It's not a full moon tonight, but sure felt like it!

Wow. I am the most impatient person in line. (Yes, I am in the wrong business. Those dang lottery people buying one ticket at a time.) I would have been fuming. I'm sure I would have left halfway through that. I've noticed several times lately people getiing their card declined, and then declaring they forgot it was locked, and then they spend several minutes unlocking their card. Not stepping out of the way, but expecting everyone to wait on them.

The slightly off people I can deal with, but you are right there is always a chance something will go wrong. When doing reveals, especially where I have to take a torso photo, these ones sometimes try to involve themselves and ask why I am doing it. I just ignore them and talk straight to the employee. If they persist, I just ask them if they work there, and then dismiss them. Don't get me wrong, when people approach me while I am taking pictures I am happy to engage. It is just those who somehow think they need to get involved in the employee exchange.

What is up with people today?

Humans are the scourge of the earth.

Present company excluded, of course.

Or most of you, anyway...

Sign of the times. Alot of desperate people and mentally ill now. Desperate people do desperate and stupid things. Ever since curbside was born I hardly ever go into a grocery store. COVID is ramping up (Again!). I avoid crowds as much as possible. It sounds like you were as diplomatic as possible.
I don't know... mostly loonatics and folks with disabilities don't bother me, though I did have one come up to me in my car and punch my car. He screamed something about rich people and new cars, then punched my VERY well used 2006 Ford Fusion with 142,000 miles on it, and put a brand new shiny dent in the door.

I see a bunch of videos online, where some guy comes up behind someone and pays for their groceries. Or some woman whines about not having the money and the folks in a hurry behind her pay for everything just so they can get done with shopping. They aren't uplifting stories to me. I have been helped by strangers a couple times in my life, never for 3 or 4 times the amount of money I actually have, only for a few pennies or a couple $$ when I didn't add it right in my head. And I have turned around and done the same for folks who caught themselves off guard, but certainly not $150 worth. I've let folks use my Kroger card to get discounts (and I could get the fuel points).

I believe in compassion and doing good deeds, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of. I've taken pan handlers and folks who claim to be homeless inside the grocery store and buy groceries for them. And there used to be a guy that sat outside of a Von's store in Riverside with his dog, I would buy him a sandwich and a hunk of meat for his dog every time I saw him. He was really nice. Though he was puzzled by the meat for his dog, I told him my dogs eat meat, and I won't buy poison for anyone else's dog either, so his dog gets meat from me. He laughed and said ok. The store manager ran him off eventually, but he wasn't hurting anyone, nor was he asking for anything.

There was one time I took a lady inside a grocery store (I think that was Von's too) to get food for her kids. All she wanted was sugary and sweet things in sealed packages. She didn't want any fresh fruit or sandwich meat or anything that could be made into a sandwich. And when we left the store she asked me for the receipt, and I said no. I needed it for my records, and it was my money that I spent, not hers. She cussed me out, threatened me.. oh boy. The manager of the store came out and asked about the commotion, I told him what happened and he said he would take care of it. My groceries were already in the car, so I just left, with the receipt in my hand. I don't know if the manager gave her the money back or not, I tried to do a good thing. It still doesn't stop me from helping folks when I can, though I'm a little more wary from the start.
