For now no name

Since it is still fresh I am not going to use any name...but I think I lost my fee again (3rd time since I started). What sucks is that it is a company I have always been working fine. I cross my fingers and let's hope...

I had a job scheduled to start at 10am today. Before 10am I check my email while driving to the location and I see the reminder. I do my job, get back into the car and when I reach a quite area I check my email again. At 10.34 the MSC sent me a message saying the client canceled the request and the job was no longer needed. I cannot enter the report because it has been blocked.

sad smiley the IC contract should not be a one way thing, they should start saying the Contractor and the Company...not only the contractor MUST...

I would contact the scheduler and request payment, explaining that your appointment was set at 10:00 AM and you performed the assignment per the appointment. At 10:34 AM, the company e-mailed to notify you of a cancellation but it was after you completed the assignment. By documenting the time of the company's e-mail and the time that you completed the shop, I think you can satisfactorily show that the shop was canceled after it was performed and I think it is reasonable to expect payment. I would be ultra polite and tactful when I said it.
That is what I did Austin and I still have the emails to prove it. That is why I did not put any name on it...it is more a venting because I am furious (just to be exact, the location was 60 miles away from where I live).
I assume they are checking the times on their emails.

But we all know they have the power and if they say no all I can say is "sigh...".

Good luck to you but, no, you can do many things other than just sigh. It all depends on whether you are willing to accept the consequences.

Well, the company kept up to its reputation after all...

Response: Hi Gianluigi, Our apologies, on occasion the clients will cancel the inspection. I have asked if they would still like the data since you have already completed it. In the meantime I have issued special payment for you for the project. Thank you for understand and again we apologize for their error.

But BusyBee, I still would like to know my options you were referring to...just in case something similar happens and the MSC is not as good as this one.

There is only one that I know uses the acronym PAD instead of bonuswinking smiley

Here's the deal, and this works for me on all companies:

Like them, I don't forget. I don't accept "closed location fees" unless it's spelled out in the contract. I might let one go if it just closed and maybe it hasn't gotten back to the franchiser. Mistakes happen... Heck, I might let it go if the company is decent. I had one where it was closed for 2 months prior to the assignment. Reported closed. Got the "closed" reduced fee. Followed up and they paid more to it, but not close to the original fee. I also had another one that was closed on a day it should have been open. Also, reduced fee.

The rest of the fees is an open amount on their account, and it's been collecting finance charges every month since. When the time comes for the axe to come down, out comes the fangs.

Sorry, you pay me to observe the location. I observed the location was closed. Pay me, please.

Thankfully, it's not the MSC that's discussed in this thread.

Now you know how Walmart would have felt if they had knew you had borrowed and used one of their cameras for a secret shop you were doing and then returned it. Don't feel good to get jacked around does it?
First, I would follow AustinMom's suggestion and broach the subject of payment politely.

If the MSC refused politely and sympathized, I would try to persuade it to change its mind. If it was not persuaded, I would seek to negotiate some other deal that would benefit me -- while I had the MSC's sympathy and the memory of this event was still fresh. For example, I might ask to be given priority over other shoppers in terms of job notification and assignment.

If the MSC refused with a bad attitude, then how I would respond would depend on whether I wanted to work for them again and, if so, how badly. PAD would be one way to go. Sharing details of what happened with other shoppers AND naming names would be another. Sharing details of what happened (without breaking ICA) with the public would be another possibility.

NP. I'm sure other shoppers have ways to deal with MSCs, too. I have some more ideas that are nastier but have never used them and don't think it's a good idea to plant them in another shopper's head. =D
Agree with BusyBee. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. When the sugar works, you never have to even think about the vinegar.
Boy that really blows. I would be so ticked off if this had happened to me. Like the others said I would be taking it up with the MSC to get full payment.
jpgilham, that was my first thought when I got their email. And yes I was mad even after, when i wrote this post.
But deep inside of me, even though my head was full of idea on how to deal a pay back, I knew i would have just "sigh...".
That is one job lost...was it worth losing also the rest of the jobs that MSI gives me? In my opinion not.

They made a mistake and they pay for it. Same did MF in the past. Kudos to those two companies.

No reason to be ticked off - he just asked for his payment and the MSC responded that he will be paid. Only get ticked off it you don't get what you want when you smile and ask for it.
I may have misread one of the posts. You did get a $50 bonus for that 120 mile drive, right?

No, that wasn't a padded job. Simple pay, but part of a route. I meant that my intention if not paid was asking $50 bonus for any future job...of course I couldn't do it if I want to work LOL.

I don't know about that. I've gotten an extra $40 or $45 out of them and didn't have to drive half as far. And remember, I'm in an area with quite a few shoppers.

They just called me to propose me a FF shop in the same town...had I read your message before i would have tried for the big buck (even though ususally big buck is for inspections).

Weird...this is the very first time they call me, usually only via email.

That is when the fun begins. When they start calling you it is always a sign to ask for a bonus. They called me on that bonus shop and it was "what will it take to get you there." Their jobs are priced too low for the work anyway. Add in a rural area and difficulty filling them and you now have a perfectly good reason to ask for an expect a bonus.
