I have been mystery shopping for decades. I have a degree in Journalism and am an award- winning writer. I get REALLY steamed when I receive an 8 out of 10 score with no explanation except my comments were *mostly* well-written. I am also miffed that
I am told after the fact that I was to include a picture when it was not requested in the original paperwork. Seriously?

An 8 pays the same as 10. Intellishop is not necessarily looking for a journalism degree. You can punctuate and spell correctly and describe an interaction verbatim from beginning to end yet still not write the perfect mystery shopping report. The reason is most of us don't think to regurgitate those questions, especially the ones we feel are self-explanatory.

It doesn't matter how well you write, what matters most is that you provide what the MSC is looking for and it fits the writing style their expecting.

As LisaSTL stated, you're being paid the same, regardless if it was an 8 or a 10.

From personal experience with IntelliShop, I've received a couple 8's here and there, but that hasn't hindered my relationship with the IntelliShop schedulers.....

With that being said, your report wasn't rejected, so you're getting paid. Just take note of their comments for future assignments, and then move on.

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.

I understand your frustration, especially given your credentials but I think there are just some MSC that won't give higher than an 8 regardless of whether you are a Pulitzer Prize winner.

.... But IntelliShop isn't one of those MSC's. Once you adapt to the style their looking for with their shops, you'll be fine. Hell, even an 8 is fine and won't damage your reputation...

Different schedulers and editors also seem to have different expectations. I did two oil changes at the exact same dealership, four months apart. I got a 10 on the first one and a 6 on the second. On the second one I had to be contacted twice about things that I knew I wrote about. I asked the scheduler how I could get such different scores when I wrote the same things for each report. I never got a response, but....I still shop for that company. I have a 9 rating, and I can live with that. Who knows what goes on in the background at these companies. It can be a new editor who is nervous and doesn't know how to grade properly. Or maybe the client complained about something ridiculous---who knows! For the most part, I think as long as a person has an 8 rating, it will ensure more shops.

I did an oil change shop. If they contact you, the highest is an 8. They wanted to know why I put one name on the report while another service rep's name was on the invoice. So I added, "I asked the service rep if he was the one I spoke to when I called this morning. He said that probably was Dan and his name was Dave.

I had instructions for a shop that read like it went through beta translation software. I accept that they are a, "Don't do as I do do as I say" company. They have the jobs, I want the jobs. So I got a 6 for the above. I was paid a nice bonus.

Are all intelli shops self assign? The ones in my area seem to be. When I apply, it says I do not qualify because you need an average score of 8. I have only completed 2 shops for this company. One was scored a 10 and the other was 8. So it seems my average is ok. The comments on the 8 were that the editor did not like that I formatted some of the narrative as bullet points.

Do you have to perform a certain number of shops before you can self assign?

I'm with you! I am a retired foreign language prof and work p/t now as a columnist/assistant editor for a national newspaper. I have been a mystery shopper for seventeen years-----love doing same and it is said that writing can ward off the dreaded Alzheimer's---I'll keep you posted on that one!

Back to the topic----- I have received the same comments and grades you mention--from this company---10s from all others. At first I was rather perturbed and wanted to ask: "What did you think were errors, etc. in my report?" Then after a few really snippy remarks from the "editor", I finally decided to consider the source...and stop working for the company. Ha! Their loss. Left to wonder, though--how many Ivy League grads with multiple degrees does this company hire as editors?.....Many literate retirees out there!
Sigh. The company's loss......... :>

I see all these are within the last month. I have gotten the same problem, listed the reason I put a no in the survey in the comment box. The proof reader asked three times why I put a no, I answered twice, I finally responded to intelli-shop with the answer, scored an 8 on that one. Just got one back after it being turned in since the 11th of March, same proof reader, scored a 7. This is a smaller community and a lot of us know each other, we have driven the pricing up on some of the shops by not doing them, one that take an hour for next to nothing. That is what we will be doing to intelli-shop if they continue to score the way they are scoring, $20 for a cup of coffee sounds nice

At the top of your shop log page your average score is listed. Yours may not be an 8 yet as many companies start shoppers out with an average score of 5, which goes up (hopefully!) as you complete shops.

Agree with Tarantado and LisaSTL.

I have done numerous assignments for Intellishop and have received a few 8s here and there. It's mostly because I don't address all the "no's" or something like that.

To me it's things that seem self explanatory, but I'm learning.

I get mostly 10s and some 9s from Intellishop. I started with getting 8s, until I realized what they were looking for (my very first report was a 7!). It doesn't matter, I got paid just the same and I still get all the jobs I want (I think I've gotten denied for 2 jobs total from them). Relax
