Maritz, why did you do me like that?

Today Maritz released their routes for their green client. I have had the same routes for several years -- they are small routes of odds and ends stores that don't take me too far from home and are easy to complete on weekends, since I am a teacher.

Today I got the email notifications that the routes are out. I went to check them out -- and my routes were swallowed up by huge 150+ location routes. Damn. There's no way I can do those. I made a counter offer, asking for my original locations, but don't hold out much hope. Time to diversify more -- Maritz has been the bulk of my income the past couple of years.

Sorry to hear about your bread and butter. Life is about adjustments and you'll make them.
There is life after Maritz. They were my first and only company for almost four years. Then they lost their blue retail client and I had to diversify. BOY AM I GLAD I DID! Making SO much more money and not driving nearly as far for so little.
Diversify - food for thought. I have gotten lazy and fallen into the Maritz web. Nice company, despite some drawbacks and nice people for the most part. And the bulk of my income. But perhaps it is time to diversify.

Same thing happened to me. No way can I go that far away like the in route. I countered, too. Like you I don't hold out much hope.. No way could I do that route.

Well, I wouldn't despair. Only once have I accepted those Green routes. There were always too many that were not anywhere near another. Some route! The thing was, there was always a second and then a third route offer. That's when i took them.
Now, I just delete all the e-mails from the first go - round and await the second and third offers. I'm thinking that you are in that part of Illinois and Iowa (probably quad cities area?) that has a lower amount of shoppers. You might continue to check the shop board. You may see those shops show up later after they dissolve the routes.

Good Luck!

BTW, for any home growers: this has been a great summer for my garden. I've been drying tomatoes and apples while canning and pickling others.

Une bonne récolte!
How do you get started on routes with Maritz? The most I've ever gotten is calling in and asking for 6/7 stations far from home, but the stations were close to each other. I don't think that's the kind of route you guys are talking about!
I still haven’t gotten my route assignment yet for green. They roll that thing out so slowly.
Cease, with this client they only set them up in routes. I think the way I got mine is one route that was taken by someone else required one location to be reshopped and it ended up on the general job board, I took it.
The next quarter their system offered me the whole route (via email) so I took it. Now they always give me first right of refusal and have offered me other routes as well

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
Typically, for the "Green" routes, I will get between 7 to 10 routes offered via Email. However, those same routes are offered to other shoppers. I presume they are FCFS.
Sometimes, when I would click on the link, they will have already been taken by another shopper. On others, they are so crazy and far apart that I would delete the Email.
Now, like I've stated, I just delete the entire group of Emails without bothering to look at them. Maybe its my loss, but I would rather await the dissolution of the not accepted routes and just cherry pick.
I got my route the same way hoju did. I always did the shops around in my area. They always sent me that route, plus some little routes. Last week they sent a route that ran from somewhere in Georgia to some that I always do in southern Illinois. All the ones I used to do were included in that route. There was no way I could do it, Like Karen, I countered for the ones I always do. I don't really expect to here back, though.
If they need a route shopper in your area they will probably call you and try to get you started. otherwise just wait for a flake to hit the board and take it. It will seem like a lot of prep for just one station but it will probably lead to some nice routes down the road. This is my favorite client to do. Sometimes they change the routes up and like the OP said, will throw your nice small route into some giant thing. It's just the way it goes. Don't put all your eggs in the Maritz basket. Do what you can when it's profitable and shop elsewhere the rest of the time.
Hmm. So they set up actual routes on Maaritz? Interesting. I've been trying for two months to just get a single shop with them (I applied for a bunch and was never assigned one and in a few cases, at the two week mark after I had applied it hadn't been assigned to anyone else either).
You can call them. What is probably happening is that you are applying for shops but shoppers in your area who can self assign are taking them. I don't think they pay much attention to pending applications. If you are new to Maritz they like to be in contact by phone. Call them and ask for a shop. Once you have done a few successfully they will let you self assign.

OH!!! Someone recommended them to me but didn't tell me that. Thank you!

Really. It's actually my least favorite client. The editors are the absolute worst and are unbearably nit-picky. I told myself after last quarter that I'm going to refuse them this quarter..... but I probably won't. At the very least I don't want to miss out on the annual Visual Standard visits.

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who felt that way. I actually discovered this forum out of my frustration on an assignment with them. For that reason I am thankful.

Well that is not because they are such fun. It's because they have the most locations where I am and I make the most money. Probably the easiest ones to do are the Teal, but those are spread so far apart around here that it's hard to make enough unless they are due tomorrow.
I always get offers for these routes and I have not gotten any emails this time around. I have never done the visual shops before and did over 300 of them last quarter, but I have not had any offers for this last quarter, and I really like to do these. Now I am worried! Before doing the visuals in June/July I have always done the other ones and usual get a whole group of offers. Looks like I will have to call in the AM.
I recently did a shop for Maritz, and my report was declined. I made a mistake in the report and take full responsibility. My issue is that I was not notified and my report was just deleted. I happened to go in to view my completed shops and noticed the one was missing. They don't have the courtesy to let IC's know when there is a problem. Had I not gone in to my account, I would have been waiting to get paid next month. There are plenty of other MS companies, and I agree, don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
I always keep an eye on my account after I do shops. If there is anything wrong, they put them on hold and you have to go in the report and fix what is wrong. Sometimes I get an email about it and sometimes not. You also have to put in and invoice to get paid.
Apparently they will be released tomorrow. I had an email so you probably have one too about testing.

I don't understand your comment.

If you made a mistake, how did you know you made a mistake? If your report was declined are you saying that they notified you that is was declined?

Did you try to contact them (call, not email)?
You are correct; however, in this instance they just deleted my report. There were no questions. It was just gone. I truly believe it would just be courteous to let their shoppers know it was deleted and why.
So like the OP said, the routes in my area all got compressed into two huge routes of 150 locations each. Beyond the problems inherent in doing such a huge route in such rural locations, there are locations in big cities where I have no idea what the area is like. Someone else can have them. Between this cluster$(# and MF getting all cheapo, I am going to go to work for some MSC's I've never done too much for. Time to change it up.

I have two highly bonused gas station shops missing from my Maritz list of shops I did the middle of September. I was never notified of an error. They were never placed on hold. I don't know what is happening with them. As far as I know they did not contain errors.
@Rooper7 how do you know it was rejected?

When they disappear, that means they have gone through. They never notify you unless they put them on hold and you have to fix what is wrong. I've worked for them for years and it has always been this way. Did you invoice them? You have to invoice the shops to get paid.

Idaho.

Mawmaw26, I figure I'll be paid for mine since there was nothing to indicate they weren't accepted.

I agree!

Call me anal, but......

For each of the shops I perform, I have a worksheet (or cheatsheet). Among other things, on that worksheet are spaces for Invoice Date, Invoice Amount and Invoice ID. All are in Caps and Bold. The sheet also has spaces for Incentives and additional pay for other reasons.
After submitting my reports for the day, I immediately submit my invoice, and fill out those spaces. Then the sheets go into my file for the month in which they were performed.

After receiving payment for those shops (direct deposit), I print out the DD report that shows how much each shop was reimbursed. I reconcile the period and, if necessary, call the MSC if I find an error (I cannot remember the MSC making an error).

Works for me!
