I googled the name and found a place in Garden City CA as a listing on a secondary website. No website for Richard A Cole Enterprises itself came up. My guess is that this is fictitious. If you have a website to sign up I would be pleased to do a little checking to see if it looks even vaguely legitimate.

There are many scams out there. If these folks contacted you out of the blue, chances are it is a scam.

If they indicated they had work that would pay you up front, very good chance it is a scam because this business does not work that way.

If they have sent you, unsolicited, a check to do work and wire transfer on funds by Western Union, DO NOT DEPOSIT THE CHECK. It is 99.99999999% sure it is a scam and the check will bounce leaving you with bounced check fees at best and a huge debt in your account at worst if you fall for it and transfer on funds.

If they are asking you to sign up with them by filling out any personal information at all and emailing it to them. It is 99.98% sure it is a scam.
Hmmm. was listed on the internet as a 'new' mystery company and i signed up with them but surprised when I got a cashiers ck via Fed-x for 3500 and my 'mystery job is to take out 'my' 400$ and send wire to another mystery shop. In my experience if it seems too good to be true then it most likely is....Bummer too....
Thanks for the response.

There are lists of legitimate companies on virtually every shopper forum. Ours is in the first post of the first thread in the Mystery Shopping Company Discussion section of this forum. Other folks have posted various lists they have found elsewhere in the New Mystery Shopper section as well as elsewhere. I haven't taken a look at them but I assume they came from reasonable sources.

Run, anytime you are sent a check, told to take some out for yourself and wire the rest elsewhere, it is a scam.
Any company that will actually pay you in advance is a scam. If you look at many company's sign up page, they tell you that a company may be using their name and if you receive a checkor western union wire, do not cash it. The whole idea is for you to deposit the check into your own account and it will bounce. You will be liable for owning the bank money.
