Tearing down the White House

Is anyone else alarmed by the prospect of the new ‘ballroom’ becoming ground zero for an armed coalition of ‘patriots’ ICE or National Guard troops in the event of a coup?
It seems to be happening with lightning speed, without a thought about historical preservation. If he pays for it with his own money and by collecting donations, who owns it? Can it be raided under that circumstance?

When he made the deal to buy the historic Bonwit Teller building, part of that deal was to preserve the statuary and gargoyles built into it. Did he honor that? NO. It was torn down before anyone had a chance to stop it. History repeats itself.

Oh, pu-lease. There are Democrats who also appreciate the fact that a ballroom for special functions is being added. Why?? Democrats also saw the need for space inside a temperature controlled area for occasions that were previously held under tents.

Anything to create a no-news story...give it a break. Get your peeps to the negotiation table.
Rump has been a spendthrift his whole life. He will bankrupt this country with all of his self serving projects as he did with his own companies - several times. If the White House was a vessel for galas and entertainment, one would think a ballroom would have been built before now.

The East Wing holds the offices of the First Lady. I’m sure he finds it symbolic to tear that down, since what do they contribute other than turning the White House interior into a giant Red Rum come Christmas time?
The speed and disregard for history are both alarming, especially in light of the shutdown. I dislike that it was major corporations that donated towards this. Its sketchy.

I also find his taste in decor to be gaudy, personal opinion, nothing to do with political opinion.
Or as my spouse would say, "that's why there is vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, black cherry, etc. flavors of ice creme." It accounts for each individual's preference. Some like to mix different flavors. To each their own.

...and in this case, no one was forced to pay for the ice creme. It was donated.

Now for the real battle: is it sprinkles or jimmies? smiling smiley
Well, a list of donors who helped make the White House ballroom possible includes; Amazon, Google and Microsoft. They are the three major US companies that provide the web services which make the Internet possible, including this forum, the MSC Web pages, your online banking services, Medicare, Social Security, etc.

Remember when Americans were up in arms to the point of getting Cracker Barrel to reverse course after they started reimagining and renovating their brand? But, yeah, let's bulldoze the White House.
No, the Cracker Barrel mismanagement in branding is closer to the Coke vs New Coke or the Bud Lite fiasco. All of which will be Marketing textbook examples of branding errors.

It’s what’s called an ‘oligarchy’ Einstein. If anyone should be afraid of that prospect it’s you. It leads to communism and the entire population being relegated to ‘commoner’ status. You wouldn’t be above the fray from the rest of us.

Don’t tell me you’re not a little afraid of the prospect of my premonition. I’m not hearing any rumblings yet about it, but the media is always a bit slow on the uptake. Give it a couple of weeks.

I can picture you and your master celebrating nothing in the ballroom though…struggling with your coordination in doing the YMCA dance… doing those alternating double fist pumps that Bill Maher jokes about… although it wouldn’t be worth the price of admission…and there will be one.
I'm just alarmed that he does whatever he wants without going through the proper channels. I mean checks and balances are there for a reason. I can't stand this dictatorship mentality.

Yep, absolutely this. It didn't go through congress, no bids put out, just a decision he made and went forward with it. Very different than how other presidents have done remodels or changes, from my understanding.

Yes, three large companies that have and will continue to get, very favorable tax treatment, I'm sure. No matter what party you affiliate with, if you follow the money, it tends to reveal that it wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts.
Well, if you are not happy how three major companies are getting treated compared to yourself, don't complain about it, invest in their stock and you too can participate in dividends and capital appreciation.

Note: Not one penny of taxpayers' money is being spent on the building for the WH ballroom. ...that will be used by future presidents and their guests... Former President Obama built his personal basketball court... during a recession... with your tax dollars.... to be used only at that time by BARRY BOY AND HIS FRIENDS... You do see the difference???

Total lie. The Obamas paid for it with their own money along with other improvements. That BB court doubles as a tennis court. Where else was he supposed to go, the local park?

Name ONE dem who supports the building of the ballroom. Just one…

We’ve all heard the dirt from Melania’s ex bestie who wrote a tell all book. Melanie wouldn’t and didn’t move into the White House until the toilet and shower the Obamas used were ripped out. This friend worked on the Met galas and took the heat for mismanaged funds for his inauguration gala which she agreed to help them with. Then Melania cut her off.

There will be mismanaged funds with the ballroom too. I find it hard to believe that he’s got that much in donations for that monstrosity. He’ll use campaign funds, donations from other countries or other off limit funds, mark my words.

Encouraging people to invest in companies who form monopolies and pay to play is a really stupid idea. Most ethical people won’t invest in entities who employ these methods on principle. Like they can be trusted anyway, lol!
@joanna81 Thomas Jefferson made renovations to the White House and there was no formal bidding process. So did JFK and Clinton with no formal bids. There have been others as well.

@Minime Since most Dems can't provide an objective definition of what a woman is and refuse to acknowledge that boys have natural advantages over girls and shouldn't participate in girls' sports, I guess it would be tough to find ONE Dem who supports the building.

You did ask for one, just one.

Senator Fetterman (D-PA)

It is in the NY Post.

The companies behind Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are not monopolies. In under 30 years Amazon has been a 2,100 bagger. Not many beat that, but like you said most ethical people won't invest in entities who employ these methods on principle. Many would say that the current CEO of Berkshire is highly respected and ethical. He is the conscience of capitalism and Berkshire holds AMZN and Google. He said that he doesn't own Microsoft due to his relationship with founder Bill Gates choosing to employ ethical caution.
He's a very wealthy old man in the very last remaining years of his life. He's trying to build a legacy - of course as a monument to what? LOL -each of us here could have our own interpretation of that.
He believes he has nothing to lose at this point. Most autocrats find absolute power to be absolutely addictive.

PS/I am enjoying the fact that Ronald Reagan has risen from the grave to provoke a good old fashioned American political smackdown... U.S. politics have become pure theater.

When we give up the need to be special, life becomes special.

Of course, there's Colonial Williamsburg in VA, a restored colonial village. John D. Rockefeller Jr. was a key benefactor who funded the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, which began in 1926. Rockefeller's significant financial support and leadership enabled the massive project to reconstruct the 18th-century city and transform it into the living history museum it is today.

I guess this effort should have never been taken on by a wealthy US businessman?

I'll give you this...Rockefeller was closer to a pure monopolistic leader than any of the other individuals or corporations listed in this thread. Closer, but still not a pure monopoly.
MM: your logic makes no sense in bringing gender identity into a conversation that has nothing to do with it. Sounds like a bad baiting attempt. For the record I’m against men in women’s sports, which disproves your dumb argument.

Everyone knows that Fetterman is a nut job. He’s in office b/c there’s been no alternative. He took over for Manchin in trying to wield his power for attention and groveling. Nobody respects his opinion on anything and nobody is going to grovel for his votes before he’s shown the door. Maybe when he gets out of his sweatpants people might be willing to acknowledge him. Bad example.

Each president is given a budget for improvements. I believe it’s around $100,000. None of them tore anything down. Lincoln’s wife hosted a gala for 600 people. There’s plenty of space. He wants something he can slap his name on and call his own. He’ll name it the Rump ballroom and hunker down in it when he has to leave - and he will have to leave.

Buffet invested in those companies long before they bowed down, and I’m sure he’s thoroughly disgusted. All of these donors are in for a rude awakening. Just ask Disney.
Who knows, maybe Kamala will make a proclamation regarding her burdens from the new Ballroom in 2028:

"With this revelation, I, Kamala is unburdened by the burdens of being burdened. And through this unburdening, the burdens of being burdened are no longer a burden. But being burdened to the point where burgeoning burdens become a burden unto themselves, the burden of being unburdened becomes itself, a burden."

That's right, salad for dinner! LOL
That’s right Mavi, it will be Cali rule in 2028. The ballroom - after a thorough fumigation - will be hoppin’. All the legit Hollywood and music stars will be there. Meanwhile you will still be repairing the battleship and mowing your ‘estate’ lawn. Lol!

Yeah, where are those people now?
It is the small people who are going to suffer when his Big Beautiful bill comes into play. Social Security and Medicare won't be around when I need them. I paid into that system since I was 16. I'm in my 50's now. I expect what was promised to me, yes, I am ENTITLED to those funds.

As for the demolition of the White House, there is no one to say NO to him. The Capitol Building is empty since the government is shut down. I would love to know how much of the government's money is being siphoned away into private bank accounts under the name of Donald Trump.

Another thing, what makes you people think there will be another election.
I see that BDS is still going on here. Seek professional help.
