Speedy Points

I thought of starting this topic this morning since there has been much discussion about the rising gas prices.

Who else takes advantage of gas stations' rewards points programs?

The main one in my area that does this is Speedway. The points seem to add up quickly, plus those always have bonuses. The last big bonus was 7000 extra points if you scan your Speedy card 10 times in a 25 day period.

Sunday I had enough points to get a $25 Speedway card that I used to fill my tank. It was the third time in a year that I got $25 in free gas.

As I was doing grocery shops on Sunday I took advantage of the store's offer for a gas gift card valued at $50 for $40. Choice was Shell, Chevron or BP. In my market BP is the least expensive of the three at a station where they are directly competing with Walmart's Murphy Gas and BJ's member prices. So although BP is more expensive than the others, the discount on the gas card will make BP significantly cheaper.

On a brighter note, the price of a barrel of oil dropped below $100 last week because at the high prices Americans cut their gas use by 3%. Although gas prices went up as fast as the price of a barrel of oil did, they certainly won't go down as fast but we should be seeing some relief as we go into summer.
In my area the prices have gone down a bit. The highest I've paid lately was $4.39, but it's now $3.99.

There's a grocery store here whose customer loyalty card earns points at a gas station. Unfortunately, the grocery store has limited selections and isn't shopped. Nor is it competitively priced. The gas station linked to their card is .07 more per gallon, or higher, than competitors.
Unfortunately today the price of a barrel of oil went up about $5 so it is over $100 again, but I don't think it will last. Of course some are saying it will 'soar' to $120 a barrel by summer but I think Cettie needs to use her manure fork on that.

Right at the moment we are being gamed. We are about to the beginning of the summer driving season and the oil companies are closing down refineries 'for maintenance'. This is pure bull and a ploy to keep gas prices up. Similarly the flooding on the Mississippi will shut own refineries in Louisiana. Maybe. Don't believe for a minute that these guys cannot plan their business (and do) better than that!

There is one grocery store I go to often that earn points on gas, plus they are shopped and a do a few of their shops per month. It doesn't really add up to much though. For every $100 you spend per month, you get 10 cents off each gallon of gas for one fill up. I only have a 13 gallon tank so the most I could possibly get is $1.30 since it is only for one fill up. Their gas stations though do tend to run 5-7 cents less than others in the area though.
