I heard about them but can't remember much. I don't think it's something that is true....
I think this is a scam using the name of a real company. I found this online:

On the company's website, they have a fraud alert posted. It also states that all of their emails come from a specific email address. You may want to check and see if that matches the one from which you received the offer.

Pinecone Research is very legit. All of the legit emails come from Karen Scott. Anything else is a scam.
They pay $3 per survey and also do product testing. No mystery shops.

This email did come from Karen Scott but after doing some further research it is definitely a scam.
the sign up link reads pineconeSresearch.com, it is a scam
I am signed up with Pinecone, I have never been offered anything other than surveys.
I get one or two of those emails per month. Anything from Pinecone over $3 is spam. $3 is their well-known per-survey rate.
I forgot about PineCone. I was signed up with them years ago. They are really good.
I just located a link for them via Google and registered again. We will see if they send me any surveys. I hope so.

Do lots of the surverys and you may start getting offers to be a product tester which is pretty awesome (or so my dog tells me since I have yet to receive anything for human consumption).
Pinecone is very legit but doesn't have mystery shopping. It's probably a scam, I got one similar a few months ago.
I enjoy pinecone surveys make about $6 -$15 a month. They do occasional send a product to test. As stated they do not do mystery shopping.
Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
I liked them a LOT when the pay was $5 per survery, then they lowered price AND sent way too many "chances to win" emails...
Maybe it's just me but I'm on a points system with them....

I just signed up with pinecone the other day. I had found their sign up link on penny hoarder site. Before signing up with pinecone, had referred me to them, when I had gone to the site, it said that you can not sign up directly at that site, but that they advertise through other sites, and if you see a link you can sign up that way. I sure was glad to find the link, and look forward to doing some work with them.
Phx602, yes you can cash out with Paypal. The Paypal link is in the bottom three (I think) prize options.
You have to click like a million times in their rewards panel (Featured Awards > Cash Option) to get it, but it's literally free money, so I'll do it. They prefer Paypal but you can get a check in the mail instead. FYI I don't think you can go back to a check after you put in your Paypal email.

yes cash option is buried but am glad you found it. I preferred old non point system but I just let me points build and cash out every so often for a bigger amount. I know my points and cash is safe as Pinecone has been around forever.
