years (not a typo, 42 friggin' years). re-elected every 6 years by the good folks of utah. you know them, the 66% of the state that is the predominant religion...aka, mormon). 66% of this state belongs to a cult. put mormons in the same bag as the scientologists. beholden to sooooo mannnny special interests: oil companies (salt lake city has air pollution, they refer to it as "inversion", that is far worse than anything i experienced during my college/grad school days in los angeles and good 'ol boy orrin repeatedly votes down any kind of laws that restrict their out put here + is beholden to mlm (multi-level-marketing aka ponzi schemes) companies such as nu skin, doterra, usana health sciences, young living, etc, etc, etc. hatch has voted down a lot of proposals recommended by the fda to have these companies list their ingredients on labels. why you ask...maybe, just maybe he receives yuge $$$ from these entities in the way of campaign contributions. there is no maybe, btw, his federal disclosures show the amount of $$$ he gets and has received from oil companies/refineries and the mlms.

and, while i'm at it, ask the 4-6 blacks that are allowed to live in this (mormons per their founder, joseph smith in the book of mormon, describes "people of black color are the scourage of the earth") state how utah treats them.
if you think women are treated as second-class-citizens in utah (and they are, btw) think about those 4-6.

this coming from a "religion" (i use that term with a large degree of derision) that has been around for about 140-ish years and calls itself "the only one and true religion" and who was the largest contributor to prop. 8 in california to defeat the same-sex marriage ballot proposition a few years back.

inclusive?
generous? (they can afford to be, as an organizaton, cuz members must give 10% of their gross to the "church"
compassionate? um, see above
non-judgemental? per john mcenroe, "you cannot be serious".

i just realized i hit the trifecta: politics + religion + race

and...thanks for all the PMs and the chuckles/smirks, etc. that i got and get from them. i don't betray a confidence so they will remain with me.
I am curious about something. parkcitybrian, what else do you know about religion?

Who said so? Why did they say it?!

the original posting was...

well, god did give us that sign (on 8/21) and nothing has changed so...i kinda/sorta think that encapsulates my knowledge/belief of religion.

full.stop.

edited to correct the date from 9/21 to 8/21 and thx/kudos to lisastl for pointing it out.

In the interest of accuracy and factual reporting, it was 8/21.

According to my calculations, we have been nattering for twelve days since the punchline of the joke. I want a new topic. Can we have a new topic now, please?

Who said so? Why did they say it?!
Well, the best way to solve that would be for you to create one. Why don't you start a new thread on whatever topic you want.
@JASFLALMT wrote:

Because I might dream up something political, or religious, or just generally controversial, and then all heck would break loose in the forum.

I was hoping that someone who is clever could start a new, timely topic.

Who said so? Why did they say it?!
Oh here I was thinking you were clever enough to do just that, and why break a longstanding tradition of forum members being controversial?

Nope. I leave clever for others. Controversial is... well... Once, I tried to give it up for Lent.

Who said so? Why did they say it?!

Mystery Shopping Magazine Article for August 30, 2017:
How to Make $100 in 3 Days with Mystery Shopping

everyone, yep everyone knows it.

good article, btw, from mystery shopping magazine about how to make $100 in 3 days with mystery shopping. seriously, $100 in 3 days? i'd rather stab myself than only make $100 in 3 days.

joke time...

Q: Why did Joseph Smith (founder of the mormon cult) cross the road?

A: To get to the other bride.
you ask and i'm happy to oblige...

A rabbi, a muslim, and Brigham Young (disciple of joseph smith, founder of mormon cult) walk into a bar.

The rabbi says: I've got 4 sons, one more and I have a basketball team.

The muslim says: I've got 8 sons, one more and I have my own baseball squad.

Brigham Young says: I've got 17 wives, one more and I have my own golf course.

interesting factoid...steve young (yep, that one, the ex-qb of the sf 49ers) is brigham young's great, great grandson but then again brigham young had 55 wives (look it up...54 of them after he became a mormon).
Since when do members HAVE to prove a fact, even I know Mormons give 10% of salary to the church....not a secret.

He stated it differently. Something about 10% of the gross check. You mention 10% of the salary. There are a lot of churches who receive donations, and anyone who owns and controls a business knows there is gross business sales, net business sales, gross salary, net salary. And some don't even take a salary. I can Google it to see where he got it from, but I thought he might have the link to how churches define it. (It was probably a lot easier to figure 3000 years ago when most people would just count the number of sheep they got)
Could care less.....

Dear God, will this thread never end?

ok, folks, i stand corrected and i owe a major, yep major, mea culpa.

it wasn't joseph smith who made the infamous racial comment about "people of color being the scourge of the earth".

it was his disciple, brigham young (he having the stamina of seabiscuit, having 55 wives and sired 57 children from 16 of them).

i would like to acknowledge the kind person who called me out for the egregious faux pas however it came via pm and i don't divulge those. and thx for the comments that have come my way via pm and personal email.
I must be on the wrong forum.....what happened to Mystery shopping?

We need Sherlock Holmes to solve that mystery.
