"I agree I should have contacted her......."

Really your own statement sums it all up. For you it was one shop. For her it was one of at least hundreds.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I recognize your frustration and your early attempt to save this shop. On the other hand, if you are sick it is up to you to instigate the conversation with your scheduler. Years ago in my son's classroom hung a sign that said, "Your mother doesn't work here. You will need to clean up after yourself." When I first saw it I laughed, but it was part of that teacher's whole classroom philosophy of having the kids be responsible for themselves, their assignments, their work and their striving for independence. As independent contractors we cannot expect our schedulers to be mind readers or mothers to take care of us. When they offer the professional courtesy of a reminder, it is just that, and does not mean that those who don't do so are rude or discourteous.
You may have been sick for a week, but how is the scheduler supposed to know that? It seems this time you were in the wrong for not notifying her and asking for an extension.

I agree I should have contacted her and told her I was sick but did that really warrant a "1"? Or is that too much to ask?

Yes, you had a chance to save the shop and you didn't call to let them know you were sick. Was it too much to ask for you to let them know what was going on? Instead you just flaked. I think it warranted a "1." The fault is yours. Accept responsibility.
Given the circumstances, you're lucky they didn't deactivate you. Honestly, a head cold prevented you from typing an email?
I'm not sure why you would expect the scheduler to contact you to see if you needed more time. It's your responsibility when you're ill and can't work--just as it is in the corporate workplace--to call in (or e-mail, in this case) and let them know you won't be in due to illness.

Thank you, all. Duly noted. My fault. I'm glad I asked. It keeps my head on straight.

I agree with the majority here. You received a warranted "1" because you did indeed flake out on the shop. Not sending an email or text for a head cold is equivalent to "the dog ate my homework" excuse.

A year or so ago, I was rushed to the ER right in the middle of my workday. I had a nurse take a photo of me in my lovely medical gown hooked up to an IV. I sent the pic to my boss at my FT job and to all my schedulers for currently assigned shop. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
I hope the nurse used your camera. Not fair to risk her breaking hers.

Who said it was a she?
OP, why did you completely remove your original post? This was a good learning thread for newbies and oldies alike. I wish some people had the balls to stand by their posts.

ETA: It looks like the title of the thread was even edited..."Cirrus360 gave me a "1" and cancelled my assignment." Again, it is a good warning for other forum members.

It's always good to think in terms of other contractors and your own expectations for them. If you hired a plumber or a painter you would anticipate them doing the work on the agreed upon date. You would also expect them to contact you if something prevented them from following through. I'm guessing if they were a no call, no show, most of us would not give them a second chance.

Communication is always important in any relationship. In mystery shopping, the onus are on both sides. And at times, one side presumes the other would know.
