SELF ASSIGN: Why do some msc's refuse to do it????

If a shopper has a high rating and has completed multiple shops for the same client with high scores, why do some msc's refuse to engage in shopper self scheduling??? And mnay times rotation are not an issue either....

Many Thanks

Wish I knew the answer to that one Arch! I'd love to self-schedule as many jobs as possible.

I guess the simple answer is: "Because they can!"

It would be much more convenient. And the busy schedulers would have those shops off their chests sooner too.
I would LOVE this....and it seems like it would be easier on their end as well. I hate having to wait for assignments, especially when it takes days. Sometimes I just assume I did not get the assignment, fill my time with another assignment and then learn that I DID get the assignment....and I end up driving my a$$ off trying to keep everyone happy. Argh!!!
I dont like being suspended till the last minute, waiting for a response about a shop status either. Because that restricts my plans for the day, and I so like to plan ahead!
I wholeheartedly agree with the above posts. But I do not think that is refusing For whatever reason, that is how their companies are set up. While I don't like it, I guess they have that option.
Some msc's don't allow self-scheduling for some or all assignments for a variety of reasons.

--It is at the clients request, or they use this as a sell to the client. "We don't just let any person assign themselves assigments. We hand pick the people to do them."

--Sometimes it's because the msc has had bad experiences with allowing self-assigning. Shops that are self-assigned are more likely to be cancelled no matter how seasoned the shopper is.

--tight deadlines. They have a tight deadline and they want to make sure it is given to the most experienced shopper with the least likely chance of it being flaked on. Also, scheduler may have a bonus coming at a certain target and don't want to miss it because a self-assign shopper flaked.

Yes tech a very thoughtful and interesting explanation of self assigning. Notice, I am not disagreeing with you about anything.
Thanks for the post.
@cynb: nothing wrong with disagreeing with anyone, as long as it's based on facts and not fiction : )

Totally agree, trying to make peace, but I guess we will continue to disagree re what is fact and fiction. That's OK
Self-assign could be limited to those with a 9/10 rating over a period of time.
There is one company I work for, no one can self-assign, and have trouble getting the jobs I want. My instinct tells me they have so many shoppers, they want to assign, and give the shops to shoppers that (perhaps) have
done favors for them, they have many shoppers, so, they might just choose to use shoppers at their disgrection to get a varity for the clients. I do prefer
self-assign, you are able to plan your time, not wait under pending forever.

When I was scheduling, it was more about balancing the workload to the editors.

If a small MSC has just 1 or 2 editors on staff and allows self-assign, editors may have 100 shops to edit on one particular day and none on another. Since getting the edited shop to the client in a timely manner is important, balancing the load on the editors is a big part of making that happen. It also doesn't make sense to pay an employee editor to sit around all day and doesn't keep freelance editors happy when you have nothing to give them.

That is also why schedulers push for shops at the beginning of the month when editors are not busy.
Makes sense, but then why with some MSC's are you able to self-assign, is it just policy, # of jobs and variable situations. For instance, if you've had one to many (just kiddin), and do a poor job with report, having the ability to
self-assign puts them in an odd position, having to remove you from self-assign. That happened to me at a dealership (nightmare). I was no longer able to self-assign for a year, now I'm again able to, having re-proved myself. MSC's are slow to change, so, if policy was no self-assign, I guess changing to self-assign can be a project. I self-assign with Intellishop and
others, but, Beyond Hello is a stickler, no self-assign.....I'm overthinking, haqlf let you and half don't. MS life would be so much easier if they all did the things the same way, self-assign, pay periods (within a month), decent pay for required time of job.....so much to improve!
