Maritz Bank Shops

Has anyone done one of the Maritz bank shops? They have been sitting on the board here since the beginning of April so was sort of wondering what was going on with them. I cannot believe these have not been bonused yet seeing how many of them are still sitting there.

My problem is you must live within 30 miles of the bank to do the shop. This is probably why they sit.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

They just won't bonus them, (I have asked a few times), unless they do not get filled. Then they will send out a new email, and the shops will show gold on the check new shops link.
Sbobgal, any idea how long they will let the program go until they do so? I bet in my area three have been taken so far. I mean $40 is not too bad to open an account, but cannot imagine they can go much further before they have to start getting them done.
I have not seen the open an account ones for this msc, I have seen the eval ones sit on the boards 2-3 weeks. Especially in the smaller cities/towns.
The banks in my area are $44 which is not to bad compared to other companies bank shops.
There is no deadline it seems, they are still there after two months now.

Edited to change "There is not" to "There is no" sorry about that, the shops have been sitting for months, its not your imagination.

I did a couple just because they begged me to as my first shops for them. In my area they pay a pathetic $9.50. To get me to do more will take more than their begging -- it will take their $$$.
I have not seen shops where you open an account in my area. We have the shops that start at 9.50. I really like grabbing a route of them. They are super easy, usually fast and easy to report once you get the pictures down. They also make good fillers for a day of retail shopping.
The $40 shops where you open an account and the $9.50 shops are two different ones. The $40 shops are on my 10 ft pole list and I wait for the $9.50 shops to get bonused. Most of the bank shops are now with a scheduler and I find that a PITA.I agree with CoffeeQueen - 10 minutes in the bank and a very simple de-briefing. Route and filler shops is correct.
I completed one of the $40 shops in April. It had a bonus attached to it. I enjoyed the shop, but it took quite a while in the bank. The report wasn't bad. I don't see any more of them posted. It might have been a one time only deal.

As a rule, I avoid shops that have the word "bank" in them and do not give me any clue as to what requirements are involved unless I assign one of them. I'm not referring to those quickie Liquid, Deposit, and ODP that Maritz has. I'm referring to those new $40 shops they have posted and give no information as to what requirements are involved in completing the shops.
Maybe I'm missing something here but If I open an account at a bank I have to use my real name and info. Therefore, even though $40 is nice, this is a one time deal as there would be little reason to open a second account. And I really don't want an account that I have little use for.
In my case, it was $60 and I opened a savings account since I already had a checking account. I was thinking of doing it anyway, so it worked for me. If I had no use for the account, I would not have done the shop either.

Read Lisa's post again, its two different projects and one is 1/4th the amount of time than the $9.95 data gathering shops. The data gathering shops flew past $75 last round in April, I can't justify doing them for less than $35.00 unless they are next door because the bank is always busy with a half-hour to one hour wait to speak to a banker. If you want to drive or go long distance shops the bonus has been as high as $80 or $90 so keep that in mind.

Data gathering shops start at $9.95 and jump toward's the month's end to $40-$100.00.

The checking account shops sit at $40 for months because all the shoppers either performed them or felt their time was better spent performing other projects.

I did a $40 account opening shop in April and it was easy to perform in the bank and very easy to submit the report. There was a suggestion that this was a pilot and that more shops including teller shops would show up later in the year.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I've been seeing the Account Open shops sit for awhile, but I just saw another one for the same bank that says under visit type is it "Inquiry Only". Is it as simple an inquiring about an checking/saving account? Anything to be forewarned about?
I don't even see them on the Maritz shop board. I only see them with the scheduler.

I just did an account-opening shop for $50 for another MSC, different bank. And I'm keeping the account; otherwise, I'd be tempted to take one of these $40 ones, 'cuz the bank is around the corner. But I like the account I just opened, and I don't have enough money to maintain more than the three bank accounts I/we have now. Sadly.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I suspect a program to recruit new bank members. The company had Overdraft and Credit Card shops forever. At first, it seems I had to have an account, and later it was changed to not a requirement. Then the shops were either delegated to another company, or re-contracted, and now the original company is recruiting new bank members.

It all seems like a lot of distorted business, and there were major changes with the original company awhile back. Incentives became more fixed, and when the schedulers call they often have no incentive to offer.

Today, there was an email from the delegated or re-contracted company offering bank shops for $50. Those got snatched up fast. It's all too mind boggling for me to understand, and so I usually pass.
I have to say that it may have been a smart move to delegate the shops to another company.
Years ago, when I first discovered the fun and exciting world of mystery shopping, I worked for a terrific company with easy reports, friendly workers, and good pay, but I also redundantly rescheduled certain cell phone shops, over and over, month after month. To my disappointment, the company went bankrupt, closed down, and later fragmented. I think if a company continues to offer shops to the same mystery shoppers, it is a sure sign of internal company troubles.

When the company shut down, it was one of two companies I worked for and I really felt that all was lost for me, but I worked hard at it, and found that life did go on.

just saying...
I recently did one in Southern California. Let us see how long it takes for them to pay. There were some minor corrections I had to do. The editor sent them at 10:10 PM in the evening (which I found strange). This is all I can tell you.
You can open the account without funding it, unless the guidelines say you have to. Just close it before the grace period ends. That's usually 30-90 days.

the payment is $40 but...there is a $10 monthly fee and they "recommend" that you keep the account open for at least 30 days? well, i call bs on that recommendation after all it is just a recommend not a requirement after all it's your $$$. and...even if you close your account immediately after opening it the bank will charge you the $10 fee so your fee is not $40 it's $30 which is 25% less than what you may be expecting.

is this another case of kinda/sorta misleading us????

Wrong bank shops. The ones in question start at $40 to open an account. The $9.50 shops are easy peasy information/materials shops.

I have three accounts with one bank and two accounts with another bank. Many people have multiple accounts with the same bank or various banks. Different accounts/banks meet different needs.
You have 60 days to fund the account and then the fees hit. You can close the account after 30 days.

@Sybil - very true! Even when I was with Crappy Credit Union, I had multiple accounts with them. The bank I'm in love with, I have tons of active accounts with them. And still going strong!

@LIJake - you can open and close as many accounts as you wish. I do that frequently solely for shopping. If asked, I just say that it was for my kid's school fundraiser or something like that. The banks don't care the reason, as long as they are making a sale.

I'm interested in these shops, but not for $40. I like to get closer to $100 to open a new account. That might be a pipe dream, but I don't need another bank account (or the $40) that badly, so I can wait and see how it goes.
