Glad you didn't fall for it. Can you forward me a copy of the email? doug@nwlpc.com?

These emails do look legit. The thing that really concerns me is that the ones I've seen asks for your address (not a P.O.). Once they have your address and phone number there could be a problem.
I heard from one shopper who got threatened and harassed because they didn't cash the check as instructed. DO NOT GIVE OUT your address to anyone sending these emails!!
I always go to the sites from my log-in list folder, or if it is a new one, go to the site, without using the link provided. Google Chrome keeps the passwords, which makes it easy.
I will email you this email...hope your able to stop them. I also gave it to abuse@yahoo.com. dcrector Wrote:

One problem is the reporting aspect of these scams. Some shoppers, when they receive a check, either toss the check and don't report it, those who do cash and have their bank account depleted are too embarrassed to report that they had been had and others report the check to their local police department which does some good but you need to do more.
Besides reporting to the police if you have received a check, or cashed one, besides reporting it to the police you also should go online and report it to the FTC [www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov]
It is more beneficial to have 1 agency compile a list of complaints so they can get a grand total of those scammed. When everyone just reports it to their local authorities you don't have a centralized location. If the FTC gets enough complaints they will take stronger actions in tracking down these people.
One thing you also need to realize it that if you fall victim to one of thee scams and try to cash the check there is a possibility you could also be arrested for passing a counterfeit. check[www.consumerfraudreporting.org]

Good information, but shouldn't the Bank be responsible for cashing the check in the first place? The victim always gets the short end, and their credit is ruined. I'd love to work for someone (Doug) on this major problem concerning all of us.

I received an UPS envelope in May 2010. Inside was an cashiers check and letter supposely from UK. To send 2 people money from the $3800.oo cashiers check. I called local police and a tv station here. As a mystery shopper I was aware of this scam and did not fall for it. PLEASE DO NOT BE A VICTIM OF THIS SCAM !!!!
Please report this to the FTC. The local authorities won't do anything but the more complaints the FTC receives the better chances of getting these people caught. Also, unless you are asked by the FCT to send in the check, keep it in a plastic bag, DO NOT write void on it and only pick it up by the corner since it is possible, if it gets this far, fingerprints can be lifted. The same with the envelope the check came in.
