EPMS/Ellis computers stolen.

Just received a letter in the mail today from them....dated June 15??...stating that their offices were broken into April 27 this year and they had ten computers stolen including the accounting computer "which maintained employee files". They state that the computer was "double password protected", however, they are recommending calling and having a fraud alert placed on your credit files.

Oh peachy! If I recall correctly you get one 90 fraud alert without all sorts of paperwork and a second one was going to be a bureaucratic nightmare. Even the 90 day was a PITA because I could only authorize access to my records from my HOME PHONE so had to run across town to home to authorize and then run back to complete my transaction. This was supposed to be easier if I had the "code" they supposedly sent me but never did. . .

I have a question.

You wrote that these computers maintained "employee files". Since we, as shoppers, are not considered employees but independent contractors doesn't that indicate that our information is not on there??? Or did they say that all their files were on there??
They still have our mystery shopping info such as profile on them. Speedmark was the other company that this happened to. I did put a fraud alert on my credit after that happened but realistically, I doubt anyone stole these computers to get info on clients/shoppers/employees............they prolly just wanted the computers. If you put a fraud alert on your credit......I believe it stays there 3 months........but be aware,,,,,,,,if you go to apply for credit anywhere.....it will be a hassle..........put your cell # down since if you put your home # you might not be home when they call to verify if you are applying for credit. That is what happened to one shopper.........they were getting a new cell phone.......and when they called her home to verify she was applying....
....noone was home..........what a hoot!!!

That was me it happened to Bugs. It was not highly entertaining when it happened sad smiley When you place the alert you are supposed to get notification that it has been put in place and supposedly that has a code so you can override it when you actually want your report accessed. Unfortunately my paperwork had no obvious code for me to note and then was misfiled so I could not be remote and override.
Why in the world wouldn't these companies post that this has happened to them??!!!

I think it's the decent thing to do. I have excellent credit and worked very hard at keeping that way. I am at a loss as to why these companies wouldn't advise their shoppers with a post on MSPA or on the various shopping forums.

I'm sure that if it happened to them they would be furious!!
I went to fill out an app and it said they ONLY accept SSN not EIN numbers. Umm no thanks, are they crazy or something? Their files get compromised then they have the nerve to say I can't use a EIN instead of SSN.
I signed on with EPMS in May, and have always gotten paid on time. They pay twice a month, and I've not experienced a problem. I just they would pay with paypal instead of check.
