Why was your shop rejected?

"I told myself to quit you; but I don't listen to drunks." -Chris Stapleton
Doing my shop there was a family reunion. The hotel was so packed I had to stand up. I was supposed to order a drink and 1 food item at the bar but was only able to get the drink and was not able to order food at the bar because of the seating so I order the one food item in another part of the lounge. I was even standing up when I received the drink.I waited at the bar for an hour to monitor the bartender as required. Since I order the one food item in another part of the lounge where there was available seating my shop got rejected.
I even took photos of the lobby and lounge full of people to show how hard it was to sit anywhere
True Guest is notorious for this.....not a company you want to hitch your wagon to....
Ok, I hate that I even have to respond to these but I would hate for others to get the wrong idea about us. We rarely have to reject shops. I am not sure why shoppers feel that companies want to reject shops. We don't. We have only had to reject 2 shops in recent memory. One was because a shopper went to the wrong restaurant in a completely wrong hotel that is not our client. The other one was this one. The shopper is not telling the entire story. She signed up for a bar shop. The bar was crowded and instead of following our instructions on what to do if there was not a seat available, she decided to instead go to the restaurant and eat the dinner buffet. We are not contracted with that hotel for the restaurant dinner buffet so could not accept it.
Well...this kinda went the direction that often happens; Two sides to the story. At least the shopper got a drink and diner buffet out of it.

Adam (@FiveDiamond), you should apply for a change of screen name to TrueGuest! Your name is now confusing to anyone who wasn't around before the company name change...
I do not understand why the dinner buffet was an issue when I order the required one drink and one appetizer. I was told because I order the appetizer on the other side of the lounge and not at the bar I was rejected. I also had no choice to where I wanted to seat. I was seated by the host
It sounds like you ordered the appetizer not from the bar and that is a different client.
It sounds like you didn't follow the guidelines by ordering in a different location than the bar.

Hi Deneika,

As we spoke about by email, there was just nothing that we could do with that report since it didn't follow the hotel's guidelines. When shoppers make mistakes, we try as hard as we can to get the hotel to accept it. We are often successful. However, there was just nothing that we could do with this one.
So ahe was to order the appetizer and the drink from the bar and with zero seating hold and drink and ear? Sounds interesting.
Who orders a dinner buffet on a bar audit? SMH
I had a bar audit to do yesterday. It took an hour to get a bar stool. I wasn’t going to go next door to another place to get food.
I have had crowded bars in my history too. Just tell the host you are waiting to sit in or at the bar. Eventually someone will leave and the next time you do that shop you will be more cognizant of the crowded times at that particular establishment. I learned my lesson about not doing a bar shop at a "sports bar" when there is a big game on. And at a bar with a healthy after work crowd come the earliest the job allows. And yes it is possible to balance a plate of food without a table especially if you have waited a long time for a seat and have already finished your drink.
I think it's a comfort thing that comes with spending time in bars. You order food and stalk a seat or table, hoping to grab one before the food arrives. Order finger foods if you want to play it safe!

I had a hotel assignment recently with a similar requirement and was shocked to find the bar packed when we arrived at 7:30. Luckily the bar had a fireplace at one end so we sat on the hearth. The server even brought us a small table along with the food when she delivered it...

There were plenty of open tables in the attached restaurant, but some people prefer the ambiance of a bar when drinking. They didn't question it at all.
I always try and go early as happy hour starts around 4ish here and drinks are inexpensive...never a problem getting a good seat. When at the buffet, how do you evaluate the bartender...just asking as that is the point of a bar audit.....

Live consciously....
Gotta agree. If you're assigned a bar audit, you sit AT the bar, unless they want you to evaluate the lounge and then you sit at the lounge. I, too, have shown up at the venue, hoping to nab a seat, preferably two, for my guest and me, only to find it five deep with a multitude of orthodontists. You just gotta suck it up and wait for a seat or conduct the audit standing up, or try and reschedule if that works for you and MSC, and you can reach said MSC.

If you are at the hotel and it's out of town, that can be an issue, though.

Was on a hotel assignment recently that was thankfully local (West Hollywood). When I went to evaluate the lounge on the second night it was booked out for an event; 'tranny bingo'. My guest offered me heels and dress in case I wanted to join in and do the bar evaluation on my own, but I opted to inform the MSC an offer to come back the next night for the bar.

That said, if I was shopping a hotel outside of LA, the need to dress in drag to fit in at the bar might not come up as much smiling smiley

Absolutely. Was in your neck of the woods and had to grit my teeth and wade through the orthodontists, with my guest, and wait for a seat. I've come to the conclusion that I don't like "convention" hotels.

Frankly, I'd rather be there for tranny BINGO than have to deal with guys hitting on me. LGBT crowd is pretty fun and non-judgy. Plus, not to stereotype too much, but you will get hammered at any gay bar, since it is normal to pour HEAVY.

I had to tell the guy at the bar on Friday that I was an accountant. That is always a turn-off. Can't wait to tell my CPA that story on Thursday.

"Grit my teeth" - well at least plenty of professionals available to deal with the aftermath of teeth gritting smiling smiley
Oh I am sure PG knew he was being very punny.
very punny.[/quote]

That's a good one!
