It's happened to me once and I was paid. The instruction was to look down the street to see if there was another station - there wasn't. I reported it closed and I was paid. It was the red and blue gas station.

And the one I was paid for was the red and yellow station. So, CanadaMommy..was yours that didn't pay the green station?

did you not follow the shop instructions then? the items are to be individually scanned. it's clear in the shop instructions.

what is the basis of your complaint?
I have shopped with Maritz and they are a pretty good company. That said, I would not do the bank shops again because of the amount of time that has to go into each shpo.

When you do both parts, each document you receive HAS to be labeled with the shop id number and the question number. This way they can confirm that you are indeed not duplicating the use of any of the documents. You should see how much stuff I had to recycle last month.

I was on the phone with a scheduler at one point and she gave me an example of why they insist on shoppers doing this. They had a couple of shoppers who took on 60 of these at one time. So when they submitted the scanned materials, they would scan them once and use them for all 60 shops ... including the dated document! So when they scanned the dated document and submitted it, that goes into the shopped employee's record that he/she gave the shopper the wrong document. The scheduler said that there were a few employees fired because of this ..... and when there was verification requested, the scheduler said that the shopper never even went to most of these locations to do the shop.

All that said, I stopped doing those shops because of the time it takes to scan, crop, and resize all of those documents. Even with the bonuses it's not worth it.I will, however, do other shops with Maritz once they get other accounts other than the gas and bank shops.
Vinc,
My complaint is, after this was explained to me I was told to redo it and I did as I was instructed. If they were not going to accept the corrections they could have just told me that to start, rather than having me re do it all to their specifications and they took the shop without so much as an email. When I called they had not looked at the revisions before taking the shop. I redid it because I had committed to do the shop. Believe me the $12.50 was surely not worth it.

i'm unclear. did they use/accept your shop or give it to another shopper?
Barbara,

I think I see the problem. You stated:

It did not make any sense

This is business and often contractors are called upon to take actions that appear, at least to their minds, illogical. The instructions clearly state that although the literature may appear identical, each should be specifically marked.

I've only completed the phone/branch shops when you've been bonused, as, in my opinion, it's too much time/work at the stated fee, which is higher than last year, but Maritz is a reputable MSC; it's simply that one must carefully choose which shops to accept.
Vinc,
I'm not sure what they did, but I do know I did not get credit for the shop without any explanation it just disappeared. When I called they really didn't say.

they would not have used your shop if they did not pay you for it. if it suddenly disappeared from your shop log, then it is likely that it was assigned an entirely new ID and assigned to another shopper as per the contract. the original shop ID was likely deactivated and replaced by an entirely new shop ID, but i'm not sure. they are not obligated to allow you to correct the shop if the guidelines were not accurately followed.

it sounds like one of the lower-ranked phone people was attempting to work with you, but that their choice may have been overridden by upper management due to deadlines. they are not intentionally trying to slight you. these are just common communication lapses inherent within any corporation. the principle of the matter is not that you were wronged. the principle is that you can learn from your error and improve for next time.

if i were you, i would just take the $12 loss and learn from your error. you can consider it maybe as part of your training as a shopper. you can further contrast your $12 loss against the $100s or even $1000s that you can make with them in the future upon gaining enhanced proficiency. hence, you can do 10-100 more of these shops, rendering your current loss as miniscule by comparison. you're concerned over spilt milk with a small mess to clean up, but your frustration ought merely be momentary. i pay my mortgage with these shops, for example. a couple of my shops didn't have bankers available, so i had to make two trips, but i'm overall satisfied with my workload.
Vince, well said. I read again and again folks getting frustrated not getting a few bucks and then writing the company off. Always remember - it is never their loss - it is always your loss.

Suck up your pride and continue shopping. Even after 10 years in this business, you make mistakes and get frustrated for not getting paid. Move on.
Low pay--no way! I have tons of much easier shops that pay a lot better. Maritz: one and done...never again.

Maritz is absolutely NOT a rip off company!! I have been working with them for over 3 years, and I have done over 700 shops for them. I have never had any issue with being paid, in fact, they have contacted ME in the past for shops that I forgot to invoice. They pay well and on time. Everyone I have had the pleasure to work with at their company have been friendly and helpful. I am sorry to hear that someone didn't get paid, but in my past experience, the people there will go "above and beyond" to help with any shop problems.

fully agreed. smiling smiley

some of the complaints that i'm hearing about maritz in this and another thread seem to fall back onto two things:

1. shopper error - the shopper doesn't follow written guidelines, and then blames the company for something else to deflect attention away from the shopper error. it's ultimately best for the shopper to address their own error first, before resorting to blame against the company.

2. low pay - the shopper performs the first shop lacking time efficiency due to an initial lack of skill/familiarity, not realizing that skill/familiarity will increase in time. whenever i do a new and unique shop for the first time for a company, it naturally takes twice as long. but after multiple shops, it gets quicker. this is not so much a pay issue with the company as it is a skill/speed issue on the part of the shopper.

I do a lot of image audits for Maritz. They are pretty easy and at times I can get them to bonus the shop because of their desperation to get the audit done. For easy extra money, I can't complain.

That's why I do these shops. They take very little time out in the field. I take as many of these shops as possible per month so that I get a nice check and then it all seems worth it- to me anyway.
No Vince
mine was NOT shopper error. Location closed. No pay.

my apologies. smiling smiley

i had overlooked your post. i will remove my original statement, as it does not pertain to you. i'm perhaps confusing two different threads with each other that i'm currently reading.

I told everyone this company is a Rip Off! This just confirms my earlier post.
my complaint about Maritz is you get these anonymous emails and dont know who to answer or if your answer is just going into a black hole.
In my case it is.

I sent an email for the scheduler and it was never forwarded to them

I get a call from Maritz and the girl doesn't give me her email to send the info to, instead telling me to go back to the program and knows nothing about my previous email with the info.

Not good.
The bank shops for Maritz are my favorite. I usually spend 2-4 minutes on the phone then about 5 minutes inside the bank. I write the job number on each document I receive from them, take a pic of each document with my cell phone and upload the required pics into the report where they are required.

Fastest shops I've done. I'm doing 6 of them next Saturday. Will likely take up 2 hours or so of my day (including reports) and I'll make $75. That's great money for a new shopper smiling smiley

AND they pay fast.

$37.50 an hour good for any shopper!smiling smiley

it takes me a bit longer than that, but i'm still well satisfied. smiling smiley
I have done Maritz bank shops, and whenever a scan is not acceptable, they just have me go back and do it correctly.

I usually go over everything they state about the problem very carefully. I am naturally a task-oriented worker, but have learned to be a detail-oriented worker.

My friend works at a beading company-- I could never go over the tiny little beads, it's just too overwhelming for me. Maybe the Maritz bank shops are just too overwhelming for you.

I hope you find other shops that work out, but Maritz is a good company.
Just got my Maritz paycheck in the mail for the first half of June. Just under $200.00. Maritz can rip me off all they want. ;-)

lolol, hehe. ;-) one more trip to the bank.
Maritz is a good company to work for. And yes, the $12.50 does seem like a small amount for all that scanning, but they allow you to do up to 60 of these shops a month, and if you have the time to do that, it can really add up quickly. As far as all the scanning they want, it makes sense. They are trying to make sure that you do all the work they require and get all the forms they require. To make sure they know that I have gotten all the forms they want scanned, for the forms that I receive from the personal banker,I write the job number in black sharpie on the top of those forms. For the forms that I receive in the mail, I write the job number on those in blue sharpie. That way, Maritz sees that I have not duplicated the scans. Occasionally, I will inadvertently submit the same scan for two different photos, but they email me right away to let me know. I fix it and there's no problem. I think what your issue might have been is that you are new to Maritz. They don't have a proven track record with you yet. Once they do, you don't have a problem with them. I've been with them for years now and I don't have any issues with them. Keep trying, they are certainly worth the effort.
