maybe it's not an overpayment. Ask them what the money is for before returning it. Maybe it's a surprise bonus.

No, no, no. Consider it a bonus and say nothing. If it's an error, they will contact you and you can say, "I'm sorry. I thought it was a bonus and I already spent it. Thank you. I really appreciate it!"

They sent me an email within hours of the overpayment yesterday.

Darn! You had to throw that little detail in didn't you? So much for my great idea. Maybe you had better go ahead and return it. You might have a hard time convincing them you spent it in such a short time.
Hey wait! You could tell them that you just met a homeless shopper and you felt sorry for him and gave it all to him. That might work.
Try that and let us know how it turns out, Liz.
No. I sent it back. It's just not the first time this has happened. I am just wondering why this keeps happening.
I wish I had known before you sent it back. I would have suggested you consider it the amount I had to chase them down for. It took them months (MONTHS) to pay what they owed me, minutes to resolve an overpayment to you. Wowsa

If it makes you feel better (and I know it won't really), the last round of overpayments I notified them immediately and it took weeks and weeks for them to figure it all out. So they are not any better with their own money than with ours.

I think I would have said that for scam purposes we are told never to send money. Maybe they are telling client they are paying you so much, and then after they put it in your account, Take some of it back. Client would not know that they asked for some money to be returned right?
You are working on the assumption the client knows and, more importantly, gives a rat's ass what we are paid, LOL!
