I'm a curmudgeonly hermit naturally; staying at home doesn't bother me at all. I have books galore, internet and phone to keep in touch with friends and family. The major impact to date is that I cannot shop, ergo, I am not earning any money.

But I am peeved at the rich and famous who complain about being "stuck" at home (in their mansions), without benefit of their make-up/hair people.

Just ONCE I'd like to read a story where one of these insufferables is continuing to PAY the hair and makeup people who cannot work!

If anybody sees a story like that, please let me know! It will restore my faith in mankind, LOL!!!

I am aware that many of these "rich and famous" are also contributing generously to food banks, to purchasing PPE for hospitals and other front line workers. This is a good thing.

But if I were wealthy, I'd still be paying my gardener (who cannot come to work because of stay at home), my Nanny (who can't get here because, even though she's live-in, was elsewhere when the order went into effect, so now she can't get here), my maid who can't get here, and all those others who depend on me for their survival.

Just sayin'.

My sister paid her housekeeper for two months work before she left Pakistan, even though her housekeeper will not be working. She's not rich and famous, but she does clear about $150k a year.

When I go for a walk, there are a few folks who will (intentionally) position themselves on the sidewalk such that it is impossible to properly social distance without walking well into the street, whereas moving just off the sidewalk to one side or the other, would allow me to do the same, keeping us both safe.

The rich and famous, mostly Hollywood types, are pampered and so think they are in dire straits, and they are narcissistic, which is why we hear about their "woes".

As for donations, they would be holding news conferences to announce that they gave a homeless person a dollar.

There are exceptions, some have been in the news recently (see above comment about narcissism) but not many.

There is a rapper named Cardi B (I don't know any of her stuff, not my thing) who donates money to help people. I think I read she donated a million dollars to help NYC with the coronavirus, and she also donated money to help feed families. Bill Gates gives a lot of money. Tim Cook gave our governor a bunch of PPE for our firstline responders just last week. Then you have all of the philanthropists who give money silently. There are plenty of them, I am sure, and we will never know who they are.

And of course as stated above, there are the self-entitled narcissistic ones. Yup.

BINGO! I'm so glad that this annoys at least one other person. These celebrities and sports "heroes" are pampered beyond belief, and they are fortunate to have the wealth that they have. They can't wait to self-promote any donation or kind deed. If I had that kind of wealth, I would never allow any publicity to be attached to the donation or deed.

In fairness, athletes perform training regimens far beyond the norm, so they quite literally earn their good fortune.

As for "celebrities," however, it is nothing more than "networking," which, in the old days, we called "having connections," or simply being in the right place at the right time. Hollywood would not exist if not for the never-ending pursuit of the next big "star," so the self-promotion is endless and sickening to me.

There are plenty of narcissistic and self-entitled poor people. No one knows what people stuck in their mansions are doing to help others. BTW I have plenty of ordinary working facebook friends who are moaning about their hair and nails.

LOL! I do not mind it a bit. I am Exhibit A for making light of these things. I know that it is not necessary to explain that my digits are better and healthier when someone else deals with them. I am not one of the people who has the ability to do these tasks well. I begrudge the talented ones nothing. But the same people who want to laugh at me and famous people might now hear what I am saying about how these seemingly small tasks are difficult for some people. In my little part of the world, some old and arthritic people need just a basic nail trim and buff. to smooth the tips. They cannot reach their toes, see their digits, hold the tools, or otherwise cannot take care of their own nails. This free service for seniors has been canceled or postponed (not sure which one is the case). If they do not have a buddy who will help them, they must go to a podiatrist and spend time, money, and energy for a basic nail care service. And, they risk their health by leaving home. In some places, they might fear going to the podiatrist for some non-COVID-19 issue because of policing issues. Yikes.

So when Kelly Ripa shows you her gray roots, smile about her little expose of the beauty world and think of all the people who will not be able to access a barber, stylist, or color service. Are any of you willing to help someone directly (if you and they are safe together) or pay for someone to access those services if ever we all can access the pros who make some of our pesky difficulties go away?

Yes, agreed. Volunteers regularly do free shampoos/cut/stylings/nail care for the nursing home folks here. That has been stopped. I know how important it is for those in care to feel clean and attractive; it's a mental health wellness thing, for sure.

I have severe RA in my hands. I can brush my teeth with the aid of an electric toothbrush, but I cannot care for my nails or hair.

I do not resent that others have these services. I wish I could afford them for myself, LOL!!!

I know so many people working more than one job, who would give their eyeteeth to be able to stay home and spend time with their loved ones. You dont hear them complaining about how hard it is to be stuck at home with their kids! They are reading books, baking cupcakes, taking (appropriate) walks outside, and enjoying seeing their kids grow and learn for once. They are also worried sick about paying rent or mortgage and buying groceries.

I read the other day that in the 70's, a person at an average wage job had to work 44 weeks a year to provide necessities for a family of 4. That same person, in that same job, now has to work 62 weeks a year to provide necessities. That's 10 more years than there are in a week, to provide housing, food, transportation, and medical care.

I'm just not hearing the caviling and carking from these hard working regular folks as I'm reading from the "rich and famous".

In fact, some of these hard working folks locally are making masks at home and donating them, to the local hospital, nursing home, and so on. When I went to the grocery store the other day, there was a box inside the door with donated homemade masks for every customer! I asked for permission to take more than one, and I spread them around to people who couldn't get to the store to get one for themselves.

My solution, for right now, is I quit reading the posts and stories about the rich and famous.

One of my best friends is in shut down in San Francisco. I call every few days just to check up on them. I asked him how he and his wife are doing, how the shut down is affecting them.

"What's not to like about it?" he replied. "For once, I get to spend all my time with the woman I love, my best friend."

Hooray for his attitude!

I am still paying my housekeeper/maid even though she isn't working for me right now. I also gave a her a full box of new Easter decorations and food for tomorrow. I asked her if she had everything that she needed (via text). She was looking for baby formula, but found it. I told her that I was nearly out of rice. She offered me hers. Sweet, but no. She has 4 kids and wants to give me her rice. She's a gem.

We are not Stuck at home---we are Safe at home. My peeve are those who go out to shop every day just to get out.

I go for a walk every day (weather permitting) just to go out. The last place I want to be is in a store.

I went out today on a walk/run. I have to counter all the wine I'm drinking.

My pet peeve is all the people who are buying into and spreading all the wacko conspiracy theories regarding the virus, where it came from, whether it's 'real' or not, and how all the governments have conspired to take away our rights. No, it was not lab-created. Yes, it is all too real. No, it is not an international conspiracy created by some secret society to enslave us all. Geez Louis, some people need to take an enormous reality pill.

It's annoying to see people bring their whole family to the grocery store. There's no need to bring your significant other and all your children out, especially when stores are limiting store capacity.

I know you mean 2 people per family, not 2 people in the entire store at one time. That would be funny, though.

I have not seen any families with children or group shopping during my Pandemic food shopping excursions. Before that I would see large families along with grandparents shopping. Annoying but I guess to them it was a family outing and/or together time.

I dislike rule-breaking non-social distancers - be it for reasons of ignorance or just disregard for others.

I feel by NOW, people should have learned to social distance. I gave a mental grace period to people in March, but even in April, I have seen people disregard it. Is seeing 700+ people dying a day for multiple days in New York not enough to get people to do this?

It's not hard. Literally it just takes standing a few feet away (preferably six feet or more).

In a hypothetical world of instant justice, I wish the intentional rule-breakers would have to be the ones who caught the virus and suffered the consequences.

BUT. I was a stockpiler well before this pandemic. Years ago I developed a "if it's on sale, buy a bunch of it" which has left me with a bunch of plenty of those typical shelf-stable goods.

JAS, I bought 2 5 packs of Clorox wipes, pack of 16 roll paper towels and a case of regular wipes at Costco in January. The PT were on sale. I am so glad I did as if I can't find TP in the next two days, we will be using PTs. I have ordered TP from Amazon in the past and will go that route. Thank you Flash for jogging my memory. My sister told me Jet has TP in stock too. F/S on $49. We have exactly one face mask left. DDs sewed some up. I will be stylin' at the Supermarket.

Just don't flush paper towels or facial tissues. Bad for pipes.

Question: Can't homemade masks be re-used? They can be laundered, or put in a pot of boiling water, or even microwaved to kill all the germs, right? I don't mean re-used in like a hospital setting, but cleaned and re-used at home or while on necessary trips.

All fabric masks can be laundered, hot, hot water and dryer. Maybe add a little bleach for colors.
The fact that people are throwing away on the ground rubber gloves really bothers me. What are they thinking?
I purchased a dozen bandanas. You can make no sew masks with these, folded and hair elastics for over the ears, on-line shows you easy.

I was standing in line today at the pharmacy. I'm standing on my blue square and I just had a feeling someone was standing on top of me, I glanced over my shoulder and there was a woman with 3 kids not 6 inches from me. Without turning around I told her to back up and step back onto her blue square. Her reply was "what blue square". Also the store has signs at the entrance that say only 2 family members in store.
I have always had a pet peeve about people standing right next to me with only a few inches between us, even more so now.
I transferred all my prescriptions to mail order, except one as the mail order doesn't have it.

I ordered some hand-sewn masks from Etsy and I am going to soak them in salt for double protection. They can be washed and reused. I would not recommend microwaving masks, as some might have materials that would degrade in the microwave or screw up the microwave. Mine have bendable wire to form-fit across the nose bridge which would be sure to set off sparks!

I liked this lady's design, and she offers free shipping plus they are only $5 each (set of 4 = $20) plus tax. There are other sellers on Etsy that looked okay, but this one had a filter sewn in for additional protection. Hers are actually designed to cover hospital grade masks but they offer better protection (IMO) than most.

Yes, home made fabric face masks can be reused. Boiling, hot water. You can insert those make up cotton squares in between the cloth when dry, stuff them with a wad of tissues whatever. Looking at what my DDs made and the 'norma' face mask one would by (not N65), our hand sewn ones look way more effective.
