I like Bare, I really do, but...

On 9/12 I received an email thanking me for my shopping efforts and it said that I should be receiving payment in the form of a check in a few days.

I waited, waited, waited. The check did not arrive. So I called on 9/17 and a very nice young lady explained to me that the checks were cut on 9/15. Then they were released to be mailed on 9/19 and it would take 7 - 10 business days for it to arrive.

Doesn't that seem like a long time for mail to get from Virginia to CT?

I signed up for direct deposit and I hope that'll make things faster.

USPS is insanely notorious for losing mail. Not to frighten you but all it takes is someone dropping your envelope in the wrong place, misplacing it in the sorting facility, etc, and then you have a very delayed piece of mail!

I do not really see this being BARE's fault unless there is proof that they didn't send the cheque when they said they did. Definitely going forward, use direct deposit. It offers peace of mind smiling smiley

Contact BARE by the end of this coming week if you don't get it then.

Maybe yes, maybe no. I work for a large state agency in Texas and we mail a lot of correspondence, including checks. We also receive a lot from various parts of the state and outside the state. Sometimes mail between other cities in Texas takes only one day. Other times it takes 5-6 days. I always tell people to expect mail in 7-10 days to cover the unpredictable mailing time.
I usually do say 7-10 business days to cover all possible delays. I have an expectation that it will arrive much sooner than 10 business days, although I have often seen it take 7 - and I am only talking about mail from one city to another in Texas, not mail that goes from one state to another.
I mailed a bunch of Similac checks to a woman who'd responded to my Craigslist posting for them... She lived 45 minutes away and didn't want to drive to pick them up, so she sent me .46 through Paypal to cover the stamp, and I mailed them.

They took 8 days to get there, and she called me when they did, and mentioned that the inked stamp over the postage said Charlotte, which is 5 hours away. I'm guessing outgoing mail gets sent to a sorting facility (In my case, Charlotte) then sorted and put on the right truck to get it to where it's going.

I also recently ordered some stuff on eBay that shipped through USPS, and from tracking it on the site, even though it was only coming from MD to NC, it for some reason was routed to IN, then KS, then Atlanta, then here.

I am set up with Direct Deposit with Bare but somehow I get my pay by cheque. Only once did they send by DD. They said the job originated in Europe so it was paid by DD.

And yes, they are not referred to us snail mail for nothing. I live in Canada so it is from 7-15 days by mail. Recent payment from Bare was received about 10 days by mail.
I do not mind the post office. One reason is that they will come and ring the bell if I have a package. I have had several experiences with the other two large shipping companies where they just leave a package out on the street. By the time the person gets home the package has already been stolen in some locales. They sometimes will make it good but what a pain that is! And I have had packages delivered this way several days before the tracking said they were arriving so the receiver was not even looking for them yet. In the case of delivery to a multi unit apt bdlg. with a locked front door or mailboxes, the usps has the key to these and can leave your mail or package indoors in a fairly secure place. The other two do not have access to these buildings.
I read something several years ago that it now took longer for a letter to get from New York City to Philadelphia than it did when Benjamin Franklin was Postmaster General. Dunno if it's true or not but it was interesting. As for mail, I never seem to have any problems getting checks 2 to 3 days after they're mailed out and that's from pretty much anywhere in the country. As for Bare, I've always had DD with them as far as I can remember but I will say their payments in that form show up like clockwork.

Today, I finally received a check that was mailed to me by Bare. I got confused by their email notification about my mailed check because, all of my other checks have been DD. When this one was mailed I did some searching and realized that the cut off for DD is $500. Anything over that is sent by USPS mail. I prefer DD, this check took a very long time to arrive.

I have issues with that particular MSC. I don't do work for them anymore. Sorry, but if they can't pay me by the next month...not doing their shop again. They pay, but in my experience it can take almost 90 days. It's not worth my time to hunt down a few bucks. Yep, $30 is only a few bucks.

They're routed through the Bermuda Triangle.
