Any Fans of Downton Abbey ?

I never expected to enjoy watching The Gilded Age....but I turned out to enjoy it so much
that I talked myself into watching Downton Abbey and now I am deep into that.. I know it's been around for years and years. I typically enjoy complicated suspense shows...mysteries, complex drama, etc...
but I've now surprised myself.
They do have a soap opera kind of air to them, which normally I would avoid like the plague,
but the stories are rich and complex and intertwined with history, much like
my most favorite show of all: Mad Men, which also was a surprise to me.

Anyone enjoy these? or have others to suggest during the cold months snuggled under blankets, cup of PG Tips tea along side?

oh and PS - side note - parts of The Gilded Age were filmed nearby, so I like that connection too.

I like English period dramas or any movie drama adaptations with English actors. Ana Karenina, Brideshead Revisited, Chevalier, Sense and Sensibility, and the first 2 DA movies. The last one was kind of boring without Maggie Smith.

The nice thing about DA is you can pick it up at any time. I mostly prefer movies and miniseries which have become extinct. Classics like The Thornbirds, East of Eden, and others. The last one I watched was Mare of East Town. Now there are too many series to keep track of, along with the actors who are all supposedly famous. Too many weird themes with zombies, violence and mental disturbances.

The English dramas tend to have good looking actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Extra bonus points go to him for taking his wife’s last name. (who is older and not very attractive) (Sorry but it’s true) He’s also a sharp dresser. I like movies from the early 2000’s with Jeremy Northam, who was also very hot. The Winslow Boy is one of my favorites that he was in. It’s a great movie for any generation and based on a true story.

Remind me to never show Minime a picture of myself.. Seriously, I get so pissed off at those stupid reels and videos that make fun of the spouses of celebrities and say unkind things about them because they aren't pretty.

I do like the English period dramas, they have good cinematography, and above average acting. They make some of these American TV shows look like crap.

Try watching "18 Wheels of Justice" sometime, it'll make you sick. Between the bad acting, very bad directing, and the worst cinematography I've ever seen, even worse than old scary movie special effects.

Ok, OK! Don’t show me a picture of yourself! I haven’t seen the videos you speak of and can’t imagine what kind of unkind things are actually said. My comment about her shouldn’t be a reflection on you unless you make it one.

Although I applaud ATJ for being a feminist, I don’t like his butt ugly as sin wife. She plucked him out at the ripe old age of 18 to be in her movie even though she was 23 years his senior and they have been together since. Her career tanked after that but he managed to become a successful actor in his own right. They married when he was 22 and she had a couple of kids to seal the deal. Maybe her eggs were starting to dry up so he had to become a father in his early 20s. I give him credit for honoring his commitment. The cougar probably still can’t believe her luck!
ouch, what prejudices do you hold against men and their looks? or just not enough info given to see that prejudice does or doesn't exist in some of these statements?

It's been an ugly weekend of violence all over the world.....perhaps we're getting worn down.

Kindness works...in thoughts, words and action

I don’t know what you grouses are talking about. I suppose if you are looking for a reason to be insulted you will find one. For one to be personally insulted if I should comment that someone else isn’t good looking is a bit ridiculous. I’m not going to cater to everyone’s baby feelings. Sorry. It seems more like a reason to find fault and pick each other apart, ala Real Housewives. I hate that shyte. Leave it to you BF to try to make it more than it is.
As far as what I think about men’s looks - it’s really none of your business. Bringing the world’s problems into it is a bit melodramatic and frankly, laughable. I don’t care about your judgement. You think you’re the queen bee here. You couldn’t even stay away when you were on your ‘silent retreat.’ Lol!
What did I miss? Who was on a 'silent retreat?'

And I will take offense, I'm an ugly old woman. I'm short, fat, and I look exactly like my father with brown hair and boobs. I complain often about being invisible, but there is a reason for it, folks don't like to look at me.

You saying that a man can do better because his spouse is ugly is exactly what I'm taking offense at. And insinuating that she trapped him by having his babies is even more disgusting. I get that you're jealous, that you think you would be a better spouse.

I've often thought that I would be a better spouse than someone else, but it's not me that gets to make that decision. And I have no right to criticize the choices other people have made.
