Mike Rody with GBW Solutions

Mike Rody from GBW Solutions sent me an invitation through Linkedin to be a mystery shopper paying $300.00 per shop. I have never done this before so I researched his company and they look legitimate. I read some messages on this forum about the company being slow payers so I assumed they were actually in business. When I signed up with them Mike Rody sent me a link to put in my information and he asked for my credit card information so they could load some money on it to pay in advance for any purchases I needed to make. Well, a long story short, they just put $20,000 on my credit card which paid off my balance and then some. I of course reported it as fraud and told the credit card company not to accept it. I suppose the scam is I go and charge all kinds of purchases up to $20k on my card and then their payment of $20k is rejected by my credit card company.

Has anyone else been scammed like this or am I the only idiot who fell for this?

I hope that your credit card company has closed that account and is sending you a new card with a new number.

Just to clarify, Mike Rody with GBW didn't send you that "offer". A scammer used the name of GBW so that when you checked on them it would look legit.

Scammers appear to be very active on Linked In. You might report this to them. Maybe they'll ban the scammer.

That is correct. Come to find our Mike Rody is employed with another mystery shopping firm and they just took his name. I had one of the scammers call me today and say he was Jeff Kopper with the same firm that Mike Rody really works at. So the scam is they pay $20k from a Chase bank account to your credit card and then say to use that money to purchase Best Buy gift cards worth $2k. They do not have anything close to a survey beyond tell us how the store looked and if it is clean. I told the guy posing as Jeff Kopper to have Mike Rody call me. BTW, the Jeff Kopper who called me sounded as if he was from Nigeria, but his English was pretty good. He kept telling me that Mike Rody was sick today. I told him to have Mike Rody call me since he had always been my point of contact. He was real pushy about me going out to make the Best Buy purchases.

I would be interested to hear how your card company is handling this. This is the first time I have heard this variation on the scam.

Also, report this to IC3. FBI investigation may help stop these predators.

The real Mike Rody works for Intellishop I believe, not GBW.

I wonder if the credit card companies will do anything to track the scammers down.
