Companies Charging if you use PayPal

Hi,

Just got a couple of email telling that if you have your pay deposited into PayPal they are deducting 2.3% of your pay because - PayPal charges them to deposit the money in my account. I checked some of the MSC I registered with and noticed that some do and some do not deduct. I called PayPal to inquire and they said "Yes they do charge companies to deposit into PayPal customer accounts." Does anyone have experience with this? Is this the norm for a MSC to pass along a fee to the shopper?

One shop I sign up with, I quickly deactivated the account because their charges. Thanks bunches, Savana23

I use paypal for several msc and do not get charged. The msc picks up the fee. By the way, there is a standard fee + a percent for each payment. I found that out the hard way as I receive payments for the soccer meetup that I run through paypal. Usually the players give me cash but last month one paid the $5 quarterly fee thru paypal and I got $4.45. That is a big 11% cut!
Many of the companies will allow you to choose between payment methods so if they are making you pay the charge I guess you have to see if you can change payment methods or figure it as a cost of doing business when deciding whether to accept jobs.
I just saw using paypal charges us 1.00...never had that happen, so, I requested DD....I believe this was with STN.

I'm registered with about 150 companies. I don't shop with that many during any one month and some I've never performed a shop for. But PayPal is my favorite payment method. I've never been charged for a PayPal payment by any MSC. Irene is correct - Second to None announced some time ago that they would charge shoppers who wished to use PayPal but that direct deposit would have no charge. I immediately changed to direct deposit with them. I don't recall seeing another others that threatened to charge me for my PayPal payments and certainly to date none have done so.
I also noticed STN was charging a $1.00 for PayPal. I was asked to use that manner of payment as a back-up in case there was a problem with my bank; I declined.
I've seen a couple offering PayQuicker and an alternative, like PayPal or direct deposit. Currently the only one that offers only PayQuicker with no other option is ACE.
The only times I have been charged by Paypal, the MSC apologized and refunded the fee. With PayQuicker, I see that there is a 50 cent charge to transfer funds to my bank account. Using the funds with their debit card is free, but adds another PITA layer of bookkeeping for tax purposes, and may not be worth it for really active shoppers.

I always opt for direct deposit over checks or Pay-whatever when there's a choice. It's so much easier. But I've never been charged for the one's that require the middle man PayPal.
It seems when a company only pays with PayPal they absorb the fee, when the company offers more than one alternative, they pass along the fee. Since both STN and CORI offer direct deposit as their free option, it works for me.

Unfortunately, unless you're American, CorI will only pay you via Paypal. CorI deducts money from one's pay to cover the fees, which makes them cheapskates in my book. Between the low US dollar, the Paypal conversion fees and CorI taking a bite, I'm left with about 75% of what I'm owed from CorI's already ridiculously low fees (yes, I know that if one waits, the fees go up). Because of this, I haven't shopped for CorI in over 1 year.

From their website:

PayPal Payment Fee Notice
Due to the transaction fees imposed by PayPal, Corporate Research International will be deducting the fee from your payment to cover the costs. The fee is 3% or a maximum of $1.50.

For example if you earn $10.00 you will be paid $9.70, with 30 cents covering the PayPal Transaction Fee.
