I am interested in info about getting to Africa. I just want to get there. I do not like to fly. smiling smiley Anyone been there?

I have not been there. However, taking a ship from the US to a Mediterranean port that has easy sea access to Africa or, even to Alexandria or another N. African port seems to be the simple, non-air route.

When I went to France, I went through Globus Journeys. The tour was 8 days from Paris to Monaco. Moulin Rouge, a famous casino and the Louvre were extra. Breakfast was included daily and so were 3 dinners. They were not memorable I enjoyed the dinners I did on my own.

I opted to do my airfare through Globus because it included ground transportation.

That sounds great for travel anywhere. The largest cost is going to be to get to the continent. may never happen.

I have crossed the Atlantic three times by ship. Basically, there are a couple of cruise ship companies that have very, every inexpensive prices from Caribbean ports when moving ships east in the spring and west in the autum. to Spain and/or Portugal. Think round trip for less than one way by air. And, of course, 3 meals, a comfortable bed, entertainment, and lots of opportunities to use the recreation facilities. Best of all, arriving without any jet lag ! So, no "down time" when arriving. Easy ship passage from Gibraltar and some other Iberian ports to N. Africa.

So, it will pay to wait for cruise travel to be safe.

I wonder if I would be able to convince Hubby to do something like this after he retires.

Err, the repositioning in the autumn is fro the Med and northern Europe to the Caribbean and Florida ports. Sorry for the confusion.

My mom used to do those "reposittioning" cruises and loved them. Bring as many books as you have room for! There's a lot of down time to sit and read.

I actually finally got a Nook to carry books on 12 day cruises, lol.
