Accepting Maritz shops

I'm new to this company. I found it unusual that after selecting the shops I want to do, I'm not assigned them. I apparently have to get a call from my scheduler and play phone tag with him to accept them. Is this just for the first shop or is it always going to be like this? If I can never self-assign or even see the details of a shop, I don't think this MSC is for me.

The problem is that you can't self-assign and everyone else can. New shoppers have to do a certain number of shops successfully - for me it was 10 - before they are allowed to self-assign. What's happening is that after you apply, other shoppers self assign the shops and get them before the scheduler gets around to calling you. I suggest that when you get a scheduler on the phone you take as many of their shops, even the crappy ones, that you can in order to get through your first 10. Then you will be able to self assign and the problem is solved.
They like to talk to you before your first few shops. I don't know how many, but after a certain amount they will give you self-assign privileges.

I did my first shop for them yesterday after having a phone call with the scheduler last week. I got on their job site today and was able to self-assign three jobs, so maybe it's only the first one they need to speak to you first?
Thanks all. I called the scheduler and got my first shops lined up. How much luck do you have in bidding a little more for a bundle than their stated offers? Their fees are few few bucks less than other MSCs, so wondering if I could ask for a little more. I accepted the base rate for my first shops, obviously.
You will also find that they are going to be more likely to work with you next week, once we are in a new month. They are trying to clear out this month's shops right now and may not want to work with a new person if they can help it. I had the same experience when starting with Maritz two years ago, but they are now a favorite company.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I called about the bank shops and asked why I couldn't just assign them to myself and I was told that their system handles when it allows shoppers to self assign. There's nothing the schedulers can do. I had already done 3 through KSS and 1 through their actual site. Then amazingly the next day I was able to self assign and assigned 5 shops to myself then. Maybe all it takes is a phone call.
With the new board it is not hard to get incentives. Just make sure you add the the amount of calculated pay to your incentive amount. It might take them a week sometimes to get an answer.

Well, I have been working for them for nearly 20 years. I asked for $2 each extra on three shops (not even sure why I bothered?). They took the time to call me back and counter with $1 each. A phone call and a supervisor for a difference of $3?! Honestly, I said, "No thanks, bye," and hung up without waiting for a response. I'm too busy for that crap.
That's been my experience. I've had little luck in getting bonuses of more than $5, even when they are "desperate." Usually, I get "desperate" calls asking me to do a shop at the asking price, the price that was posted all month and got no takers, or maybe a small bonus. I've had more than one Maritz scheduler tell me "most of our shoppers will do it just to help us out" so I'm guessing that must be part of the approved script. I usually just say okay and hang up, but I really want to respond "Most of your shoppes will do it just to help you out, so you are calling me .... why?" I like them overall and I work for them when it suits my purpose. I rarely take their phone calls.
I am thinking they have taken all authority from the schedulers. They call and call and call and call,,, need help need help need help need help... (sometimes while one scheduler has me on the line another one will beep through.) When I say, "That location is three hours from my home"... look on the board, and come up with a reasonable route bundle and fee, that scheduler gets to "ask the supervisor." It is like getting chased around by used car salesmen who have to have everything approved by that unseen manager in the corner office. Why have these people calling and calling and calling without giving them some authority? I get that there are budgets, and if you told everyone to accept anything it would blow those budgets. On the same note, it's gotta be frustrating to be expected to call someone and offer a shop with a six-hour drive without a pre-approved bonus to offer.

I have always enjoyed working with Maritz... They are one of just a few MSC's whose calls I will answer if at all humanly possible...
