Trendsource -- Should I Make the Leap?

I am not registered with TS but know they have LOTS of shops in my area. I know I need to get an ein to register with them.

I have read and re-read about the EIN brouhaha here, searched the web & my state's DOR sites, etc. and am tired or all the research. I just want to decide -- "Yes" or "No" ASAP and to get on with it.

So, hopefully, all you wise folk will drop in with a "Yes" or "Just say NO" and that will be how I decide.

Thanks everyone . . . Bob

Yes, they are a good msc with good clients and worth signing up with...

EIN: Just print the internet forms and US mail them in.
Mine was issued very quickly by the Feds.
I absolutely prefer this option over divulging my social security number.

BUT Trendsource can only now be accessed via Google Chrome, so before signing up be sure
your computer has no issues with Google Chrome. Not sure why they implemented this change...
You can get an EIN online much quicker. Also the Trendsource site works fine for me on IE.

I just completed signup with them. I have not had any problems with IE on the site and was just there about an hour ago. I didn't know anything about having to use chrome.
I don't do a lot with Trendsource, but I have had no issues with the company. I recommend you jump right in there.

I could not do assignments until I received an EIN. How are you able to work without it? Is that something they just started just recently?
The EIN requirement just came about a couple of years ago and the response was underwhelming. So far shoppers who were with them before have been able to continue to shop although at least some no longer have self-assign privileges. I have been reading that brand new shoppers have no choice and cannot get registered without one.

According to the page to which I was directed, Trendsource no longer supports either IE7 or 8. If your system won't accommodate IE9 or later AND you've no interest in other browsers, you can't use their site.

The grocery assignments require a deli purchase; I don't eat that type of food. In addition, the reimbursement is quickly eroded, as the items at the client's store aren't, as a whole and comparatively speaking, inexpensive. As an example, my bill at Aldi's will run approx. 30% less for comparable items.

Their interest in shoppers acquiring an EIN is purely self-motivated; I don't criticize that matter, but it in no way benefits me.

As pay goes, Trendsource is in the lower level considering the time and work involved with their shops.

Therefore, logic requires a NO reply from me. If, however, the shop is your usual stop for food AND you eat deli items AND you're impressed with the amenities the market provides AND your computer's operating system will accommodate their change/you're willing to download their required browser(s) AND you desire to obtain an EIN AND, finally, this MSCs pay is acceptable to you, then YES.
Yes, if you need a quick paying MSC and one more MSC to give you more choices. Some jobs don not pay enough for the amount of the reporting required, some are a breeze. Out of 1,000+ shops I may do in a year Trendsource counts for dozen or less.

I'm just curious. What is the difference to them?
Better to deny your existence if there is a problem.

Yes and yes I have an EIN#, can self-assign jobs and love that they pay twice a month. So glad I didn't listen to the few that told me not to get an EIN.

Yes. I use an EIN, much safer than putting my SSN online.

I got my EIN in about 5 minutes online.....but make sure you use the government site, and not some fly by nite site that will charge you for getting it. It is free to get directly from the govt.

I use the EIN with most companies instead of my SSN.

Trendsource has multiple grocery store shops, and some of them are quite lucrative. Depends on where you are and if you the 'good' chain nearby. They also have a couple of QSR's that are regional, and reimburse for decent food as opposed to the golden place.

Also, the onsite business inspections are easy and usually pay decently, particularly the full inspections that require a sketch of the property and buildings.

Always ask for PAD, or distance pay, if the location is not directly on your route. They have always approved whatever I requested, it just takes a little while and you can't self assign with PAD.
I'm an old-timer with TrendSource, and have not been required to get an EIN. I did lose my self-assign privilege. That cost me some healthcare shops, which I regret. I haven't missed the other shops, may be by virtue of what they have here. They still call me, offering PADs on other assignments. Some work for me, some don't.

I am comfortable providing my SSN on secured sites. Also, I monitor my credit regularly, just in case. I don't think an EIN would be problematic for me, though it has been for some. I just choose not to jump through a hoop for one MSC. If it costs me revenue, and it has, I have had no problem replacing lost revenue with work from other MSCs.
I have yet to understand what "hoop" people have to jump through to get an EIN?

Mert, last year they were hounding me for the healthcare shops. I waited until they were willing to bonus since their base was lower than the previous MSC and the report was much, much worse. My self-assign status was short-lived since they have so few things worthwhile around here and one of the requirements is completing a minimum number of shops.

bgriffin, The hoop is taking the time to get an EIN, albeit free from the IRS, and being aware that having one could lead to aggravation; questions from federal or state agencies regarding status, eligibility, and possible ramifications. Questions and resulting long-term hassle, have arisen from farm land, livestock, motorcycles and boats, that I have heard of, presumably, hinging on federal, state or municipality requirements.

Lisa, the healthcare assignments disappeared for me, undoubtedly to EIN shoppers. Do they have proven history, or are they unknown EIN holders? Beats me, and I don't care. They are emailing me for one-on-one healthcare assignments. I have two horror stories regarding incompetent agents, which led, literally, to months of inquest. Not interested, regardless of PAD.

Never heard of any of that. I got mine in 2007 in order to open a checking account for a business I have. I've never used it for any other purpose until now and I never reported my taxes using that number, always done using my ssn.

No clue to what they are offering to EIN versus non-EIN. Prior to even starting them last year I was receiving phone calls to qualify and then phone calls to take shops. I got a huge bonus for one.

I've spoke to my local municipality several times about the obligations of my home-based business and EIN versus SSN. Their advice was to forget about the EIN if I didn't want to get one and had no legitimate reasons for the it (like having employees or having to collect sales tax) and not worry about business licenses, etc. Starting with the business license it just goes downhill from there until my various taxes and fees would make it virtually impossible to continue.

Lisa, they said you didn't need one but did they say you had any other obligations if you got one? I think that was Mert's cause for not getting one and I have never heard anything even remotely suggesting that I would have any obligations after getting an EIN that I did not have before. I got one simply because the bank I used at the time required me to have one in order to open a business account in my business name as opposed to a dba. Until I used it for Trendsource I've never touched the number since, and it has caused me to have no extra obligations.

It is always wise for shoppers to check the regulations in their own are because taxes and fees are unique. My municipality charges for business licenses and inspections. My county collects personal and business property taxes. If I am not careful everything associated with my business could be subject to business property taxes. And when I say everything, I mean everything; furniture, office space within my home, printers, computers, video equipment, etc.

This is not directed at you, but it has blown my mind when people don't realize rules and regs vary so much between states and cities. Even before MS I took the time to investigate everything while considering another business opportunity and after starting MS I went back and asked again. It was the recommendation of the department regulating business licenses for me to continue this way. If someone is going to make MS their business it behooves them to investigate everything.

Right, my question was simply as it relates to getting an EIN. Getting an EIN should change none of the things you mentioned at all. That's my confusion. I guess I'm just not understanding Mert's concerns at all.
