JM Ridgway?

Hey All;

Just curious if anyone has had any experience with JM Ridgway? I just completed two of their $15 mattress store shops that popped up and then a quick shop at a small store in the mall to test them out - - then realized they handle a chain of local grocery stores for what looks to be frequently recurring shops that pay *extremely* well... But before I go down that road I'm going to see what happens to my three 'test shops'.

The mattress store and mall store jobs were very straightforward - - I like how the guidelines are actually in line with the survey and not a separate PDF - - though I get leery of companies who talk down to me like I'm a 5 year old and list all sorts of ways that I won't get paid, and seem to assume I don't understand basic instructions. (eg. Rather than just state “You must perform this shop alone." they rattle off 15 different examples of what this does not mean, to the point it sounds condescending, with plenty of red, bold and yellow text.)

So just curious if anyone else has had positive or negative experiences... I really liked doing the shops and the surveys were super straightforward - - and if the grocery shops are similar that would be great... But there's just a certain "tone" to the surveys that didn't feel right... Or maybe they just have had a bunch of really stupid shoppers in the past.

I've done about 30 of their mattress shops. Pretty easy. The pay ranged from $12 to $15. I was always paid. No negative experiences with JMRidgway. smiling smiley
Solid company that does more high end grocery stores where I live. The pay is better than other companies with grocery stores with a comparable report but sometimes they do not have a lot of grocery stores since they do not have a major chain - where I live anyway.
Done the mattress shops with them, done party store shops, and done a fitness center shop. Always pay per their terms 45 days. Usually review fast. Good company.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
This is a good company. I've done about 25 shops for them. I recently did a group of 3 shops at the same location that were easy and fast. The reports weren't bad. For a long time, I didn't sign up with them because of significant payment problems reported on this forum and on Volition. After shopping for them, shoppers always had to e-mail or call someone and ask for their money. Whatever the problem, Ridgway worked it out and I started seeing feedback that they were paying on time without requiring that shoppers contact them to ask for their payment. I signed up then and I'm glad I did. I like them a lot.
In my area, JMR only has storage facilities. All storage facilities are, IMO, simply boring shops. I have done a few when I have had other nearby shops. JMRs reports have been quite simple and their payments always on time.

Depending on how busy your store is, the Mattress Shop might take over one hour if your sales associate is slow in presenting two or three beds. They sat until the board showed $40 than Shoppers started grabbing them.

JMRidgway is reputable, people don't complain about them because their fair to shoppers and pay on time!

Awesome - - thanks ya'll. Will try one of those grocery shops smiling smiley

As for my two mattress shops on both occasions I was the only other person in the store besides the salesman. The first sales guy was completely awesome and made me forget why I have for years avoided shopping for mattresses in a discount mattress store... The other guy was ultra high pressure and made me remember all too well lol

I only had one issue with them on a shop for a mobile food vendor. The vendor was supposed to be at such and such park on a specific day. I called ahead of time and was told by the vendor that this was true. I showed up, the vendor didn't. The editor chastised me for doing a shop when I didn't know if the vendor was going to show up, as if I can predict the future or tell that the vendor was lying ahead of time.

Anyway, it only took a little fussing to get my shop paid.
It's been about 3 years since I shopped for Ridgway, but they used to be horrible about paying. I always, literally always, had to remind them to pay me. They would always pay quickly after I contacted them each time, but it was annoying and unprofessional. And they never had a reason as to why I had to chase payment. Perhaps they've changed. I hope so.
There was a time for about six to 12 months with the payment issues. Whatever the cause they turned it around and pay on time without contact. I was happy as they had been a good company before and are again.

My experience with them has been solidly positive.

I've found that for the amount of work required, the pay is generally better than what other MSP's are offering. And so far, in my three years of working with them, I've never had to chase payment.

I have to say that JMRidgway is by far my favorite company to work with. They pay fair and on time. (Granted its up to 45 days). The lead scheduler Nikki is the best at actually responding to emails and around the clock too. She also lists her phone number for urgent problems/concerns. I haven't had a problem that wasn't resolved in one email. I have completed over 75 shops for them in 4 months!! When they have jobs that are far away they are very good about giving a fair mileage. I love them.

I performed the assignment when it hit the upper end of their pay-rate only taking thirty or less days to receive payment. I liked the shop, they take some time if there are more than one person waiting for their turn to check out $8,000 beds. Good MSC to work with, no problems at all!
