Get Upside

gene, as in all situations, you have to know your prices. The Shell station in my zip code offers cheaper prices with Go Upside. Also, I drive past them when I leave my community.

BJ's is the closest club store to me. I don't have the option of a free annual membership. Also, while they are not far from me, I have to make an effort to get to them.

My referral code is NYRVC

I did not mention free membership with BJ's. I past user of it and paid $25 for one year membership with them which was ended in November this year. I was considering getting Sam's. Searched for benefits of having it. While I was considering to get it one MSC offered to me mystery shop with full reimbursement for one year membership. I took such offer.

I mentioned BJ's because you mentioned Sam's...direct correlation. The MSC that shopped BJ's only offered the trial membership as frequently as you wanted.

Do you like Sam's enough to renew?

In my area, the discount last week was only $0.01/gallon off. Walmart was cheaper by 2 cents, even with the discount. But....because I'm not crazy about Walmart, I bought the gas at Ingles with Upside. But if it had been up to a nickel cheaper at Walmart, I would have gone with Walmart. I think Upside ought to offer discounts for "old" users, not just new users, periodically, but I haven't seen any. Gets kind of discouraging after starting off with a bang with all these discounts for a new user. Now....nothing.
I said that had BJ's membership that ended at November 30. I just get Sam's yesterday while doing mystery shop.
The company that offered BJ's in the past did just trials or canceled shops after you got them. It was BC. I opened account with BJ's in my own with out mystery shops. Comparing with Sam's it was the best choice for me since Pandemic they have curbside pick up with out any fees. I paid just $25 for first year. Comparing with $45 Sam's and $60 Costco that is like a steal. But getting now free Sam's (for a year) not bad at all. I just need to figure out the best time to shop there to avoid crowd. It is likely on Tuesday. They have window from 7:00AM till 9:00 AM for seniors. I did not tested gas station yesterday (my tank was full) just checked the price. The same as BJ's. There is no wonder: they are located across from each other.

Sam's Club is/was offering an opportunity to make all/most/more purchases eligible for a discount, or 5% points, or something. I need to see what it is all about and whether this upgrade is still available. Sam's is the closest club to me, and they provide free shipping. I am not averse to joining other clubs and signing up for other deals.

they provide free shipping for $100.00 membership fee. I am not going to such level. and per my scenario I shall sign for Club membership only. But they also have free of charge for side walk pick up orders.

gene, I'm doing the shop this weekend for a free Club membership. It's in an area where I do a lot of shops, but not close enough where I would go solely for gas. This will be my first visit.

I pumped my gas while shop at BJ's. Now I will do it across from it at Sam's. The same company who offer sign for free membership has another mystery shops at Sam's. So in my next visit (likely next week) I will do it. There are some apps shops there as well.

Trying to make online order from Sam's for coming Monday (pick up). Comparing to Costco and BJ's Sam's has the much less items to choose from.

Thanks for the insight gene. I was a member of BJ's on my own dime, off and on for a long time. I like the fact that their bulk items were smaller than Costco's. They were also convenient as far as location. I haven't checked Upside to see if they are participants. It's good to know Sam's is.

I joined Sam's Club today. I was tight on time, so I couldn't walk around like I wanted.

Before last week I had to drive past Sam's Club to get to Costco, where I have a membership. However, thanks to a shop I now have a card at Sam's too. Now for the next year I can pick and choose which club to shop at.

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor Roosevelt
I picked my groceries from Sam's today. It appeared that they loaded my order to the trunk of my car. I parked sent them my parking spot from the app and associate come over (without asking for my membership) and loaded them. Prior to that I got gas. There was a big line waiting to get it because few pumps were closed. The price was $3.13 comparing with $3.26 at the BJ's across from Sam's and Costco that was far away with $3.35.

Slickdeals.net regularly has notifications for sam's club memberships with an equivalent gift card for the cost of the membership. Dunno if it's for new members only. Prices are pretty much the same as Walmart just larger quantities and lots of places that have loss leaders/sales are way cheaper. I dropped get upside after my first cash out. The regular gas gift cards and cents off at the grocery stores are close to the same.

Thanks cooldude! Someone mentioned that in the Sam's Club thread in the MS section. I already had my membership by then. The next time I go, I'll see if they are a GetUpside participant.

they are not. But price at pump is great. Used it twice. last time I filled my tank and went back with another car to get it. The difference is $0.50 per gallon that is a lot.

Fifty cents a gallon is a great price! I'm going to see if I can get a shop this weekend and fill up my tank while I am there.

They never seem to have any codes for existing users, and it is discouraging. Gas prices are rising, and they want to offer a whole .02 cents off/gallon! Nope. I'll gas up at Walmart, where the prices are cheaper.
Why do you say there aren't codes for existing users? What does that mean?

Any new user can use a referral code, such as you provide, to give them a fairly good deal on gassing up. Once you've moved beyond being a "newbie" with them, you can search and search the internet, but all the so-called "promo codes" for Get Upside are either only for first time users or are invalid. Does that make sense?
Ah, yes, okay. I only see the first code entered. Thanks for the explanation.

Message from Get Upside:

Why you’re seeing lower gas offers right now

If you’ve followed the news or fueled up recently, you’ve likely noticed higher gas prices and temporarily lower gas offers on GetUpside.

All GetUpside gas offers are funded by gas stations themselves. And right now they’re spending more than they’re making on gas. This means most gas stations are losing money with each fill-up, but they’re still committed to providing you with all of the cash back they can. You can learn more about why this is happening in our blog.

GetUpside has always been about the win-win-win

People earn cash back, businesses earn profit, and communities thrive. When outside factors disrupt that cycle, our app automatically adjusts.

When gas prices stabilize and stations return to business as usual, you’ll see more of the high cash back offers you know and love.

The good news

Cash back offers at restaurants and grocery stores aren’t affected, so you’ll see the same great offers you’re used to.

We appreciate your patience. Thank you for being part of the GetUpside community.

Make every day more rewarding

I refuse to believe this. Gas stations raise their prices based upon the price of the gas when it is delivered. They can raise the price every hour if they want to. Why would they sell a gallon of gas for less than they paid for it? That statement is a marketing ploy from GetUpside and nothing more. I have personally seen prices change at a given station more than once a day recently. Why - why - would they sell it to me for less than they pay for it? Because they like me? Well, like me twice as much, and sell it to me at an even bigger loss, please. Loss leader? For what? Yesterday I paid $0.20 per gallon less at Sam's Club than I could have paid anywhere other than BJs.

BTW, I hope that everyone knows that in NJ, the law requires that Sam's Club, BJs, Costco, etc. sell gasoline to everyone at the same price. No membership is required. That is not true in Delaware or Pennsylvania. I don't know about other states, but it is worth checking.

People are looking for a reason for the high gas prices. Personally, I don't believe the sudden increase is due to the political issues in the Ukraine. Are they even a major supplier of US oil? The US has oil sources in Texas, Alaska and California.. There is always Saudi Arabia. Why the sudden dependence on Russian oil?

"I told myself to quit you; but I don't listen to drunks." -Chris Stapleton
The US imports 9% of its oil from Russia even though the US is now a net exporter of crude oil. It is easier to bring oil into the Northeast from Russia since the Jones Act basically forbids foreign-flagged and foreign-crewed tankers from transporting oil between two US ports. Similarly, oil from Alaska is much closer to Japan than most parts of the US and there are no Jones Act issues taking the oil to Japan. [The Jones Act is more complex than what I stated, but what I said is true for all practical purposes since there are no US-flagged and crewed oil tankers.]

The Jones Act is the one that affected the pipeline to Mexico? Did it affect the crude oil production in California, Texas, New Jersey and Pennsylvania?
