What are your atomic habits?

What are the tiny changes that you made in your life that resulted in remarkable results? smiling smiley

nc-retiree mentioned the book Atomic Habits in another thread. I feel that's the book I need right now. After that, The Holy Bible.

On another note, I have had fun in General Chat smiling smiley Sometimes, I think to myself, why do I torture and aggravate myself by visiting these forums? But then I stumble upon those nuggets and feel-good posts such as nc-retiree sharing Atomic Habits and yknottnc sharing a personal moment smiling smiley

Atomic Habits is a great book.
But, I think all my little habits fell by the wayside lately. I better pick one to work on.

grinning smiley Atomic? Have not read that book. Practical? Definitely! I have begun using audio and e-audiobooks on my phone more often. Oldies, such as classics in the public domain, are on one app. The library has numerous and newer resources. The Bible is on an app that has features for reading, listening, and studying. You can choose among versions and even set a timer within the app for each session! All these resources are free.

Is this atomic because I am hands free while learning, enjoying, thinking, working, working out, etc. and have no excuse to procrastinate?

I believe atomic because the results compound over time by small actions that evolve over time. At least, that's what I gathered from the introduction smiling smiley After reviewing the chapter list, it's a well-thought-out framework.

The habits are personal to you and what you want to achieve. Maybe we are one in the same smiling smiley

Thinking about some atomic habits, I strive to replace screen time with outside time. Stretch, breathe, reflect, cleanse. I believe my other post got deleted or is in the process of moderation smiling smiley However, I mentioned medical massages and chiropractic adjustments. I strive to be kinder to my body and carefully listen and be in tune with it. *om!* smiling smiley

Edited to add: With each post, I believe I am in tune with the whole forum moderation team. Just kidding.

Thank you. I am guessing that my little change, to more extensive use of e-audio materials, counts as atomic. This little change makes my reading/listening/learning/amusement/working/working out/etc. easy to fit into each day and into most places. I actually do more of what is important now than I did when I was reading the tangible books almist exclusively.

This consistent action is the way to achieve lasting change, which is the basis of the atomic change process. Right?

I heard prince's concern. It could be easy to attempt too many changes, or implement contradictory or conflicting changes. I did not set out to do anything atomic; i just found one way to incorporate my little set of activies more consistently. Anywayyyy, i have added the book to my list of books to read in due time.

Excellent job on your atomic habit smiling smiley

Yes, I believe maintainable actions over a long period of time are a tenet.

Correct, I believe that is the way to approach it. (I tend to overcomplicate, hehe)

Yes, please read the book. It may be of benefit to you.

For myself, the way I would like to read this book is in its physical and tangible format. No speed-reading, skimming, highlighting, or annotating. Just reading every word at my leisure. Reading one chapter a day.

I have read the first chapter. The author recommends long-term and sustained systems over goals. For myself, I do like to define and visualize the outcome, and then reverse engineer from there into the actions required. Also, I like how the author recaps the chapter at the end with a summary and takeaways.

So far, I noticed a lot of the examples are sports and physical performance. The author stresses not to focus on the result, but on the process of improving. A lot of mantras from professional athletes resonate.

I believe I will enjoy this book smiling smiley

hmmmm not sure I have any....I focus more on attitude than behavior....lol it all falls into place that way....but doesn't sell any books. I am sure the author is enjoying his rewards lol.

Two books about attitude had a profound effect on me many years ago. But I'll opt not to share smiling smiley

I couldn't help but notice a byline on the book, "... and break bad ones." In some ways, I regret posting on the forums. We all see things through different lenses and perspectives. It has a different effect on us.

Shop-et-al and prince, please continue to mind General Chat at your leisure. Your tolerance and attitude are far superior to mine smiling smiley

Additionally, I'll let you return to your original programming of politically charged discussions in the General Chat of MSF. Have fun smiling smiley

Oh my.

I never would have envisioned this - that because someone has a different point of view, a view soooo very impersonal, that it would lead to door slamming.

In the words of Beto O'Rourke:

“If you’re thin-skinned, you’re probably not going to last very long in anything that involves public opinion.”

Best wishes Okie.
BarefootBliss, I was going to refrain from commenting further. But let me express my personal public opinion of you. When ServiceAward told you that the world does not revolve around you and to get over yourself, I thought it was too harsh. But I couldn't agree more.

You ask for advice and feedback. And then you repeat the same request. Members give you the feedback, but you don't retain it or put it into effect. It's hard to read some of your requests and train of thought.

When others post topics of merit, you post dismissive one-liners.

You talk about beer money. But then you complain about a late payment amounting to peanuts. Then you seek "passive" ways to earn money. I truly don't believe you understand passive income. In my opinion, you're a walking contradiction.

I could go on and on. I was going to refrain from commenting and spare you, but you elicited my public opinion of you. Have fun smiling smiley

I realize I am way too subtle for many posters here and probably hard to define and yes, that could come across as contradictory at times, but you know what? so what? either respond or keep scrolling. No drama necessary. My posts don't take jabs at anyone but me.
So far I've only had to defend the truth against one poster here and only because he/she was turning everything into an attack on the truth...better to debate the point, not the person. That's what real maturity is. I only asked you refrain from sidetracking my posts with teenage boy toilet humor.

Again Okie or whoever you are, best wishes in the future.

BF ~ best to say who you are referring to so as not to confuse people. If you get in the mix, then you’re kind of expected to at least do that. Otherwise your posts are too esoteric.
Okie tries to act like I don’t get under his skin, but I do. It probably goes back to when he was ‘Service Award.’ He launched a vicious attack on me as a newbie over something as benign as my idea of an Ipshitz class action lawsuit. He tried to get me booted then, which only resulted in an artfully crafted smackdown that he won’t soon forget. He needs to learn how to let go and not try to control things here.
Minime, you make me smile today smiling smiley I have some thin skin. Maybe that's why the massages are so effective on me smiling smiley

Your conclusions make me laugh even more smiling smiley I might have read one of your past posts. To be frank and not politically correct, a lot of members might have called you nuts and found you to be loony. I never had a problem with Ipsos. In all honesty, I was indifferent at best smiling smiley

BarefootBliss, if you found my words harsh, don't take it personally. I provided feedback on my observations of your actions on the forums, with some personal bias mixed in. Thank you for your support smiling smiley

I have reflected on the words delivered to me. There are some truths to it. I will acknowledge that. I will not harbor ill will. You are all in my prayers. *om* grinning smiley

pani, did any one of those folks ask you for your opinion of them? I didn't read that in any of their comments. Did you fall into a wingnut info silo and can't find your way out?
Morledzep, when Barefootbliss posts:

Also, Morledzep, some unsolicited advice for you: Don't feel the need to post about your personal life and extended family tree with us. It's exhausting and draining how you try to elicit sympathy for everything that's gone wrong in your life. Also, no need to take shots at Shop-et-al for being a "lifestyle" shopper. Grow up.

feel free to toggle me pani, if me explaining my reasons for doing what I do is so offensive to you. And I have no idea what Shop-et-al posts, I have them toggled, I can't see their posts, and I don't want to. fork you very much.

I've never solicited sympathy or empathy from anyone, for that matter. I do often share too much, that is just me, I have always been that way.
I totally forgot that I mentioned that book here, I think it was in context of not counting the time I spent between photographing my meal and leaving the fast food place because I bring a book and stack the habit of reading non-fiction on top of the habit of MS.

One of my habits is to go out once a week (usually Tuesday morning) for a relatively long drive to a variety of coffee places and do my weekly review/brainstorming session. Sometimes it's 20 minutes away, sometimes it's 50 minutes away. Now I'm trying to stack at least one MS stop on the way home, even if it's just a $5 Field Agent end cap compliance audit. Which is why I'm online and meandering through here on a Sunday night.
Morledzep, feel free to post and share as you'd like. I'm only here to respond to anything directed at me or mentioning me.

I'll be in the wingnut info silo you referenced earlier. Thank you very much.

Hey y'all. Thank you for your attention to this matter. If Pani is Okie, I am fine with that even though I didn't correlate the two identities. They are kind. I honestly don't understand how Atomic Habits is controversial. It is a great book I listened to it on ebook and gifted it to my three children. Shop et all is a wonderful human as is Barefoot and Mineme. Let's not allow the divisiveness in our current environment to muddy our forum group. You are all wonderful and helpful with the exception of a couple who "will not be named." Blessings.
Equine24, thank you. I hope my post is able to be approved, as my posts have now been put under review. As a result, this is most likely my last post. I thought you had always carried yourself well. I did not like it when you were upset by political comments. I was glad that the initial political post got closed.

Books like this mean a great deal to me and have had a lasting impact. I believe that is why I overreacted.

To be 100% honest, visiting these forums has brought me down again recently. That is my truth. I do not want this yo-yo type relationship with the forums. I am glad to move forward, as I believe the level of respect has not always been reciprocated back to me from certain members.

There are some members whom I take exception to, as well. I understand that I did not do myself any favors with some of my behavior and could have handled differences better. This is over-sensitiveness on my part.

From what I have read, you care a lot about the forums and their members. I hope you continue to enjoy the forums. You will kindly be in my prayers smiling smiley

So another atomic habit is spending too much time online, generally. At the end of this week (presumably) I will know what to change in other areas- and end up offline, more productive, and free of unanticipated additional time-oriented issues. Ironically, I found my way to getting up reeaaallly early in the morning and loving both the morning and early activity many years ago, and long before I found General Chat and the notion of Atomic Habits. Recently, I found an oldie but goodie principle of change from Arnold Bennett. His recommended change was to get up earlier in the morning and apply the beneficial changes in one's personal and work lives. I already do this! And, the internet happened between publication of Bennett's helpful book and General Chat. It is possible that changes can reverberate in beneficial and not-so-good ways. Me? I need to manage my time on the internet. It is too much of a good thing. YMMV.
