Holiday Plans: go or no go?
We stayed home for our Canadian Thanksgiving. And had no visitors.

For the 1st time in my life I bought a turkey to cook for Thanksgiving. DH & I always are invited to a relatives home. I might invite two local freinds whom ate in my backyard July 4th. OR we might drive from IL to N.C. to check on MIL and have Thanksgiving at her retirement home. Probbly we will dine just the two of us. I will crank out all the side dishes and we will have leftovers for days and days.
For our Canadian Thanksgiving we had a picnic outdoors with four of us at the opposite ends of an eight foot table. We ate turkey sandwiches.

No gathering this year. I volunteered to take the shift at work, so it’s triple and a half time for me. I have to work thanksgiving every 3 or 4 years, so this seemed like a good year to do it.
No gathering, but I am eyeing freezer space and wondering if I will ever find a 10 lb turkey. Even cooking for one, a small turkey seems feasible, since I can freeze meal sized portions of the cooked bird. Then, again, I may just roast some turkey thighs.

It will be just me and my older brother this year at my place.
There was an article in my newspaper last week saying that small turkeys will be very hard to come by. Farmers had to make plans for their flocks pre-COVID, and they planned for large gatherings. Your thighs sound like a nice Plan B.

Today I bought turkey wings that i am roasting and will then use to make a gravy base to freeze.
I have seen nothing smaller than 13 lbs at the stores. AND, NO turkey broth could be found, so I am making the base using chicken broth. I have done so in the past, and no one noticed, lol.

We have a small family and we already see each other at least once a week so I hope its Thanksgiving as usual (and Christmas too).
I've been looking for a frozen turkey breast. Target used to sell them, but not this year. I am thinking that they aren't going to do many of them due to the unsanitary and unsafe conditions in meat packing facilities. It's much faster to send out a whole bird than to cut it up and separate it.@KathyG wrote:

Well, my stepson got the Covid-19 sometime in the past 2 weeks. We think at the TCBH Facility. Which is the Tulsa County Behavioral Health Hospital. He just got out of a different hospital today and the spousal unit put him up in a Motel until his apartment becomes ready. So not much going on here.

We are staying at home, napping, and watching movies. It's okay. I have worked until 9 PM for the past three nights and will work at midnight or so tomorrow morning. The day of rest is a good time for back care and tiny projects.

Last year, we were in Cancun. Excepting last year, we always stay home and have a small feast, shopping deals, playing games, etc. This year would be no different. Having no family here makes everything the same this year. My husband's brother and his family lives in Boston and they usually have a big gathering. We get together most summers but not on Thanksgiving and I am thankful for that. His wife gets on everybody's nerves!!
Daughter-in-law purchased one at Walmart. Yesterday she brined it. Today she boned it, cooked it sous vide. and sliced it. Tomorrow she will reheat in the oven. I can't wait to try it.

No Thanksgiving plans other than going to a Native American Casino and playing afternoon Bingo. I am flying to Florida (from AZ) next week to attend my grandson's wedding. I'm not worried. When It is my time to go, so be it, we really can't control destiny, even by hunkering down in a basement.

For Thanksgiving, we had a 12 lb turkey. Stuffing, Cranberry sauce jelled and boiled. Sweet potatoes, For the sweet potato we had orange and purple potatoes. Mashed potatoes, Green beans, Cornbread pudding, Cornbread stuffing, gravy, dinner rolls, and sweet tea.
We were just the 4 in our 'bubble' for Thanksgiving and that is how it will be for Christmas as well. Next year will be get togethers across county and perhaps even state lines. We will stay hunkered down for now until all in our bubble have gotten the vaccine with the approximately six weeks between the first dose and immunity before we break the bubble. The plan is to continue with masks until the vaccine has been available to all who will take it for six weeks. There will likely be folks still getting the virus because they won't/can't vaccinate, but it will be up to them to protect themselves and at least there will likely be hospital space to accommodate them.
While it has been a trying year, I can honestly say that overall the quality of life has not significantly diminished for us but rather new pathways have opened that have their own opportunities and joys.

My next holiday is New Year's Eve/Day. Sounds like a two day fun fest, right? All night, all day, oh boy!
But no. I will doing other fun things, such as inventorying PPE, cleaning supplies, the infamous vanishing and reappearing tp, and signing up for more companies (in hopes of finding the ones that have gigs here and there that will make my word days more efficient).

Did the same thing for Christmas. Volunteered to take duty. Made a ton of money and wasn't going anywhere, anyway.

Very well put! I am so irritated by people who are choosing out and about to assume those of us Bubbling are hunkering down and merely hiding or not existing! I have done a zillion things in the comfort of my home this year that I would not have ordinarily had the opportunity or time to do. Yes can’t wait to get out but we too are waiting until the vaccines have taken hold ...my over 65 husband got his Thursday...I have to wait and am excited for the day.

Last night we gathered with two other couples who are close friends. Although we weren't in an official bubble, Hubby and I believe each of the four people do a good job of practicing social distancing. In the end it's all about trust.
