JURY DUTY: Excused as self employment?

When you get a jury summons out here in Podunk, you have to go online and enter a code from the summons, and then answer a few questions. ("Are you a US citizen?" "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" etc.)

The last question asked is, "Are you of sound mind and good moral character?"

I wonder what happens if I answer the last question "No." smiling smiley

Please don't feed the MSF trolls!

Feeding the MSF trolls bread or other human food is detrimental to their health and the environment. It can lead to malnutrition, disease, and behavioral problems in trolls, as well as water pollution and the spread of pests. Trolls are capable of finding their own food sources and don't require human assistance.

Paying $100 a day would likely require a tax increase and a willingness on the part of everyone to pay their taxes. Does that sound good to you, John?

If they paid better more people would serve. Pay $100 a day and people will line up to serve.

They can cut other wasteful programs to pay for it or tax the rich.

I'd try it, but then the little man in the white lab coat would show up on my doorstep again.

OMG, so did I. Standby call in for the Supreme Court in my county. I finished serving Grand Jury but this is a different jurisdiction.
I forget what TV show. I remember watching something where a juror got "whacked" one by one by a mob boss defendant on trial.

No, but I have never tried. Once I was excused because I stated my mistrust of the system, because of a crime I experienced. They quickly excused me.

Another time, I got a doctor’s note. I was rear ended, which caused my body and mind all sorts of trauma. The note said with everything I was experiencing, there was no way I could possibly serve. I was excused. Because of my problems, I do not think I will ever serve. I would need to be on pain killers, have dark glasses (sensitivity to light), I would need someone to explain stuff to me, maybe the same thing, everyday (problems from a brain injury), I would need. A comfortable seat and not to be called out if I moan loudly from pain. They definitely can put me on a jury, but they will kick me off.
I guess I am in the minority. I have actually enjoyed my jury duty. I have found it very interesting. I once thought I was a shoo-in to get on a high-profile grand jury and was hoping to be foreman. (Political, conspiracy type thing) I wanted to write a book and get rich.
Despite injuries, I served. The back was less bad then, and jury service lasted only one day. The procedings were interesting to me, and the jury had no difficulty reaching a determination. It would be more difficult now to sit for prolonged periods in the provided seats, but if tptb installed recliners-- such as those in a movie theater auditorium-- I would be comfortable. (Mind you, they would need a bigger building.) For people with health concerns: I hear you. In a perfect world, you would quickly access the designated area and have seating. You would be assigned to a case that is interesting or compelling enough to engage you and distract you from discomforts for awhile. You would, potentially, have an experience that enriches in some way, if not monetarily.

Good news for some. The pay for my county's jurisdiction has increased almost 2 fold per day. Nearing $100 but not quite there. Some other changes too. Thank goodness my employer pays my full salary while serving.
