Have you been video shopping? Who have you shopped with so far?

That may depend on how much training and experience a shopper already has with video AND with the kinds of long interactions that are common for video shops.

Some are more willing to work with a beginner who may not have taken any video classes and does not own their own equipment.

I'd also like to hear what video shopping companies people like to work with. I've worked for MCP and Shadow Shopper. I like both. I own my equipment. Prior to shopping I did covert video for the insurance industry investigating insurance fraud. I can remember and play out very complex and extensive scenarios. I'm pretty good at this. I'm looking to work with challenging companies.
By Shadow Shopper I assume you mean Shadow Agency? Instant Replays stopped pay shoppers a couple of years ago although I think they are still trying to recruit new shoppers anyway. Many got their money only by threatening to file a complaint with the AG in the owner's state.

That sounds interesting...shopping for insurance fraud. How do I sign up for those opportunities ? thank you for responding.
SS4U, is there any particular reason you are asking questions yet ignoring our questions? If you would answer mine, I would be happy to tell you some more video shopping companies.

Sinclair has some video shops in certain areas of the country. The scheduler is wonderful to work with whenit comes to setting up routes.

The OP has been a forum member for a tear. That's time enough to learn how to use the "search" function to find posts about video MS including MSC names and reviews.

Why would they stop paying a shopper, of what benefit is that to stop paying all their video shoppers? Their going to get nasty PR from websites like MSF where reputable people like you and others can blast their conduct. I do not understand their rational because someone like you Lisa does not make mistakes on their shops. What is the end-game of screwing your best shoppers hoping your going to pack up and go away?
Gros,
The president of that MSC just spent the money other ways. His staff also got stiffed from what I hear.

Which could be anything ranging from a gambling addiction to just simply not knowing how to manage cash flow in a small business. While I am not trying to defend not paying shoppers in the least, especially considering I was one of the ones who had to threaten legal action, I also think sometimes we are too quick to judge people when they do not pay. Often it is not because they are a bad person or did something "wrong", usually it is simply a case of being poor at managing money. For 6 years I ran a single person business with yearly sales around $250k. I had no experience managing that kind of money and eventually lost my savings and my house. It was not because I was a bad person, had bad intentions, or spent money on hookers and blow, I simply had no clue what I was doing.

I have to admit, through it all Mark was a nice guy. I don't know how long he was in business with IR before the non-payment began, but it seems like it was plenty long enough that money management was not the issue. At least not money management with IR. He has had some other ventures so it's entirely possible he was using funds from IR to finance them. He did maintain a real office for IR for some time. It was closed down a few years ago so everyone was working from home. After reducing all that overhead he should have been able to turn it around.

GrosMichel, I wish what you said were true. Like anyone else, I have made more than my share of mistakes. Luckily, not too many video shops, but there were a few resulting in no pay. A flubbed scenario, bad camera angles and at least two dead batteries. In fact, I've probably had more video shops screwed up than traditional. In part because there is more opportunity for reshops on most of the traditional assignments.

Lisa, I do not think I need to state which companies I am registered with. I am only asking for recommendations for MSC's that video shop. That's all. Why do you need to know this ?
I did that, and some of the companies are no longer in business, and that is why I asked for some recommendations. Is this a violation of TOS here to ask this question ? f it is a TOS posting no-no, I certainly apolgize.

A. Because you are asking for information and not giving any. This forum is a two way street.
B. Perhaps I have a great relationship with Great Video MSC and recommend them. You however are already signed up with Great Video MSC and can't seem to get assigned any shops from them. In that instance perhaps you blew a shop, or they just don't trust you, or whatever the reason. So then you go ask Great Video MSC why bgriffin gets all the good jobs and you don't get any and suddenly *I* have a relationship to repair.
C. It's just nice when asking someone for advice to answer their questions.

I put out a general request for recommendations, and not directed at one particular person. I thought such a question was permitted on this board and reasonable however, I still do not get the part about how I need to share the details of which MSC's I am signed up with. I don't see the relevance, but either way, I thank everyone for their assistance.

I see the relevance. I have to agree that, when the OP asked for general recommendations, it was okay. It's also okay for others to ask who the OP is registered with. Why refuse to answer? Is it not just as okay for others to ask your recommendations as well as giving you recommendations?

I would be less inclined to share mine if I was told "I don't plan to share anything that's mine; I just want a list of yours. Mine are not relevant." And that's perfectly okay. Share, don't share. At least you've been honest enough to say you don't plan to share. But I'm inclined to say "Go Fish."
I just met someone, for the first time in my city, that does mystery shopping. She asked me what companies I work for and I told her that I would share tit4tat and we'll grab pens and paper and I will give, and require in return the companies or shops that are available. We pinky swore not to share with anyone else in our city. I first asked her what side of town she lives on, because if she lived close to me I was giving her NOTHIN'!
I agree it is fine to ask. I also agree it seems more than a bit entitled to expect the answer after refusing to answer the same question yourself. What pissed me off the most was having the questions ignored. How hard would it have been to say, "I'd rather not divulge that information." A more polite statement even if the answer resulted in go find them yourself. BTW, that is also a much more polite statement than the similar statement that came to mind first.

Does it make more sense to you that she did not need to include in the list companies that you are already familiar with? It makes total sense to me to want to ask the question first.
