Beyond Hello Cell Shops - Credit Score?

I see these lease shops going for huge bonuses and I want them ALL! I do know that they have to run my credit and I am worried that this is hurting my credit score. Is this considered a "hard" or "soft" check, and would anyone do more than one of these at this risk of lowering their really good credit score?

This is a definite Hard Credit Check and without-a-doubt has an effect on your credit score.
My "credit check" is still on my credit report, 2 years later, from doing a cell phone shop..tongue sticking out smiley

Never again will I allow them to run one. (my concern at the time was I would not be following the guidelines and if they wanted to run a soft check, let them. Now? NO Way!) It seems to happen quite frequently that they want to run one and some don't want to help you without the credit check.
I have found that it is very difficult to get anyone in the cell phone department at Walmart to talk to me without "running your credit" first. I don't let them. Some have told me that that is what they are trained to do, and then they give the box (sealed) to the customer and tell them to call customer service to set up the phone. The display models are dummy phones, and for one shop, I was had to ask them if the manufacturer's rep come in to train them. One guess as to the answer.

My question is how do you find out your credit score for free? I own my house, already refinanced to today's low rates and if I ever buy a new car it will be with cash so I really don't care if my score takes a hit.
If you have a Discover card, they show your credit score on each statement. Otherwise, there are free credit score sites like Credit Karma which you can use, but be sure that to accept any non-free add-on services. Also, you can request a credit report for free once every three years (I think it is once every three years) from each credit reporting company, and there are 3 of them, so one per year. That may not actually be your FICO score (FICO is a trademark and service of the Fair Isaac Company), but it will be close.

If you do not have a mortgage and do not use credit cards, you may find to your surprise that your credit score is low because they don't have enough data about you.

Here's how I got around the credit check that an AT and T cellphone store wanted to run on me. I gave the salesperson an incredulous stare and I said slightly loudly - without crossing the line - "Is this how little basic human dignity means to the AT and T brand? You won't even tell me about these smartphones so I can make a decision if I even want to sign up for AT and T before you run a credit check? Is not my human dignity worth an informed decision to the AT and T brand?" Then I started slowly walking away to the register - as if I were looking for a supervisor without verbally bringing it up - and the salesperson followed me and told me what I needed to know to complete the shop. Something I have learned - when a salesperson is not being cooperative, throwing the world "brand" around with a wide eyed stare and tying it into "human dignity" (something that is seriously missing in most workplaces) can get you incredible results. The first time I did this I worried a little that I was coming off insane or at least over the top - but since it got me results, I've used it since and it's not 100% but it's helped me to save some shops.
