I did my harvest today ???? and am extremely happy with my vegetables!! Chiles, jalapenos, sweet bells, Roma tomatoes, Cherokee purples, red beefsteak heirlooms and last but not least black prince heirlooms. I'll make Chile this weekend.

That's awesome! I started my seeds late and have tiny watermelons, cukes and tomatoes.

All the flowers fell off my tomatoes and the bugs got the bell peppers. Oh, and all the basil leaves fell off. But the Greek oregano just rips all year long.
I'm trying to grow oregano. I have 1 piece left. I had 20 seeds that sprouted but it all died. Supposedly it was 30 this morning.
I bought a plant at Lowes 2 or 3 years ago and I can't kill it. I've harvested it several times and it's ready again.
I picked up some oregano cuttings on Freecycle over the summer. I placed them in a big glass of water on the windowsill to let the roots come in. I potted them over the weekend. So far, so good. The leaves are huge.
I have one basil stem in the windowsill garden. I'm going to cut and root it, rinse and repeat until I have a full plant. The basil on the deck in a pot has very small leaves.
The mint, green onion, cilantro and chamomile are just...we won't discuss those.

My wife roots stuff in water like that. Basil, oregano, even celery. My oregano leaves are small, but they are potent. Love that variety, it's got a lotta kick.

Yesterday I made all things beet. Beet Smoothie, borscht, beet salad and chocolate cake with mashed beet in it.

I took a few cuttings from my spearmint plant I grew from seed. It should root in water. I will do same thing with my lavendar plant.

Yesterday I actually "caught" that blueberry pie exactly as it was about to bubble over and make a mess in the oven. It was perfectly done. Having some for breakfast. Mother always said to make enough ir(s) so that we would have some for breakfast.)
Also today, taking a non-driving friend to grocery store, quick stop to see if my favorite Pinot Grigio is back in stock at the wine store, possible drive-thru Rx pick-up. Major kitchen clean-up/out.

I had seeds, planters, and soil. I did not plant anything this year .Something else just seemed to pop up and interfere with these little projects. Oh, well....

I have a crop of tomatoes from a plant I don't remember planting. The real prize, though, is that the huckleberry bush (which requires NO care on my part) is bursting with berries.

I am considering doing a raised bed on my balcony. I am also looking for very large planters with drainage holes. These are all for next summer, but I am going to do the set up and prep over the winter.

We grow pretty big gardens, since we have the room and kids that enjoy doing their share of tending the gardens. This year we had 10 varieties of tomatoes, zucchini, corn, 2 kinds of squash, 4 kinds of hot peppers, radishes, cabbage, cucumbers, melons and herbs. We border the veggies with the herbs, which encourages the beneficial insects to stop by, yet disorients the veggie-eating bugs. I have learned so much by following online gardening forums!
Oh, and how did I forget the pumpkins? Three types; a huge orange variety, a medium sized yellow variety, and a short fat blue variety. They're really neat!

All I have left in my gardens are flowers. I have petunias, salvia, white allysum, geraniums. My zinnias and cleome died but I am thankful for what I have now. It has been pretty chilly cuz my tomatoes and peppers, zinnias and cleome died.

I planted morning glory seeds in a cup for my living room. I have many buds on it and soon will have white glories blooming. They like sun.
I planted morning glory last year in my flower bed. Oh, my! They grew so out-of-control that I ended up having to dig them up. They started growing up my house, into my yard, and hung onto everything; even chocking my roses and elephant ears. I waited for the entire summer and fall season for a flower. I finally saw one lonely flower and then it froze the next morning. I was so frustrated after fighting the vines all the summer and fall that I just dug them up and threw them in my trash can. I mainly stick to knock out roses and elephant ears now.
I planted my very first vegetable this year. It was a tomato plant. I did get some tomatoes off of it. I think I will plant a few more different veggies this coming year. That was exciting. This year, I'm going to put a little epsom salt on them to see if they will produce more like my friends say.

^too funny. I grew some that surrounded my porch then started to go up the roof.
I bought some plants at Amazon ... they arrived in good condition and they are adjusting. I got a great deal and paid $12 for 10 plants. I redeemed survey points. I got a croton, philodendron, rubber plant, 2 dracaenas, pearl and jade photos, kilanchoe and pink syngonium. ( goosefoot with pink leaves...gorgeous)

My oregano seeds came up and some basil. My citronella cutting never made it. I have cuttings from spearmint but lavendar hasn't rooted yet. I can take pieces off kilanchoe too. Coleus will root in water too. A lot of plants will.
I love the plants from Amazon!! I got some from eBay too but one lady sent me a plant that died. I got a full refund from eBay. The lady that sold me the plant refused to give me refund so eBay stepped in. I was amazed. I asked her questions but she never answered me... so based on that I got full refund. Now I order from Amazon jmbamboo sells great plants so I buy from them. I wasn't too sure about getting plants from outside as if they have bugs and they will spread to my plants. I carefully inspected all plants I got with a magnifying glass!!

Two thumbs up on the epsom salts. Mix it with water, pour it on, and stand back. I had forgotten about that stuff. Used to use it years ago. First heard about it from a farmer.

epsom salts are magnesium. I was told to put some on my plants if it rained a lot.
I miss having a compost bin, and feel guilty every time I throw compostable matter in the trash. I've thought about checking on NextDoor to see if someone close by would accept my waste. Do you think that would be a weird request?
