Beyond Hello
Beyond Hello advertises a sunglasses shop with a required $50-$75 purchase and optional return. In the store I went to, after spending 20 minutes forcing an interaction, I finally asked what their cheapest pair of sunglasses was. I was told the $89.95 Oakleys. That is $20 over what I had budgetted for the shop and could not be done. I asked for a card and they didn't have one so the sales associate wrote her name and number and the sunglasses I had looked at on a sticky note. Because I remembered that only a pair of sunglasses would be accepted I made no purchase.
Today I have in my inbox new emails advertising this same sunglasses shop with a required $50-$75 purchase and optional return. Other than the editor question I had on my last shop for them, I've never had a problem and have found the purchase shops easy to do. The return took no time as well. To say they're being dishonest is a little harsh and unfair.
I don't understand why you would not have completed the purchase, waited the required time (only 30 minutes or so) and then returned the glasses. They are not falsely advertising shops when it is made clear the purchase is not reimbursed AND you are not required to keep it.

GTG - Agreeing with Lisa here. I don't get why you are saying "False Advertising"? Those shops are a breeze! You knew you had to purchase a pair of glasses going into the shop. It says it in the emails & on the shop board that YOU MUST PURCHASE a pair between such and such a price and then you have the option to return them. So you simply put them on your credit card, WAIT the *required* 30 minutes (for every shop, easy to hit up the food courts or outside vendors; have a cup of coffee, jot down notes), and then returned the glasses.
I wanted to be 100% clear of the requirements, so I just looked up the guidelines. They specifically state:
"The required purchase should be made with a CREDIT card. An immediate refund WILL NOT be given upon returning the merchandise if you use a check, cash or debit card."

Just a little clarification regarding returns and credit cards. When you use a credit card, the credit is not immediately put through. It could take a couple of days. However, the shops are pretty easy to do.
I've done plenty of shops for Beyond Hello and they're one of my favorite companies to work for. I've never had an issue with them not paying, and they always pay promptly.
For the sunglass shops, I put it on my credit card and return them the next day. Most of the time the credit appears the very next day. Never had a problem.

Good point. However, it does vary depending on the credit or debit card, the bank and the time of week you perform the shop. If you are heading into a weekend it may take an extra day or so. And before anyone says no debit card, as long as it's a Visa or MC they run it as credit. On one job I actually ended up getting cash back. The associate was new and had no idea how to do a return on my card. Man was I surprised when she gave me the cash, LOL!

It seems to me after reading all the posts that there are ups and downs with Hello.
Wouldn't it be nice if tey came on the forum and answered some of the the issues posted.

goodtogo, Beyond Hello is a reputable company, and the instructions for these shops are not misleading. You underestimated how much you might have to pay to do the shop, that's really the main problem here. I've done plenty of these purchase shops, as well as ones for other companies, and the minimum purchase requirement is just that, a minimum. I can't tell you how many purchase shops I've done where absolutely NOTHING is available for the minimum amount required. A lot of people do not do purchase shops because they don't want to or can't, which is perfectly understandable.

I have done these shops as well. Beyond Hello is very reputable and the instructions are clear. Use your credit card and prepare for a return.
I just turned off my e-mail notifications after receiving the identical posting within 57 minutes of the previous one and having the closest location almost 2 hours away. Actually today has even been a light one for them. At one point the other night I had 6 come through in less than 30 minutes. Right now they are beyond help if you ask me

I work for BH, I do not buy anything under the P/R sunglass shops. I think the poster is saying false advertising comes in where you cannot buy anything under the amount they state. I have done the shops (same) where there is no
purchase required, and have found glasses for 60.00. These are high end shops, not sure about having to pay 89.00. I just don't take those shops,
because I think returning glasses is a dead giveaway. I Iike many of their
other shops, especially the coffee ones....they have always been fair to me.

Irene -- It is possible that prices vary depending on the location of the shop. For example, a store located in Water Tower Place in Chicago may have higher prices because rent is more expensive. You cannot expect a MSC to know the prices at all stores. I've done the P/R and have no problem with the return. I always say when I got home my hubby wouldn't let me keep the glasses because I keep losing them. It usually gets a laugh.
I have never deactivated myself from any companies, but I'm going to from BH. I did a $5 phone shop which they claim was "never reported". When I received a late notice and inquired about it, I was told that "they are having problems with their system", so they gave it to another shopper. BS, I did my part and all they could do was rip me off of my time and effort. They admitted they were having problems on their end yet made no effort to rectify the situation. For $5 I would not take the time to sign up for a shop, wait for it to be assigned and not do it. This kind of stuff gives MS companies a bad reputation.
For the most part, I like BH. I did have problems with one of their "Target" shops. The "target" was never able to be found. Even with her provided schedule, she was never in the location that she was supposed to be in. So, on my last attempt, I spoke with another employee in the area and was told that she was in the store, but "downstairs." I immediately contacted the scheduler to see how I should handle the situation and was basically told to shop the target in whateve rlocation she was in. So, here I am searing high and low for this woman. Never found her. After being at the store for an hour and a half and on my fourth attempt...I gave up. The sad thing is (for me at least) I love the client's product. I was really looking forward to interacting with this individual and even purchasing some items. Never happened though, and wouldn't ya know. After all of that drama...I still got a flake citation. Whatevs. I'm staying away from those particular shops. Target shops are annoying and generally don't pay enough to play cat and mouse with someone repeatedly.
I actually like Beyond Hello. I have had no problem with them. My first shop with them was high-end prescription glasses. I think I got paid $120 but of course the glasses cost way more than that but there was no way I could have gotten that kind of discount. The rest were eye tests or something. I have not done much for them lately simply because I have not checked for available jobs. I decided not to accept anymore email offerings to avoid too much clutter. Overall, I have no complaints about this company.
I always ask for help if not approached. I always have a question in my mouth . SA's always try to answer. i really like Beyond hello and have found them really reasonable. i get mostly 10s but once I got an 8. I figure it's because i did not follow the sequence they outlined. I couldn't because S.A. turned to help someone else in process. Oh well. I learned something there.

The editor sent the report back a second time. I returned the same report, without changes, and a note telling the editor exactly what paragraph and line to read for the instructions. BH accepted the report with no changes and paid me. However, I never got a score or an apology. I stopped working for them as much because I can easily make the same amount of money doing much shorter reports for other MSCs.

Then, it went through and my shop log showed "complete".
If it weren't for your post, it's unlikely that I would have noticed the problem. I'm sorry your report did not submit but am thankful for the information your situation provided.

I think everyone has "off" days, shoppers, schedulers, editors. It happens that 2 people can hit the same bad day. Then promising business relationships end in the indie contractor business. Too bad because it wastes a lot of time and energy for for everyone. Susan
