The Rye fire was in my area my street runs into Rye Canyon (1/4 mile from me). The original Ventura fire is still going the wind blew it towards Ojai...winds were 70 miles an hour yesterday but have calmed down to about 20.
Never been so scared but my area seems to be o.k. so far. power still on and off. Worst I've seen. Smoke level dangerous all schools closed......I think people are setting them, so many more are sprining up

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any other explanation than arson. I was born and raised in LA, San Fernando Valley to be precise, so this really breaks my heart. Certainly can't be blamed on lightning. The Santa Ana's should end soon and that will certainly help the firefighters. I'm glad they were able to protect the Getty and all that valuable art. Things like that can't be replaced; houses can. Unfortunately, we will no doubt hear about mud slides come June. I'll be there in July to view the devastation. In my 64 years I don't recall the yearly fires ever being this bad and certainly not in the middle of winter. Definitely arson.

Shopping up and down the Colorado Rocky Mountain front range.
I agree, I lived in the Valley for years and yes, we had fires, nothing like this....has to be arson, 5 still burning.
We have't had a day of rain where I live...next will be mudslides..it's a sad mess. The Getty was built out of cement and can't burn though it is is the mountains. they knew what they were doing. Houses around there in the hills are very expensive., many stars lost their homes, but they will rebuild. Today here was beautiful, smoke left and things were back to normal, but viewing the photos on the news taken by helicopters look devastating. My ex was a builder and built a home in Mandeville Canyon, it may have been lost.

How are they affecting you, Irene anyone else? I can't imagine, I'm from Boston, Ma.
No one could have imaged this.....we're back to normal, 5 fires still burning most in the hills.

Irene - I'm glad to hear you are safe. This is way too soon for CA after Santa Rosa.

I need to give a huge KUDO'S to Facebook for inventing a safe link to let friends and family far away know your safe...hit the link and it goes out to all your Facebook friends in case they worry and can't each you....my relatives in Mexico know I'm safe, as I did when they had the Earthquake....what a great invention, making distance no longer a problem....gotta love social media.....

These can only be arson. It's so sad to see the fires in the Valley and North San Diego County destroying so many homes, property, horses and pets. Very upsetting. It's strange that the first of the fires started around Ventura County and quickly spread east while the Santa Ana winds were blowing from the east to west.

I live in Murrieta (Inland) and we had a small 300 acre fire that started on Wednesday in a hilly remote area, mostly ranches. Fortunately Cal Fire brought in one of their 727's within an hour and started dropping fire retardant. Fortunately they had the fire under control by Friday with minimal structure loss and no loss of life .

Considering the area, there is no reasonable explanation of how it started, other than arson. On Thursday night a vigilant diner in a restaurant in Anaheim Hills (site of a previous fire a few months ago that destroyed 100+ homes) spotted a small fire on a hillside out the window and enlisted another man to check it out while calling 911. They spotted the arsonist, chased him thru the canyon and cornered him until police arrived.

Thankfully the winds are finally receding and the firefighters will finally be able to get the fires under control. God Bless 'em!
I have a friend that lives in Ventura, I emailed him and called him. I have not heard from him, he has a printing business at 2261 Palma Dr. James Gray Printing, anyone know this area.
@Shoppr8, I kow Ventura Harbor well, but not anyone by that name. I would be worried, but if you have FAcebook it's a good way to know he's safe..they have a safe link. I'm sure he'll call when he's settled.

Thanks Irene,
My friend did email me. He stated that he lives close to the water and his home was not affected. He told me lots of smoke and several of his friends lost their houses. Phones lines were down for a few days.
Glad your safe!

Wind was high again yesterday and fire coming close to my town. I did a grocery in that direction and saw the smoke, but today brings calm and the courageous firemen able to control. They actually (first time) used
drolls to detect ambers and put out the Getty fire...finally found a good use for them. Been a stress filled moth.
