Just getting Started

I hope I'm in the right place so I can get others opinion. My name is
Steven and I'm just getting started in this mystery shopping stuff but I'm a
little bit afraid to do so. I'm not going to go into the hole story but lets just
say I'm still paying the bank back $3,900 from my last incounter with a mystery
shopping deal. If I could get others opion on things it might ease my mind about
getting started in one again. And also it will help me pay the bank back faster.
I work at a regular job as a delivery driver. I deliver Hot water tank,
bathtubs, air conditioners, furnaces, etc. Anything that has to do with building
houses, I work anywhere from 8 to 12 hours a day so when I get home my mind is
still scrambled from the day at work. I would really like to get to know some people here and see about making new friends. I don't have many now because I
kinda stay to myself alot. If you would like to write me my e-mail is as follows

Sorry you appear to have been abused by a scam. There is legitimate mystery shopping. You won't get rich, it will take time to pay off the debt, but it is possible. Check Jacob's list of legitimate companies and sign up with them to find some legitimate shops.
I was scammed like that also, Now I have taken off month's from Mystery Shopping because of it. If you get anything small amount or high. Go to the bank find out if it is a real check. If it is a scam save everything-and email the info to the interent FBI, I did it.
Whatever comes in your mind e-mail it vero4112@hotmail.com.
Sometimes I am bussy, but sometimes not.
I just lost my regular job after 14 years, and with the mystery shopping, you can't talk to a lot of people.

I am still looking for an answer, what I will tell my friend, when she will ask me, what I am doing now.

Suggestions???
Easiest answer is "I'm doing consulting". For some this is a challenge to ask more but most will just leave it at that. I find the way to shut down the conversation is to indicate it is, "Mostly analytical stuff". I then change the subject to something related to them or their children.
Thanks for your advice, she is very nosy. She doesn't give up until she knows all the details. Until know I told here I am doing nothing, I am only busy with our daughter. But this excuse is not good for a long time.
Unfortunately the nosy ones are also the ones that then spread everything they have learned (or think they have learned) all over the countryside. If she is persistent then you just have to tell her, "I'm an independent contractor and my clients insist on absolute confidentiality about everything, including who they are and what I am doing. Sorry I can't tell you more." and then stick to your guns. May want to advise your daughter to tell the lady, "Go talk to Mom 'cause I don't know." since that kind of nosy person rarely will leave it alone.
Thanks.
For my daughter: she doesn' like her, and intrnds to walk off, when we see my friend.
I thought she is a friend, but I found out a year ago, that this is not the case.
We have to have contact, because we allowed her to have her horse on our property.
We thought about throwing her out, but we feel sorry for the horse, so we accept our nosy "friend" for the sake of the horse.
Vero,

Since I also do merchandising, it was an opportunity to have business cards printed. On them, I also mentioned errands and notary public. (I keep my notary supplies in my car and have used them during a break in an assignment.) Therefore, the business card/merchandising deflects the other questions. One woman saw me at a store and asked what I was doing. I said, "Merchandising", which was the truth. She said, "Is that what you were doing when I saw you last week in the other store?" Yes, I said. After they find out what merchandising is, they don't have any other questions. If they see me in a store when I am mystery shopping, I can say, "I thought I'd be a customer after merchandising" if I have to, but usually I'm not going to get any more questions.

This reminds me of a casual friend I saw at the doctor's office one day. In a room full of patients, she asked real loud, "What are you doing here?" I said, "Oh, I have a regular appointment." Some people can be soooo nosy.

Sandra
Thanks Sandra.

Last week I told her about merchandising, and like you said, she did not want to know anything anymore. I told her I am moving merchandise, and I am cleaning shelves. Now she is happy and me too.

Happy Memorial Day.
