Desert Southwest

Next week, will be flying into LV, then renting a car. We'll be roadtripping through Death Valley, Zion NP, then heading south to do sections of Route 66 (Kingman, Seligman, Oatman, etc) then heading down to Yuma
and making our way back.
Need sunshine, warmth and change of scenery.
Not overly concerned with penny pinching, thankfully, but I am who I am, so I will be checking
the Upside app for gas deals, checking Presto for any quick MSing in AZ, CA and Utah. I realize some of these areas are quite out of the way lol.
Only food apps I use are Dunkin for coffee and McDonalds for breakfast sandwiches.
I am not familiar with western chains, except I-n-O, so if you have suggestions, please let me know? or maybe Del Taco? lol. Any apps you use while on travel.
Same country, but sometimes feels like another world lol

If you are in Flagstaff for a meal you want to go to Salsa Brava.

Have synthesizers, will travel...
I will be in Flagstaff next month! I will keep this in mind too!

Enjoy!

Been eating there every time in town since the late '80s.

Their extensive salsa bar went away with COVID, but everything else is same as it ever was.

We were there this past November for the GF's first time and she was duly impressed.

Wave to my beloved desert and other surviving beautiful places! Tell them I miss them...

The desert is so awesome...in many ways.
Last night, we spent the night in a small town, it reminded me of an old movie.
It was the kind of town where they roll the sidewalks up at nightfall and immediately turn the neon on.
Lonely and quiet except for the trains passing by every half hour or so.
The kind of motel where you drive up to the door of your room. The motel desk clerk tried to convince me that current climate change is the result of a new planetary alignment.
Yes, the fans of Art Bell are still stumbling around lol.

We ate at Salsa Brava! Thanks for the recommendation!
If you’re going to go with a chain, Del Taco is so much better than Taco Hell…except for the Crunchwrap.

If you were going into Los Angeles, or even just the San Fernando Valley at any point I would suggest The Bear Pit Barbeque on Sepulveda by the 118 freeway, and the original Cupid's Hot Dogs at Corbin and Winnetka in Canoga Park (might be Reseda, but I spent a LOT of time there growing up). There is also the original Tommy's Chili burgers on Roscoe Blvd in Van Nuys (I have been dreaming about and craving Tommy's for a couple months now). My favorite thing at Del Taco is the cheese quesadilla with green salsa, and the Macho Combo Burrito (I think they renamed it, but it's still just as good), we got a fancy brand new Del Taco here in AL a year or so ago, so I don't miss that like I did.

That driving plan sounds like a LOT of zigzagging.. I would love to see Zion again, it's only been 50+ years since the last time I was there.. And I love the desert SouthWest, but I just can't take the heat anymore. I'd go in the winter in a heartbeat. If you go on the river, don't forget your lifevest.. one of my very best friend's son died the other day trying to rescue the hat that blew off of his head..
We went to Del Taco twice while out there....call me boring, but my favorite thing was the tostadas.
My siblings had tacos lol.
It was A LOT of driving, but I enjoyed it...we don't have those wide open spaces here on the east coast, so it feels like more of a thrill, I guess.
The scenery was otherworldly, particularly in the areas with Joshua Trees and all that area around Willow Beach and Emerald Cave on the AZ/NV border.
I think I found my favorite town ever - Boulder City, NV.
We did have to switch up our route somewhat - they were in the middle of a heatwave out there while we were there...a record setting one - so we had to work the schedule around it.

I love the west....for a visit smiling smiley May try to return to California in August.
Thanks for the recs/suggestions.
