Now just to be clear I don't mystery shop, promote, or merchandise like I used to. Reality is local companies never raised rates, and I found better ways to earn a living.

During Covid-19 a job I loved turned south, new boss, new direction in the company. We all know the score card. I ended up taking a rebound job that for every day I did it, I hated it. I was living less than paycheck to paycheck with them.

Well with the labor crunch, I did what any smart person would do. I put out some resumes, cited my skills, and wait for it. Now selecting my next job! Yes, it sound arrogant as sin, I am choosing my next job since I have so many offers.

I am proud to have joined The Great Resignation to say good luck and good riddance to my rebound job! They will be going bankrupt in the years a head if my experience with them is any indication.

Same here. Final Interview Monday. 25% bump in wage and significant perks and bonuses. I'm hoping for the best.

I was just reading in an online blog (Salon, maybe?) that the Black Death in Europe caused a major shift in the wages of the lowest classes, and they began to acquire more wealth as a group as a result. Hopefully Covid will do the same; there are definitely shifts from where I see it.

The Black Death also began the end of feudalism in Europe, and the beginnings of private land ownership. Also beginning of the end of first son inheriting everything. So many royals and aristocrats (25% to 33% and more of local populations wiped out) died that the old ways could not hold.

The covid crisis is ongoing. Despite blaming unemployment benefits for their staffing issues, Lots of businesses are having a hard time finding people to work for them. I guess they forgot that so many people died of covid, were disabled by long covid, or had to stay home with young children due to the "on again off again" situation with the schools, or taking care of newly covid-disabled family.

Many employees have adapted so well to working from home that large corporations are having to take all of it into account. Result: Higher wages/salaries, more flexibility. Before the Industrial Revolution, everyone worked from "home."

I did the same thing about 8 yrs ago, but I not only got a separation pkg, I joined the FIRE movement. My spouse joined me a few yrs later. Couldn't be happier...(well maybe if this little Chinese Flu thing wasn't around we'd be traveling.)
