Good News thread

My good news is I'm headed to Colorado on Wednesday for a week. Friday is my dad's 90th birthday and June 7 is my mom and dad's 65th anniversary. Lots of family will be there and it should be fun!!!!

That's awesome, Sassy! That 65 year anniversary is quite a testimony!! Good times and bad, I'm sure, but they stuck it out!

For me, I just got back from spending several days up at my son's place with my precious daughter in law and my delightful 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter, while my son was away from home for a few days. I had a great time, and did get to see my son briefly before he left, and when he got back last night and this morning. Going back up again in July....it's SOOooooo great to hear my granddaughter keep saying, "Gwamma, Gwamma...." I love it!
I'm back from my trip for birthday and anniversaries. It was AWESOME!!!! I got to see my youngest grandson in his very first baseball game. He hit 3 out of 4 and made a couple of put outs in the field. He's only 8 and small for his age. So he did really great. We're hoping he has enough fun to want to stick with it. My dad is doing great and enjoyed his party. My mom, unfortunately, is having really bad memory issues but still she seemed to enjoy herself too.

I'm leaving to meet a fellow shopper who is shopping throughout L.A., and will be in my area....
Other news, nice easy week, restaurants starting on the 10th...cooking, what's that?

Good news day....had my carpets cleaned, my neighbor has a restoration/cleaning business, and my carpets look like new. When paying him, he happened to ask if I turned 60 yet, yes, I said proudly, I'll be 81 in Aug., he almost dropped to the ground saying you don't look it, and for your b-day, I'm knocking off 100.00......good news day!!!
I know his wife's favorite cake place, tomorrow I'm getting it for her......

That's just flat out AWESOME, Irene!!! So glad for you! And I know his wife will appreciate getting that cake from you....all around good news!!
I have so much belated good news to catch up on, and intend to, because I have had so many little joys as chaperone for school, etc.
BUT...with a quiet house...
In this week that the whole family is gone and I piled on too much to squeeze in with an empty house to work in...
My husband got some great news this am, leaked prematurely when some regionals congratulated him this am, that he is the leader of the year across the whole corporation he works for. Big deal. If he will not be a regional soon, hoping for a raise. It's been a couple of years or more...I think.
He and our oldest, 15, are staying in a beautiful rental house with other 'volunteers' working a prominent event in another region. Corporate approved him tagging along and working the event. I am still unclear if that included the plane ticket for him, but I suspect so.
My son returned a missed call and said," I think I just saw XX. I mean, it was from far away, but he was in the lead, cameras all around, and there were like 100 people following, so who else could it be? And he is the only one I know by name."
They have a long week of hard work ahead, but this kid needs a big lesson in sweat labor that I hope will motivate him to work to his potential in school and never be dismissive of what I cobble together....'not a real job.'
MFJohnston, I suspect you are a superb teacher, but we are in a great district with wonderful teachers, even in HS, and he does not have that motivation gene. Exasperating.
I hope you all are doing well and having a great summer!
Back to work
Got my ticket to Chicago over my B-day Aug. 30th...daughter throwing Mom a B-day party at her office where they have a caterer, and she will get me a B-day cake which I always say I don't want (too many candles).
I have a feeling there will be more candles than cake...smiling smiley Looking forward.... I also got good news from my eye Doc yesterday, Glaucoma in remission, still on the 5 daily drops, a bit of dry eye which we're working on, drops helping......really feel good.

My stepdaughters are in town! One is home from England, the other from Austin. Having a pizza and wine party tonight.
I am getting a new phone since I broke my old one yesterday. I was pushing my daughter's bike with one hand and trying to open the entrance door when my phone fell down. The poor protector case couldn't do it's job. Well, no use crying over spilled milk (or a broken phone). So, good news..I am getting a NEW phone!!
Getting stuff ready to leave tomorrow to head down to the Charleston area. My 45 year old step-son, who has gone through a real battle with alcoholism and went through detox & recovery several years ago, is getting married on the beach Friday!! (Long story short--his mom died from cancer when he was 12, and his world fell apart...nothing seemed right for him from that moment on. He knew he would die if he didn't get help, and about 3 1/2 years ago asked for help, and went into recovery). He has been sober for over 3 years now, and is a hard worker, and really has gotten his act together. He met a lady who also did not want to be around any alcohol or drugs, and the rest, as they say, is history! My husband and I are so happy for him!! So we're getting ready today and will be leaving tomorrow.

Guysmom, I am so happy for both you and your stepson. It sounds like he's ready for a wonderful rest of his life.

This means hope for our future. Kudos for these two, the young lady and the deaf/blind man,
who communicated via sign language during a flight.

Just a good day, no special news except so happy to be looking forward to my trip, everyday I search for small gifts to bring to my daughter, like an early Channakah, with a gift every night. She's gone to their other college doing a week long training, but told me she got tickets to the theater, it's a surprise, but if she likes it, so will I... my motto has always been, "Your as happy as your happiest child". So much love to give, so little time...smiling smiley

Make it a shop and get paid to get it!

@iShop123, I already got the Moto 6. I don't have any experience in those shops. I think they are 2 or 3 part shops and require taking a connection from a particular company. Maybe another time!
@Shop-et-al. Just warmed up my heart. Sad to see people (who are blessed with all their senses) busy with their phones all the time when they could be communicating with each other. This girl is an inspiration and she is only 15!
I still can't believe the young Thai soccer team survived all of those days together in the cave during the frantic search..

So much more to get through, but I just heard that members of the Thai Navy Seal Team have floated the idea of staying in the cave with them while they rebuild their strength and work on the rescue logistics.
Getting ready to head back up to NC tomorrow, for another long weekend with my son, DIL and beautiful grandbaby!! Can't wait to see them!

Hopefully still saying Gwamma really cute. I have reminisced a lot lately with my boys about their endearing pronunciations from their toddler years.

Have lots of fun.

Haha!! Yeah, I hope so, too!! She's a doll-baby!
Just got a text from my daughter telling me she got tickets to the musical "CHER", which I loved in the 70's. Watched the Sonny/Cher show, and how she evolved through the years, and saw her show in Vegas...very excited, have 53 days to go, but who's counting....

Irene, Cher is in the new movie Mama Mia Here We Go Again. I just watched the trailer and she's awesome as the Grandma who shows up uninvited. I want to see the movie now.

I still get nostalgic for Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves. My mom and I would crank that song sometimes on our old stereo. You know that Madmen retro console style when TVs had rabbit ears??
Daughter called in a very good mood, "asking" if I'd like to meet her boyfriend....yes oh yes, made my day. Talked about trip and what we'll be doing, thrilled to have a happy MENSCH for a daughter, can't wait, promised I'll be the MOther everyone wants....now to keep that promise...smiling smiley

So happy to hear Irene!

I first saw this when I got an alert when I checked my email at a red light--I think the only thread that I follow that way--as I exited the interstate, windows down, Sirius blasting my U2 channel for the month, sun out after periods of intermittent rain on an otherwise perfect summer day.

Hearing U2 takes me back to my college days and all of the carefree years before I met my husband. I think it was the first concert we took our oldest too as well, unless I were to count his in utero experience with the Stones on his due date. smiling smiley

Your good news made my day even better.
