More fires in Northern California

As of last night, there are still at least 16 fires in Northern California have burned more than 100,000 acres and destroyed at least 1,500 homes and businesses. I hope everyone is safe.

Yes, fires near the wine country, and we have a huge monster one close to Disneyland in Anaheim Hills, has been on the news all day and night with only 5% under control. Year of disasters.....

The fires affected the wineries. I'm upset about that.

Yes Napa Valley, my family is upset we used to go yearly and it is so beautiful up there in Sonoma County.
Still burning, what a mess.

We own a home there, where my daughter lives (it's still standing.) She's safe, but evacuated since 4AM Monday morning with her two cats. It's much, much worse than the news reports. New areas evacuated in the last couple hours as it is moving back down toward Santa Rosa in Sonoma county. Still over 150 people missing & hoping that number goes to zero, with no more deaths.
Wishes your daughter is fine....I know area well, had been going since a child. I don't ever remember Sonoma having a fire....

I live in Sonoma County, and Iamme is right. It's much worse than the news reports. Santa Rosa was hit hard by the wildfires. The death toll is expected to rise. We are on standby here where I live, and may have to evacuate at any given moment. My heart hurts for the folks in my area who have already been affected. Many of them only had enough time to leave with the clothes on their backs.

There were reports that Sutter hospital in Santa Rosa had burned down. One of the golf clubs and several homes along Silverado Trail in Napa had burned down. Many areas in Napa are without power. The Walmart in Napa was reported to be burnt down. Schools in Napa are closed. One neighborhood, Green Valley in Fairfield had to be evacuated as a precaution. Hwy 29 to Hwy 121 to Sonoma has been closed. I live in Fairfield so I hear local updates. Hwy 29 to Yountville had been closed.
I'm watching the news another smaller winery burned down (Paradise winery) and the large ones have smoke damage....I didn't hear anything about the hospital burning down.....will try and reach my friend who lives in Mill Valley, not in danger but she knows many in Sonoma and her son works for a winery.

Sutter is not burned. Evacuated along with Kaiser. Lots of equipment most likely ruined due to smoke and sprinklers.

@Hazel Eyes ~ take care and be safe.
I am here in Sonoma County too, Rohnert Park just south of Santa Rosa. So far, we are ok. We got messages to evacuate, then they were lifted and now we are just in waiting mode. I keep getting voicemails from MF to do shops in the affected area and its upsetting, I guess maybe they don't know about the fires. Also disturbing is locations on the job board in Santa Rosa that have the "hot shop" fire icon next to it...yikes.

You must be near the Casino in Rohnert park....how are the wineries.

The wineries seem mostly fine so far, I have only heard confirmation that one (Paradise Ridge) has burned down. Obviously, many more are at risk and the situation changes by the hour. I have lots of friends and family members in the industry posting updates on their wineries and they have been ready to harvest the grapes quickly should the winds start to move in their direction. But, of course, its lives that matter most. As of now there are 500+ missing people and at least 11 confirmed dead in my county.

Edit to add most recent update to damaged wineries: Gundlach Bundschu Winery lost some of their vineyard, Signorello Estate Winery lost many of their buildings, and our neighboring county, Napa, isn't releasing the names of which wineries are damaged there yet

I flew out of San Francisco yesterday, and noticed a significant haze in the sky.

The fire is still growing, sadly. Calistoga is another new hot spot. Way too many of the responders have also lost homes or are displaced but they are still out there working.
lamme, thank you for the update. I will still keep your daughter, her fur babies, and all those affected in my prayers.

I saw on the news that about 900 people were reported missing. About half have been found but they are still looking for around 450 missing persons.
There's a lot of responder assistance pouring in now, so that's just wonderful. More sad news of deaths, and a whole lot of missing pets/animals but also some great heroic news as well. My daughter is here now and is going through some guilt since our place is standing. Baby steps.

This map on this site shows the absolute devastation.

My town received a threat of fire, as the wind will be high (so they say) today.....throwing some stuff in the car, just in case, but it looks peaceful so far. They are pre-pre-preparing, just in case which is a good thing.

Irene - be safe! I'm heading to Santa Rosa to get my daughter back into her place.
Godd luck...looks like we're fine the wind didn't come as expected.

Just returned from Santa Rosa. All I can say is, wow. Fire was actually about a quarter mile - two blocks - from our place where my daughter is living. Found a half burnt photo and way too many large chunks of ember that were once part of someone's life in our yard. Everywhere I went it seemed several people there lost homes and pets. Whole neighborhoods just gone & too many dead and missing, but I am truly amazed there's not more. Thank you signs everywhere for first responders, many who also lost homes, and talk of the future and rebuilding is now starting.
