UBER? Anyone else do it?

I will be starting it soon. I see that i must maintain 4.3 stars out of 5 over my first 25 trips to continue... thats a kinda high bar but... hey more $$

anyone else already do it? I have used it for the rides in the past and it seems cool... they require a card on file first so theres a trail...

I was offered candy and bottled water on one ride when I was in Nashville - that might be a good way to get good ratings to start out!
Yes, cold, bottled water would be a really good idea. I have just used it in Vegas, and have been very happy. It does seem like it would be a good fit for Mystery Shoppers....the flexibility at least.
My daughter and i use it when I visit Chicago, has been great for us and so inexpensive compared to driving and paying for parking in that city. I don't do it, not into being a driver, but many use Uber and Lift. Tips are good.

My nephew did it for awhile until some drunk puked in his car, passed out, and he had to call the police to help him get the guy out of his car.

Water and candy doesn't do anything, forget it. I do the airports and event combination mostly and I have a few regulars that I pick up and deliver on my work routes. My average airport ride is 9 minutes. They want chargers for their devices, lots of chargers, that's where you'll spend your initial investment and that's where your tips come from mostly! Buy long chargers and tie them in a knot or they'll steal them. And they want to connect their music to your speakers, have great speakers and expect them to be loud. Attempt to open their door, entrance and exit, that's where your tips come from also. Dress for success, they mostly see your hair, shoulders and right hand and arm; keep the arm covered and your nails clean. Be positive and use your side mirrors, avoid looking into the rear view mirror and avoid having it at an angle where they can see your eyes, be indistinct. Watch a lot of youtube videos, there are 'types' of routes and you'll find what works for you. If they puke, you get $250 to clean it up, having it done professionally cost $100 if you have a company at the ready. Know your town and the great things to do, both touristy and 'where the locals go'. I rented out two apartments, besides mine, in my complex and I combine the airbnb with the Uber service. I have four of the ladies who live in the complex do most of the work for me, they get paid and I get a little piece of the pie after insurance. You'll want insurance on your car for business purposes, Geico charges a one-time fee of $50. Every trip, no matter if I've picked up Fred 500 times I always say, are you rating me because I'm rating you a 5!

Odoban at Wally world. It's toxically strong! It's eucalyptus and overpowers everything. I used it on kitty urine (I foster and one of the males sprayed everywhere before he was neutered).

I would consider blending this in for some additional income during surge hours, but my vehicle's too old for their standards. I know some people who have learned the hustle and blended the side gig well with their full-time careers.

I'm not interested in Uber, but applied today to be a shopper for Shipt (a gig-based grocery shopping and delivery service that's getting ready to open up in my area).

Because of this im not concerned about puking passengers. I have a dark grey interior too.

That link above is to an article talking about the $250 additional fee you can collect.

I might be able to combo if it happens with a carwash and interior shop that gets bonused regularly...

They go quick...

Competition.

The extra long charge cords suggestion is one of the many reasons i have been coming back here for 7+ years

Dearest Shopper Friends, How do you pay taxes on what you earn driving for Uber? Thank you, Signed, Night Owl at 2:15 AM
I take Uber as a passenger and totally agree with the chargers. Nothing worse than not having a charge on your phone when you are out and about. Bottled water would be nice but not a real necessity.
If you earn $600 or more that information will be reported to the irs so you will have to report it as well.

If you keep track of the miles driven you might get a deduction.

Regardless of how much you earn it will have to be reported. If you are operating as a business, you certainly will be able to deduct the miles. Cooldude, you have been MSing for a long time and know all that.

Ride share is actually why I got into this mystery shopping stuff. It's soo saturated in my town and I got tired of staying up all hours on the weekends to make a few bucks in hopes that someone would puke in my vehicle! I was sitting in a parking lot looking for ways to maximize my downtime and found the FA app and then lead to all this craziness.

Best luck to you and hope it is more lucrative in your area. I no longer do it since this whole gig has been better paying and easier on my sleep schedule and life.

Uber chose to leave my city because the city required that they do background checks on Uber drivers and they were not willing to do it. Now the requirement has been lifted, and Uber is back. I've never used Uber, but I have friends who drive for them. I've heard it's particularly lucrative for the Uber drivers who pick up and deliver food.

Night Owl, are you a geocacher? I went through WV a few weeks back and saw another cache with that signature.

MegglesKat
First three days using the app.
12hr 31 min in use
10 trips.
3 cancellations not included (1 was cancelled by the rider so i got $3.75 for that)
Probably 80 miles driven
Probably 5 hours in traffic

Paid
$75.63 from uber
$5 in tips from one very generous college student.

Expenses
$20 in gas

$55 profit. About $9 an hour.

Not including tip in profit. I doubt it will average $0.50 a trip. The 12hours and 31 min is from running the app. A significant portion was spent in bed playing candy crush and reading. smiling smiley

Gonna go start the app again at 5:30. City busses stop running at 6 pm.

All in all pretty pleased. Had some interesting conversations.

I was also looking into Uber and came across mystery shopping job postings. Now Im doing that instead lol. I loaded the Uber app and where I live I never see any drivers near me, so I'm guessing our town doesn't approve. I wouldn't want to be the only one because mine would just be an hour or two here and there.
have some friends that have done it but they decided to quit because of the risk associated with dropped drugs by the riders.

I am. I usually have a kid in tow so we do the level 1s and 2s mostly. And we're cache faeries. Unfortunately, some of the local hooligans routinely rip off anything of value inside.

Speaking of Uber, I just picked up Uber's new credit card!

Bonus is 'meh' ($100 after $500 spent in 3 months), but the most attractive benefits includes:

- 4% cash back in restaurants
- No annual fee
- $50 'Netflix' (or a similar video streaming service) per year after $5,500 spent annually
- Up to $600 secondary cell phone insurance for theft or damage.

about seven weeks in and i must admit i enjoy it... i stayed out the latest i have eve done close to one am so haven taken anyone incredibly drunk yet... had one grouch of a customer but no one belligerant yet counting tips and subtracting for gas it is about 12 an hour... i am out in my car about fifteen hours a week and another ten just puttering around at home running the app... so about twenty five hours between thursday and sunday evening...i am averaging about five percent bonus in tips usually total earnings comes to about an extra hundred a week in cash... i live in a city of about a hundred thousand people...like many other contracting companies they do not take taxes out ... with the tax bracket i am in that means i will be on the hook for about twenty percent of my earnings at the end of the year

they have an instant pay ability which is really handy to keep driving ...it takes about five minutes to post to my bank and costs fifty cents per use... they do direct deposits every tuesday so its weekly if you do not use the instant pay feature

you can also set the app to a set destination. Meaning that all the rides you will see during that time will be going toward that destination... i cannot comment on how accurate it is but it is available

i did turn down a guy that wanted me to take him from Erie PA home town to Chicago ... i turned him down because the last week my check engine light turned on and i no longer have my triple a premium membership anymore

they do provide insurance without charge... there is a one million dollar contractor insurance policy and a normal drivers insurance as well ... according to a friend this is only when you have a passenger in the car with you but i also know that ther is a huge amount of required converages that vary from state to state... i also know that when i applied for coverage for the car i have now i found out some companies will decline to insure you if you tell them you are doing this... my friend gets around this with his business insurance policy..
