Bare Audits

I have been working for five years, once a month, to audit four stores. I hardly ever have any mistakes. The person that is proofing the shops keeps sending back twelve to thirteen items to re-check. With four shops, this takes more time out of my weekend. I asked for more money to cover this and they are not playing ball. I haven't asked for more money in five years. When I started this five years ago, I never had to re-check prices. I ask why and was told that the prices were questionable. I looked on the past sheets and the prices were the same or within twenty-five cents. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for letting me vent!

That is truly annoying. If you were new to the shops I would wonder if you were mixing up the 10 oz size with the 17 oz size or something but it sounds as though that is not the case. I assume you want to continue the audits so can't complain too much, but if they pulled that re-check again and refused to pay extra I would either ask for enough more to do the visit in the first place to cover a revisit or stop doing the visits.
You've been doing this 5 years, they are asking for rechecks on 10-12 items every month, and they continue to give you the work? This tells me that either you are doing them too cheaply to begin with and they are ok with 10-12 mistakes per month or they are not mistakes, it's just them getting extra work out of you without paying additional compensation.

Either way I would ask for more. They can either get someone who doesn't make "mistakes" or pay me for the work I'm doing.

It isn't specifically stated, but my impression was that this month was the first occurrence of being sent back to check and that it was on more than one location. That sounds like a new editor who has been told that prices that aren't the same as last month should probably be challenged.
It seems I had an assignment once that involved checking prices and an editor had trouble with some of them. In the end it was because she was in an area with a much higher cost of living and couldn't wrap her head around the prices being so different.

Wow. That is, like, one of those triple-facepalm moments....
