Marketforce, I am a new shopper

and I feel like they intentionally set traps in their guidelines and on their reporting form, to make you fail. I have completed around 40 shops for them since I started several months ago. Every time, it seems, that I turn in a shop with good fees, but you have to spend $11 dollars or more for reimbursement, the shops are deemed invalid. yikes!
I just found out today, that while the shop guidelines may say they are complete and this is what you are to order-on the CPI it adds in something else to purchase. I thought the CPI was the paperwork you sign AFTER the shop. I did not know you were supposed to read it before the shop. Since there was no where to find out the steps to reading their paperwork - until you make an error that costs you money- you lose money while you learn. I like this company, they pay well and timely, the schedulars are pleasant and helpful; when you know what to ask them..
Does anyone who works with Marketforce have any tips for me please. This was the first company I started doing shops for and I am working for other companies. I have had no issues with the other companies in reporting or payment. So, far, I have lost $35. in shop fees and about the same in reimbursements. Plus, I feel like a moron.

Can you provide a specific example with what was required in the cpi and shop instructions availale to you before performing the shop?
I suspect Blue Skye is probably referring to the hamburger shop with possible milkshake option. If it is, the guidelines do state to check the CPI to see if a milkshake is a requirement with your shop, also you can tell by the reimbursement amount, which I guess might not be so obvious to a new shopper.

Vstone - you could be right. The OP needs to give us enough details. I always look at the cpi beforehand.
Reading the guidelines and CPI is one of MF better features. I am sorry this happened to you. MF is one also of the better companies. Carry you CPI/guidelines in your car and look over them before performing the assignment, sometimes you can miss things. That last refresher can open your eyes/senses to something you might have missed.
Most recent was one for a restaurant, on the guidelines and instruction pages, in dark bold print, you were told exactly what to order to complete the shop. They are very specific, including sizes and toppings allowed, etc. In the a black box on the same page was exactly what you were to order to do a valid shop. After I followed those instructions, completed the shop and turned it in . It was invalidated, because I did not order a milkshake. I sent a message asking for a please explain. After I sent three messages to various schedulers, one of them finally sent me an attachment of the CPI. Explaining that I am to read the CPI along with the guidelines and assignment details before a do a shop. Wish I had known that prior to. As I said, I like this company, but they, so far, are the only one of three with tricky paperwork. Just asking if there are any tips out there to help me do better.
Thanks, as I said I was just expecting the obvious, directions on guidelines to be the directions. I overlooked or just did not see why they would have other things to do on the CPI. But, now I think I know, so they do not have to keep upgrading and reprinting the shop quidelines maybe.
I will, but tell me, what does the acronym CPI stand for? Also, I do take my paperwork with me on a clipboard in the car so I can write on it as soon as I leave shop. I was a traveling salesperson, 35 years for a fortune 500 company before I retired. Which is why this makes me feel like a Moron. Thank you!
Also on the CPI is the fee that they are going to pay you. You do want to know......that. If the fee ever changed it would be on the CPI only. Do read it.smiling smiley
But in the guidelines it says "Check the CPI to see if a milkshake is required," I am sorry to be insensitive, but...you didn't do that. It sucks to have a shop rejected but many companies have an "location note" or "sticky note" of things that might be different for this location or shop, for this one some details were on the CPI. Don't trust that you know the guidelines well enough to do it from memory, read them every time. I have only been shopping for less than a year, but I have read this forum enough to know that you have to read all the guidelines again each time you perform a shop, or you run the risk of things changing and not getting paid.
CPI = Contractor Payment Invoice.

And it is clearly written on all the guidelines I have read: Check CPI to see if a Milkshake Purchase is required. And I believe that is in a least two places in the Guidelines, but I could be wrong. However, I know it is written in the box you referenced. Even says there you must get it in addition to the required Drink.

I have been doing this four years, and I still always read the guidelines/CPI/Survey and any Sticky Notes or Location Specific Sections from start to finish, even if it is my 100 of the particular type of shop, so that is my advice. Always read, every word of the guidelines/CPI/Survey/Sticky Notes, etc!

Even though i have done a shop many times before, i still read the cpi/shop instructions to see if anything changed. This is true for any MSC that i work with.
Yup. There have been times in the past where I thought I knew a shop guidelines by heart and assumed nothing had changed (not with Marketforce but with other companies) and I screwed up by not rechecking the guidelines. I was not paid for my mistakes.

I think not understanding that you need to read the CPI AND the guidelines before doing a shop is probably your biggest problem. The guidelines are complete, but the guidelines (depending on the client you are shopping) may be generic because there are specific instructions, like time of day to perform the shop or particular assigned department to shop or specific assigned menu item. For example, a Chinese fast food shop has excellent and very complete guidelines, but there are several different day periods that are shopped and you must read the CPI to see what time of day has been assigned to you.

There is actually a place to find out the steps to reading their paperwork .... and many other hints and necessities. Log in and go to Help and read the Frequently Asked Questions. They have a number of "How To" articles to help new shoppers understand how to assign, prepare for, complete, and report their shops. The specific one you should read is How To: Get Paperwork. Another helpful one is called Getting Shop Guidelines and Questions. My tip is that you go through all their training information.

Good luck.
thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I did not know what the CPI was and thought it was for closing. No, on my quide lines, it did not include a milkshake in the final directive box. Live and learn. Fortunately, this is not necessary to my living, just something to do in my retirement. I am used to being very, very busy.
Have a good evening, appreciate the info.
Just so you know, the times to do the shops is posted on the assignment page, you do not have to read the CPI, and once again, what does the acronym CPI stand for? I actually read all of the Marketforce answers to questions, when I started, so I am sorry somehow I missed or skipped over the instructions on how to use the CPI, anyway, everyone has been very helpful with their tips and explanations. I really appreciate it.
I read the guidelines with each and every shop. From start to finish, even if they LOOK the same as before. Somehow, I just missed this CPI thing. Thanks to everyone for replying.
Lady Marius,
Thank you so much. Best information received from this chat and you told me what the acronym CPI stands for for, so simple. Continued Good Fortune.
Blue Skye, you really need to log into Market Force and look over the training. Market Force does not allow an unlimited number of mistakes before they deactivate you.

At the top of each CPI, it says "MARKET FORCE INFORMATION CONTRACTOR PAYMENT INVOICE (CPI)."
roflwofl. Thank you for your help. If they deactivate me, I'll live with it. I am shopping for several companies now.
Second to none, inteliShop, Bare International, Sinclair and just started working on my certifications with Mystery Shoppers Association. I really appreciate all the input from everyone. Thank you.
Such good information, thank you roflwoft. I started this by accident, I was looking for something to do that would be fun and at least pay for it self and a few extras. So, I just fell in, with no input or help from anyone.
So all of this information everyone has shared is excellent.
Also, another thing I found very helpful on the CPI are the "Landmarks" for the location. There are times when Google's GPS takes me somewhere other than the location. So, when I see on the CPI that the location is across the street from Mark's brewery and next to Texas Roadhouse (ok, that's just my take-out dream!) and I see that gas station down the street I know there is something funky with the address.
I lost two shops because I put done the wrong time and QA said that it was overlapping times. Nothing you can do except go to the next shop and do as instructed. MF if you watch sometimes WILL give additional money to do shoppes. This is what you have to look for to make it work. Good Luck and make a Million.

I believe she noted ONE mistake.
OP said they lost $35 in shop FEES and about the same in reimbursements. That's definitely sounds like more than one mistake.

Always read EVERYTHING and understand it. I never print out anything, I take notes and then review the notes before I do the shop. I also read the questions beforehand and make note of what I need to remember.
2 different shops, one in the beginning and the latest this week. Between the 2 errors, I have done 35 shops for Marketforce all approved. Everyone's info about the CP
I and how to look up new shoppers training has been an enormous help.
Thank you all .
